Here’s hoping they reasonably trade up with the Giants to snag Alt.
I don't like the idea of trading up unless the prices is miniscule or it's just one of the extra picks in the 2025 draft. And this may be blasphemy on an ND board but gimme one of the blue chip receivers so Caleb has a stacked receiver corps. That or shoring up the interior with a guy like Fuaga out of Oregon State would be so amazing. And there's also the super tenacious DT Byron Murphy from Texas...

The best available at #9 should be quite juicy - if none of the top 3 WR are available it will mean they can have either Alt, Verse or Murphy. Sounds like a decent chance some QB lurkers might want to trade up for McCarthy or Penix. If the Bears want to bolster offense and don't see tackle as a need I could see that prompting a trade back.

Probably depends on how they rate that second wave of WR - they need some depth at WR and would be a shame not to try and develop someone around Allen and Moore.

Probably also depends on how high they value a guy like Verse. Despite the need to surround CW with talent, they also need to bolster their pass rush. Sweat is good, but him alone isn't enough.

A good amount of the NFL media thinks that this might be the second time that the NFL draft starts with 7 offensive players (the first being the 2021 Draft) and might even start with 8. The positional value of the players and the needs of these teams align that the Bears really might see 4 QBs (including their own), 3 WRs, and 1 OL go in the first 8 picks. This could lead to getting the first defender in the draft. Poles by all accounts has been methodical in going through all the possible players that people grade as top 10 to top 25 prospects. He might have quite the options for #9 even if none of them are Marv, Alt, Odunze, or Nabers.

I must be wrong cuz everyone says Bears are going WR and most fans seem to lean that way too but I keep asking myself… what do they need, another WR or a healthy franchise QB the are betting on for the next 4 seasons.

I’ll take the latter and give up something down the line to get the safest prospect in the draft.

Joe Alt has the highest Pro Bowl / HOF potential of them all and I’d say the same thing had he played for MI, the U or SC.

QB, WR, EDGE, OT

I don't think you trade up to get Joe Alt or any other tackle, but maybe Ryan Poles feels otherwise. Keenan Allen is 31 and DJ Moore is 27. Not exactly spring chicken ages for the NFL.

If any one of those three WR are there, you take him.

I do think Alt is the best player in the draft (setting aside positiional value). However, I don't expect the Bears to get a chance to take him at #9 and I wouldn't actually trade up to get him because there will certainly be good value that does reach Chicago there.

I think someone is going to reach on McCarthy between 2-8. Alt may very well be there at 9 for all we know. Even if he is, get the WR who is there and use that pick unless someone offers some kind of stupid bounty. It's a good WR and OT draft. Edge not so much. Give Caleb one more weapon at WR and make it a long term guy he can go with.

He says all the right things in this Podcast. Wants to go somewhere that loves ball and Chicago is that. Wants to win Super Bowls ("I'm ready to chase number 12.") Wants to meet or exceed Stroud's rookie season. Focused on winning, focused on teammates, doesn't like to lose. What they need to coach him to do is not play hero ball like he did last year. Stay within himself and take what the defense gives you. Let the game come to you.

I didn't realize that he's been football nurtured from the time he was in youth football. Had nutritionists, QB coaches, etc. The majority of his life has been in preparation for this moment.

That podcast is worth a watch/listen.

Gonna keep it downtown since 80% of Bear fans now live in Indiana.

That’s crazy. At least 10% must live in SoCal and another 5 live in Arizona. The diaspora is strong

There's 10x more Bear fans in the Valley and Tucson than SoCal. I found one Bears bar in OC/SD, the 710 Beach Club in Pacific Beach.

Can't find a good pizza, beef, hot dog and worst of all... their tamales don't come in plastic wrapper. 2 years there and it's a wonder I didn't starve to death.

My bro lives in SD. A suffering Bears fan.

Nah... Chicago folk move to Scottsdale, N. PHX, Arcadia, Ahwatukee and now Chandler.

We don't do the westside in numbers... just folks who sold their trailer in Des Plaines at the height of the mobile home market.

I do not understand why you willingly pass up building a Bears palace with ~330 acres in Arlington Heights...

Bears fan in Bermuda here. One of the security guards at the hospital where I work is also a Bears fan. We talk about the draft at least once a week (very circular, like the above conversation).
