How in the world do your pipes not freeze there?
They do freeze up on occasion. Usually run a slow flow. Not a good time to be a firefighter! Typically, a lot of structure fires due to portable electric and propane heaters.

On another front, one of our left-leaning media outlets had a segment on electric vehicles with interviews from owners virtually stranded at charging stations. It went as you might expect. Not very many happy customers. We just aren't ready!

Cheers and Go Irish!!

I’m a builder in the twin cities. No water lines on exterior walls, shutoffs for exterior spigots and upgrade insulation everywhere!!

That makes a lot of sense. Something we take for granted here in the mid Atlantic.

We're looking at 1, -3, and -1 then next three days.
Luckily it's not the -25, or worse, others are talking about.

On another note, when we reach the teens later in the week it's going to feel like the 30's.

I was a volunteer Firefighter, and my foster dad was the fire Marshal... (Not Bill....) 7 counties in Ohio, along the Ohio river.

We all loved this time of year. Firefighters want to fight fire. We all had hard times when there were victims, and I was lucky enough to deal with that minimally.

Yeah. I was a firefighter for about 18 months in the early '90's. The few calls I attended with regard to portable heaters were typically impoverished people just trying to stay warm. If the smoke and fire didn't get them it was usually carbon monoxide poisoning from faulty unit heaters and improper ventilation. I think people are largely unaware of the real dangers.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

She's a cold one!! -42F today with a windchill of -70F!

I think this is the coldest I remember.

Stay warm and stay safe!

Cheers and Go Irish!!

I live in the Twin Cities, people tell me its cold here and they could never live here. I don't think its really that cold. Alberta/Manitoba/Saskatchewan ... those places get downright chilly.

We are only about -3 right now. The wind isn't too bad, so I got a couple nice walks in. -42 though, those are SHORT walks at best. That's legit cold.

Yeah, once you live here, you get it. It's all about being ready for it. Irishdawg nailed it. We are ready for cold or heat.

Remember when ERCOT down in Texas had to stop the windmills? Not here baby, ours can run below -20. Newer ones even lower.

I'm in the St Paul suburbs. I love the cold, I'm also a cold weather gear junkie, so I test it out. -4 this AM, not sure about windchill at the moment.

Yeah, I can't say I prefer hot or cold. I like them both, but like you...I have got the gear for it.

Last year, in January, I took a bunch of Boy Scouts to Okpik (Northern Tier Scout camp, just north of Ely). We slept outside both nights and woke up to -30. They provided the gear, so it was easy to be ready...the boots were the one thing I didn't have that they provided. Most of my personal gear was too warm for that camp, since you want to avoid sweating when you camp outside in the cold (and I like to be WARM when I am out in the cold).

Applied a warning to Circa for creating an unnecessary stray from what should be a positive thread.

But honestly those of you who chose to engage in him by insulting are not helping. No need to make those comments. Just ignore or report the posts and move on.

What the hell we can’t create unnecessary strays nor can we threaten to rape people? SMH this forum isn’t how I remember it.

My college house was old and my room didn't have a vent connected to the heater. So I used an electric space heater. My room would vary between 30 degrees and 90 degrees lol
