It'll be interesting to see. Not sure what the situation was with his transfer back home last year--homesickness?

Just with the way things go nowadays with the portal/NIL and early returns on Carr looking very promising and fact Carr will have a year's head start on him, I'm just not placing a lot of expectations on this situation

Probably going to be tough for schools to stockpile and retain elite qb prospects on their rosters on a year over year basis. An every/other year gap seems like it will be more realistic. But doesn't mean teams shouldn't still try I guess

Would be nice if Knight and Grubb/Hart were flip flopped in order
I know this is an instant quatification society, but I think Carr being leaps and bounds ahead is a good thing. We all know, and I'm betting Duece knows he needs some development. If Carr is what we think he is, he plays mop up duty some this year, starts the next two years and is gone. That means Duece has two years to develop and be the guy as a redshirt sophmore. To me, that's a good recipe for success.

But I get, expecting kids to sit and develop for two years in this day in age might be tough.

Deuce can play in packages and mop up duty to get him some reps and hold his interest. I agree this is the perfect script.

I’d understand if grades were an issue but he supposably has a 4.0 - or did.

Hope ND holds on to him because I think his potential is unreal, but I’ve never had a great feeling about this commitment.

Just wait until the Ivies get wind of this…

Yale’s gonna be all over it. They only need one Matty to catch Princeton at 28.

In all seriousness, Princeton and Yale claim 55 Natty’s. Add 22 more for the rest of the Ivy.

I’m not saying he flips, but this does have all the ingredients for a late cycle flip. Only the staff really knows, but I suspect taking Grubbs will have Knight thinking twice — and I wouldn’t blame him, he is a developmental prospect at a program that is quickly becoming less friendly to waiting.

Totally agree with this. Love how the staff is bringing in a top qb every class and a transfer. Know Knight loves ND and may end up starting sometime. But qb recruiting has gone up significantly of late. May the best qb win. Really liked Grubbs' film and CJ hasn't even played a real down yet. Good times.

I suppose, but it's not like Ole Miss (and especially Bama) won't go after a high-level QB recruit in every class and work the portal to bring in guys above Deuce once he's there. Deuce must know this. Now, Ole Miss' '24 QB doesn't look like much, so maybe they can sell him an easier path to the field than he'd have behind CJ. But that's been the case for awhile now.

Depth chart aside, I've always felt like the bigger risk here is distance/culture. It's a long way from Lucedale, Miss. to South Bend, and I'd think there's a lot of Ole Miss people in his universe. Which is why it's good he's spending so much time at ND and around ND people. He needs to feel confident it's the place for him.

Grubbs isn't the level of a prospect ceiling wise as Knight. Knight should not be afraid

With instant free agency, I don't think guys get as worked up about rosters these days. I think more kids are going where they want to (NIL reasons included) knowing they can leave for a better NIL pkg the second they aren't feeling it without the quitter/loser stigma.

I look at this from the other end. Deuce is going up against multiple guys who are better QB's right now. The odds of him being the man at ND (without injury's ahead of him) are low because CJ's got a head start on him.

When I say Deuce could be the next Arnez Battle or Donovan McCully from IU... I'm not kidding.

Well yeah there's that too. He can come to ND for a year or two, try it out/develop, and if he figures he's not going to start he go somewhere else, maybe even Ole Miss.

That may be true, but Grubbs is a better player right now, as a rising junior — so his ceiling is plenty high. The low floor/high ceiling prospects at QB are no longer a risk ND has to take — the transfer portal has taken care of that problem. I don’t want to hate on the kid, I just don’t see much of a future for him at ND.

It would foolish to think all three of Carr, Knight, and Grubbs will stay at Notre Dame for 3-5 years. Hell, there’s probably a chance that 2 of them end up leaving through the portal.

How the staff is handling the QB position is how it should be done. Bring in as much talent as possible and let the best man win. The every other year bullshit that Kelly and Rees did clearly didn’t work.

Exactly. My main pt is that if I am Deuce, more concerned about Carr than Grubbs

And when it DID work out for BK... he couldn't get 2-3 years out of Kiel, Wimbush, 5*Phil or TBuch.

Kelly and Rees problem is they had major issues at going after guys they should have way earlier. McCarthy should have been at ND and they dropped the ball big time
