The QB class is so deep this year - Hartman is likely somewhere between the 10th and 15th best QB prospect - that I’d bet some good options will stay in school. JJ McCarthy?

He went 15-35 in the game against Utah, the offense scored 7 points, and the moment looked far too big for him on Saturday.
On the road against the #10 team in the country? What do you expect from a true freshman? These are growing pains, UCLA wasn't under any illusions about making the playoffs this season. He's still looked hella impressive so far IMO.

The comment was in response to another poster indicating Minchey and/or Angeli may not be ready next year, and Dante Moore was used as an example. He didn't look great on the road against a Top 25 team...and we open up at Texas A&M next year.

The logic doesn't work. Moore struggled thus far, just like most other freshman/first-time starters do.

They aren't really comparable. Not like people are suggesting Carr start at A&M.

I’m actually excited for the young LB’s Ausberry and his sped along with ASA we should have a huge upgrade at LB, DL should be better and we will have Grey and Morrison and Mickey at Corner Safety watts and Carter
yeah i like our LBs, i think ausberry will be real good and mike goolsby thinks ASA will be the starting MLB next season. the corners should be real good, will be curious to see how micah bell looks next year with all that speed, can ND please get micah bell on the return team next year seems like a shame to not have his speed on the field.. im not sure the DL will be better next year unless a few young guys surprise, their are just no different makers along the DL. i also think safety maybe a problem as well, havent been a big fan of watts and if he's the best ND has then that says a lot about the quality of depth.

You should have Watts, Henderson, Carter, at safety next year plus the freshman. I'd maybe look to bring in a guy for a depth piece

Bama wanted Hartman too ...
From a talent standpoint and Hartman in the last year of eligibility, Sam was basically guaranteed to start for us while at Bama I think the QB situation didn't look like a lock for him. Also, do we know when Bama reached out? Was it after he already made the move to ND and Rees was gone?

I hadn't heard about Bama for Hartman, but Florida believed he was theirs until ND swooped in. Florida's offer was substantial.

Just wait. People will. Bad idea.

(agree they're not really comparable, especially Angeli who will have spent, what, two and a half years in our program by the start of next season. But a first-time starter is still a first-time starter.)

Didn’t want to bring back up the Keon Keeley thread, and no, he’s not transferring to ND, but I saw an article about him that was interesting.
The Alabama site wrote an article talking about who should play more & he was talked about.
I looked for his stats & I can’t find any? Has he played at all?
His shoulder was healed over the summer, so he’s healthy.
The article mentioned Bama couldn’t generate a pass rush & he was needed, yet still not playing.

ND’s Defense & Bama’s are about the same.
ND has a better SOS, SOR & Game Control.
So ND has played better competition & faired better against it.
Yet Keeley can’t get on the field for Bama, & would be in the two deep at ND.

So we can expect Keeley to transfer to the good guys after the season. 😉 Got it!

But also he’s a freshman and there’s all sorts of potential adjustment issues?
Who knows, but the expectation that freshmen - however talented - should walk in and play meaningful minutes for good teams always trips me up a little. Yes, some are ready for it (Greathouse). But lots of others are not and that’s OK.

Especially when alabama gets his type of talent every year.

Peyton Bowen has 18 tackles and 4 pd's on the year. Would've been the perfect 3rd safety.

Meh, one PD was against Cincinnati, the others were against Tulsa and SMU. Cinci is the best offense they've faced and they're 2-3. He fucked up, I'm happy with the guys that chose ND.

I don’t think he should play meaningful minutes this year at Bama, but I don’t think he’s playing any minutes? That’s what’s weird. No stats at all.
And Bama isn’t Bama like we are used to. That’s why I mentioned our D is the same as theirs. And ND’s DL has two players (Cross #1 & Mills #6) graded out better this season than any of Bama’s.

Agree Bama isn’t Bama this year. But they still stack talent. And Saban, like anyone, plays his best players. Which a true freshman will not necessarily be.

Outside of garbage time how much have we played Vernon or Traore?

I'm finishing up listening to yesterday's ISD Power Hour and Mike Frank brought up a great point when talking about transfer WR's.

"Does ND look at this situation and say we're going to have to help Marcus Freeman out? He needs to get in some undergrad transfers. And don't tell me you can't. You're doing it for Basketball."

He's spot on. I know that outside of Brandon Joseph, ND has typically only brought in undergrads who were 1 year out of HS. ND Basketball has a transfer, Julian Roper, coming in from NW who is 2 years out of HS. So don't tell me that ND isn't able to do that for football as well. Is it because he goes to an elite academic institution? Can ND only do that for players who are at Stanford, NW, Vandy, and Duke? If so, then they should easily be able to convince David Bailey from Stanford to hit the portal and get him in to school. He's a true Sophomore. Riley Leonard is a true Junior but wasn't an EE, so he will likely need a spring semester to graduate. There should be no reason why ND shouldn't be able to convince him to hit the portal and get him in to school before spring ball, even if he doesn't have his degree.

Isn’t the reason they don’t want to do that is b/c they believe it “cheapens“ an ND degree? To which I’ve heard fans & alums say they don’t give a shit. Typical tone deaf ND

That might be why, but if so, it's stupid. NW, Stanford, Vandy, and Duke are elite academic institutions that are on par with Notre Dame. Stanford is a better school than ND. All 4 of those schools are rated in the top 20 of the U.S. News & World Report.

Stanford: #3 (Tie)
Duke: #7
NW: #9 (Tie)
Vandy: #18 (Tie)
ND: #20

But what's the point here? Are there really that many undergrad transfer candidates at these "smart" schools? It would be nice to open up the pool of TP candidates with a little help. Like I said before, it will take a lot for any undergrad to go through the academic friction (like they really want to be at ND for some reason); otherwise, with things moving so fast past end of year and then bowl season, they are gonna pass on ND and go where they are much more easily accepted (and fast!)

There's athletic standards to get into nd that are different than normal standards. That should apply for transfers as well. The sports teams should be able to build their teams to the same numbers how they seem fit and follow the athletic standards, not the normal transfer standards.

There's many ND Football players that are not as intelligent as some players on OSU, Michigan, Penn State, Georgia, Bama. Not all of our players are smarter than normal football players (a lot are), and not all power house football team players are idiots (a lot are).
