Fr ND defense has been significantly better than I expected this year, especially before they were gassed in 2nd halves of Duke and Louisville.
Shouldn't have as gassed at Duke, but with all the frickin' TO's against Louisville it definitely makes sense ... little to no time to catch a breather!

Has he been demoted yet? Or is West Virginia football smarter than ND football?

They said something about how the admin won’t pay two OC’s. I assume Parker has a contract?

There's so many long 3-4 minute tv timeouts now in the game, no one should be gassed. The number of plays are down, the amount of rest is up.

I saw an article recently where the commercial breaks got studied... there aren't more of them this year than in the past few years, and they aren't longer. They're definitely the same for each conference from 2022 to 2023.

The new clock rules ARE decreasing the number of plays, though, which makes it seam like there are more breaks, when really the breaks happen in the same number, and are the same length... there's just a greater chance that the breaks get bunched closer together because of the new clock rules.

It's not as noticeable depending on the conference, because some have shorter breaks than others, and others allow "bumper" commercials, which seems like game coverage comes back sooner, where some don't allow as much bumper coverage, making actual commercials seems longer, when in reality it's all non-game airtime that is paid for, just by different parties.

hmmm, don't have time to dig into it but i saw a study where the games are taking the same amount of time, despite over 10% less plays. So there has to be more down time if that's true.

The Ludwig and Klein ships have sailed. I don't know what Freeman will do at the end of the year, but I'd be very curious as to what his short list might look like. Hopefully there is a plan regardless.

I won't even begin to spitball because it's October and it doesn't matter, but it's still Notre Dame and the OC job should be desirable to someone.

I realize it's just speculation but if true, it is exhibit 1,000,069 in the case against the ND admin for being bush league.

Who gives a shit about paying 2 OCs? You have a billion dollars.
ND is stingy. They'll squeeze the blood from a stone as far as donations go, but they're hesitant to drop money on the football program if it doesn't provide tangible returns like a stadium upgrade.

If the offense continues to suck, Driskell may need to re-evaluate his prediction.
It could cause Freeman to make a decision. He's going to have to be shrewd if things don't get better. The whole point of bringing Hartman in here was to show what the offense could be. They've regressed in many respects. The interior OL in particular seems to be the focal point of the mess.

I don't know what the answer is, but if he does make a change, he's going to need an experienced play caller. Whatever that may look like I don't know but consider Prime brought Sean Lewis to Colorado and it was applauded on several levels.

The football program has to be armed with a number of analytics people. There should be a standing directive that the ND analytics group is always monitoring the top performing coordinators at multiple levels, especially those punching above their weight class in terms of the production-talent delta. You never know when that information will be helpful, most of that could be static reports with some experimental M/L thrown on top to find talented people who the admin could afford to pay. I don't want to shoot too high here but I'm thinking:

  • PeeWee champion OCs
  • Fantasy baseball runner-ups on ESPN challenge
  • Guys who just missed a parlay on FanDuel

Total offense:

34. Notre Dame

35. Clemson
37. Ohio State
42. Florida State
44. Penn State
50. Colorado

This surely predicated mostly on the beginning of the schedule, but even after the last three games, this is shocking to me nevertheless.

You know who has good offenses? Wazzu and Oregon State. Their realignment fate still hangs in the balance. Could certainly put some feelers out there if you wanted.

Whats more alarming is the PPG of those teams, we're 35th in the nation in PPG. That is pathetic with our easy start. FSU is 42 ppg, PSU 40ppg and both are in the top 10. Clemson and colorado are right behind ND. We were 33rd PPG last year, and similar total offense. Who would have guessed our offense would be similar/worse than last year with sam hartman healthy.

Unreal

That is a little surprising. Of course no offensive stat is complete without…

Let's lower our big name expectations and interview some up and coming like the guy promoted at Tulane or Pete Carroll's son at AZ or for sure up and coming at sub-FBS schools. Maybe go after CW Jr. at Ole Miss? Would he leave Kiffen? Would he come to ND after the way his dad was booed out?

Do we know why Klein REALLY declined? Was it simply about staying home or was there more to it?

How the hell are you going to squeeze blood from a stone? That’s not how the saying goes. Plus I like “u can’t get blood from a turnip better”😉

If I remember correctly, I believe that the QB room said they did not connect with him and that ruled him out. He may have entered as choice 1, but did not leave it as choice 1...
