I think you need to bring in a transfer the schedules too easy next year to just rely on Angeli. A perfect guy would be Washington State QB Cameron award. Probally gonna be a couple decent QB’s who hit the portal
This qb class is stacked. Some have speculated NIL market could be crazy and enough to convince some to come back

They need another transfer quarterback next year.
Steve will still have two years of starter eligibility left and shouldn't transfer out unless he know for sure Minchey passed him by.

Hartman doesn’t somehow have another year of eligibility, does he? Wild but he’s probably not one of the top ten QBs in the draft.

So how does this work? Do we have dedicated support staff that focus solely on transfer portal stuff?

Or do they just wait for the portal to open & then everyone starts recruiting & offering money?
I believe they hired someone, can’t remember who it is, to specifically head up monitoring the portal for potential fits and where to send the gold bars.

I don't feel I've seen enough of Angeli to write him off yet.
He has a really slow release and will get eaten alive. Pocket presence isn't great either but that can get better. Average arm.

I'm curious what attributes people see in Angeli as reason to believe.

All you need to see is his slooooow release to know that they’re not winning any playoff games with him at the helm.

To be fair I am not sure we win one with Hartman. There was times last night he looked scared and he didn’t execute when we needed him too.

But he has this week to redeem himself although against a much less talented team.

Listening to ISD Hit and hustle they are talking about special teams. They brought up the spencer was on a team that won 9 games while he was there. I am gonna take their word.

But I wonder if the situation was to big for Spencer. Do we need to look at that more closely? Do they need to look at transfers and if they have played in big time situations?

They are throwing the red flags on the Spencer situation and the holder change.

I thought Minchey was an EE. Is he really another year away?
Minchey was an EE. I think he has substantially more upside than Angeli but no idea if he’ll be ready by next September. Let alone if they’ll know that by January when you’d need to go get a good portal QB.
So yeah maybe we just go get Pratt?

UCLA is starting Dante Moore (yes him) as a true freshman.

I have no idea how ND can't get talented redshirt players ready for the second year full year. It seems that ND makes it too hard for underclassman to perform on the field. Is it scheme? Is the playbook too complicated? By sophomore year (redshirt freshman year) talent should be coming through. ND's young linebackers are uber talented. By next year, the scheme needs to be clear to them...or it's just too complicated.

Do I want them to pin all of ND's hopes on Angeli and / or Minchey...helz no. But those guys should be ready.

QB is the toughest position in the game. Very few frosh play and play well. ND has 2 true frosh WRs getting good PT and a true frosh RB getting good PT.

With that said, no excuse to not have Minchey ready if he's clearly more talented than Angeli ( i think he is). With that said, i'm very confident Angeli is NOT it, so if the coaches don't think Minchey can beat out Angeli and be a darn good QB (Better than frosh Carr), they better go to the portal!

Moore is an elite talent and Minchey and Angeli aren’t.

I’m actually excited for the young LB’s Ausberry and his sped along with ASA we should have a huge upgrade at LB, DL should be better and we will have Grey and Morrison and Mickey at Corner Safety watts and Carter

My opinion but the reason Freeman/Golden are playing Marist/Betrand so much and then 3rd backer is Kiser despite none of them being great is they are very assignment correct (almost all of the time, except for hendersons TD run). This allows ND to play nickel and stop teams run with 6 in the box. We might not make the splash plays, TFL/Sacks we all want, but we also don't have very many run fit mistakes, especially against mobile QBs this year. We had 6 in the box all night and stopped henderson other than obviously 1 run, and a second that betrand missed a tackle on. Very very few teams in the country can do that (georgia, bama, UM). Yes we have really good corner play, but we had 2 safeties helping almost every play preventing teams like OSU from easily just taking 1-1 shots with their Elite WRs.

As much as I want the younger more talented guys to be on the field, with the D we are running, you have to be so darn good in your fits because we are only stopping the run with 6 players instead of 7. It makes it very difficult to throw on us, except for when we go soft quarters zone on 3rd and 18. :(

The best option is a player like Sneed/Ausberry becomes good enough with their athleticism to cover most slot WRs, and then teams don't know if that LB is in coverage or blitzing, or playing the run. Wu was phenomenal at this. I'm not sure Sneed has the instincts.

ND is pretty much like, yep, we have a 190lb nickel back out there, go ahead, try and run on us, when you don't, you'll be in 2nd and 3rd and long.

I wouldn't rule out Minchey. He was just outside the Top 150 and was in the Top 15 for his position group. Angeli was a lot farther down, like more than twice as many spots overall.
This is my take at this point. I think Angeli has a better command of the offense right now so he's #2. I think Minchey has all of the traits you want in a QB and he's hopefully absorbing as much as he can under Hartman. I wouldn't be surprised to see Minchey surge in the spring/summer.

So we need another Hartman that is good enough to put us over the top but not good enough to warrant high NFL draft grades.

Everyone wants Michael Pratt but I feel like there is going to be major competition for him this offseason. Does Grayson McCall have another year? Another senior I like that I doubt gets a 1st or 2nd round grade is KJ Jefferson.

You know that Alabama is going to get someone. Pratt could be one of their targets.

Grayson McCall didn't have the academics to even transfer to Auburn so he's out.

Will Howard at KSU may be a guy ND can tamper with.

UCLA has zero expectations to make the playoffs. We need upperclassman quarterbacking this team.

The last time we started a true freshman at QB, he was such a hot shit recruit that he announced his commitment at the college football Hall of Fame, and we went 3-9.
Clausen turned into a very good QB of course, but we should have someone better than any true freshman is likely to be. Like a 24-year-old transfer dude. Or Minchey if he’s ready.

My original point is not that ND should be expecting 18/19 year old freshman to play immediately. It's that ND should be able to take 18 months to get a highly ranking redshirt 20 year old game ready when he's been on campus for a year and a half.

I think the QB room as it's stacking up will provide a ton of internal competition and development (Angeli, Minchey, Carr, Knight) in '25 and going forward. I'd like to think '24 could be handled by Minchey. I believe there is no reason he can't be ready.

But speaking out of both sides of my mouth, I get that ND shouldn't put all their eggs in that basket. If ND goes to the portal, I think a high powered QB will look at ND as an option. In the NIL world ND lives, a Heisman contending ND quarterback can/will command a ton of money. Hartman is proving that.

Isn't Grayson McCall like 37 years old?

Garrett Schrader anyone?

Just throwing out names...
Pretty sure this is his 4th year playing, he Redshirted in 2020 the year that doesn't count. Similar to hartman with this being hartmans year.

I actually would like Riley Leonard if we can't get Pratt.

Because he's a large human being with athleticism, Leonard is currently looking like a Day 2 pick (with a chance to rise, much like Daniel Jones did). If that's the case, he definitely enters the draft.
