If I gave a verbal commitment for a job but I couldn't sign my employment contract for 1.5 years i would still be listening to other offers, everyone would, it would idiotic not to. Situations and circumstances change and I won't ever fault.
Don't disagree with anything you just said. But you wouldn't be posting it online if you were 100% committed the entire time. Only reason to would be for additional leverage or stupidity.

not after you’ve verbally given your acceptance to their offer. If I was on social media hyping other offers after just committing to an employer even if not signed, they would probably drop me or you as they should.

I would agree with you in the interview process without an offer or committing to one.

It’s not a big deal but there’s a reason a minute later he has to come out and say he’s 100% committed to nd.
Not if I were being heavily recruited by the company and I was in the power position.

he is a high school kid excited about earning an offer to college. i think he has earned the right to be excited. i would be if i got a full ride. This is a high school sophomore...i understand the game has changed with NIL, but he is still a kid

If you’re doing any sort of campus recruiting for prominent jobs you’re trying to get kids committed 1+ years out. Tons of times we’ve lost kids after 6 months of them being committed. Is what it is.

It's not necessarily about keeping other options open. It makes fans nervous and feeds the ON3 rumor machine (like with Adon Shuler posting an Ohio State offer post ND verbal). It can be pride. It can be kids that actually follow where they are ranked by the services or want in invite to post senior season all-star games.

One of the truest statements Tom Lemming ever made, when he was still relevant, was that players who verbal early tend to drop in rankings. Especially with ND commits.

I don't know if it was Geno or any coach but somebody probably made him aware that even the most innocent social media post can have a lot of yeast put in it.

This far out--ND probably has more leverage right now in the relationship

They most likely propositioned him and Hart with a first in gets it

Don't get it twisted, if he falls off--ND will move off him

With that said I would highly doubt ND overtly told him to make the follow-up tweet, probably just himself or his parents/advisors realized after the fact it may not have been the best look if he wants to purport as the Pied Piper of 2026

Would be surprised if he does it again

Stupid decision

I think this is a “fool me once” situation.

Gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and says he’s a young kid that didn’t know what he was doing. You say “stupid decision,” I say “excitable high schooler that doesn’t realize how important his words are to grown men now.”

We’ve had committed prospects that continued to announce their offers in the past. I don’t have a study on which ones did and stuck, and which ones flamed out, but it’s not totally unforgivable until he gives us other reasons to worry.

Assuming it’s a leverage play or pure stupidity is a big jump for a first offense, imo

I don’t think he’s stupid. Just that he made a dumb decision, not a big deal, probably won’t do it again

I agree. My son is a pretty good athlete and offers are starting to roll in (not football) and he is pumped about each offer. Each offer is a validation of all his hard work and is a massive compliment. He is excited about each offer. He already knows where he is going and the new offers don't change that, but he is excited they liked him enough to offer, nontheless, and each is a big deal in its own right.

As a scout, how do you feel about Grandma's play? Does she have loose hips?, Good ball skills?
Hips are tighter than a guitar string. Ball skills are awful but she is 5 star at always having tissues and loose butterscotch candies in her winter sideline jacket because as you know, it could be 90 degrees out and all old women are always freezing cold.

His interview with Eric Thomas doesn’t sit well and I wouldn’t be shocked the staff is recruiting QBs again for 2026
