I'm having trouble finding numbers that go back further (google gets worse every year) but here's what I can find in a CBS article which has a chart going back to 2014:

201444,603-1,068
201543,933-670
201643,612-321
201742,203-1,409
201841,856-347
201941,477-379
202139,848*-1,629
202241,840+1,992
202341, 867^+27

EDIT: I see google's generative AI is telling me that in 2008 it was 46,971 per game
If you are talking about adding in OOH viewership to the metrics, the huge growth in CFB ratings have occurred after that change. The fact is the viewership is rapidly accelerating and is likely to increase again next year.

...and eliminating scholarship caps - so that means that schools can stockpile again.

I am not talking about the 5 stars...more the 3 stars that would normally go to the G5.
I think they'll still go to where they can play. Or they'll transfer there after a year or two. But it would still pay dividends for the big school to bring some of those project guys in for a year and see if they got it

What percentage of talented kids are ready for the college game? I am all in if a freshman or sophomore is outplaying an upperclassman and they get the starting nod, but I also think sitting a kid for a year or 2 to learn the system they are in isn't a bad thing either.

I like what ND is selling to recruits and what they continue to sell their athletes to stay. ND has been successful in the portal, but when these kids transfer multiple times going from school-school-school I don't think it is good for the game.

Will Jaden Rashada stay at Georgia for the rest of his college career?

Depends so much on the position. Skill players are a lot more likely to be physically ready to compete early. Linemen (both sides), less so. And I never want us starting a true freshman quarterback no matter how talented he is. Last time we did that we went 3-9.
But, to your point, the smart kids who are playing the long game will realize they are better off developing for a year or two at least than jumping to chase playing time.
And I think Notre Dame is savvy enough to recruit them with that message in mind. Come here for three years at least, develop as a football player, get your degree. If you don't see the field enough and want to go somewhere you will, you'll still have two or three years of eligibility at that point, and you'll be a grown-ass man.

Tabasco Field at Tiger Stadium sounds nice. Helmets and jerseys are next. Wait till Eli Lilly slaps a big logo on ND’s iconic helmet and jerseys. But hey, at least these players get theirs now (in addition to a plethora of other benefits…).

I just love our new era of NCAA football….

Adults continue to make poor decisions regarding college sports, players continue to get blamed. Always amazed how decision makers are able to deflect their poor decisions on others. Politicians are world class at this.

Minor league football has always failed and gone bankrupt before. Why try to take a money maker/fan favorite and turn it into minor league football again?

Coaches will surely be making big proclamations about how this is the end of CFB because they care so much the sanctity of the sport. Right? They’ll be held to account by reporters who bemoaned that NIL would ruin the sport because Jaden Rashada could earn money.

This does way more harm to the traditions of the sport than Joe at Wiscy getting $40k.

ND might sell some advertising on the jersey, but I doubt they would ever put anything on the helmet.

Things are changing too fast for me to even formulate a real opinion
This is such a valid point when you consider that despite it so many people are formulating them anyway and most of them are clouded in doom.

They could, but the days of talented kids sitting and waiting their turn are long gone.
Right. Osbourne Nebraska and Bowden FSU benefited from this kind of thing for a long time. I don't see it has being a problem in today's landscape. Nobody wants to wait anymore. Even the three star G5 type of prospects. They want to play.

How close are we to having Corporate naming rights to College stadiums or fields?

I'm not sure this will be true everywhere though. If I could walk on at Notre Dame and get access to all the amenities and training and NIL and strange and what not, graduate in 3 years and either rise up or be in the cat bird seat to transfer to lower level school with a couple years of eligibility to prove myself that's incredibly valuable. It's a different kind of business decision and for the kind of kid that might thrive at Notre Dame anyway a special track to success. FSU and Nebraska can't offer that same incentive. Their sales pitch of gonorrhea and corn just doesn't hit like it used to.

They can maybe toward local kids. A Nebraska football player with a degree will have many doors open for them if they stick around after school.
