They can maybe toward local kids. A Nebraska football player with a degree will have many doors open for them if they stick around after school.

They should absolutely be working that, their pool will just be much smaller.

Advantage: Catholics.

I'm not sure this will be true everywhere though. If I could walk on at Notre Dame and get access to all the amenities and training and NIL and strange and what not, graduate in 3 years and either rise up or be in the cat bird seat to transfer to lower level school with a couple years of eligibility to prove myself that's incredibly valuable. It's a different kind of business decision and for the kind of kid that might thrive at Notre Dame anyway a special track to success. FSU and Nebraska can't offer that same incentive. Their sales pitch of gonorrhea and corn just doesn't hit like it used to.
The point was the days of the talented guys stacking up at programs like those years ago are long gone. FSU and Nebraska are nowhere near what they were prior to this new millennium. Their success back in those days was due in part to them being able to collect a lot of talent that could have been on two deeps if not starting in a lot of other places. Those days are clearly over.

I agree with you. I was just trying to add I think this new era uniquely favors Notre Dame. Just need to take advantage before the next era, whatever the fuck that looks like begins.

It's hard to say who it favors right now. I hope you're right, but I don't know that I see that yet. Notre Dame is going to maintain certain standards. They're paying for coaches and that's good. They've landed good QBs in The Portal.

I still think right now UGA is the big game in town and with Saban gone that likely continues.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think his point is that those (most, not all) that select Notre Dame are looking long term and aren't likely to move around. By doing that, it allows them more continuity in development, build longer relationships with coaches and teammates and in general a "team" mindset.

I know how he feels… When Mike left the Bulls for good, the Bulls & the NBA just seemed pointless.
Sure but if in ‘99 you started whining to a group of Knicks fans about it, they would have rightfully called you out for being a hypocritical bitch. Just as any Bama fan on a ND board should be treated (with all due respect to TTT and Bishop).

I'm trying to find some sympathy for you TTT, but I must have replaced it. ;)

Bama will be just fine.

We'll be fine, but it's going to be a long road back to being mere mortals again. Saban spoiled us.

Not so much about Saban retiring really. I guess I am more of a traditionalist and don’t care for realignment and/or NIL. Don’t blame the players or the schools though. The sport evolves much like everything else…

Hearing the next thing to fall is the three year rule before going pro. Not that I am necessarily opposed to a player having the right to decide, but much like NIL, it has the potential to see a lot of players wash out.

As in, players can go in before 3 years are up?

More are staying longer because of NIL though
