Duece isn’t going to ND I don’t think.
He just keeps extending his recruitment as if he just doesn’t want to go to ND.
At first, he literally said Tennessee & ND were his top 2. Said he loved both & would make a decision over the summer.
Then Tennessee backed off. So instead of sticking to his timeline, he then said his top 3 were Tennessee, ND & Ole Miss.
Then said he would not be deciding until after visits, but before his season started. He went to ND & Ole Miss. Then instead of deciding, he then says he wants to see teams play this fall & will decide after that.
So he keeps changing his decision process when ND is the best option.
He wants to stay south. He tried transferring to Lipscomb in Tennessee and got homesick. That was too far north for him.
I think ND realizes it’s not going to happen & if Bear wants to commit they will take him.
So the whole thing about the shirts with Deuce's Wild and Bear Down on them asking who's first? ........ do you think that was primarily targeted to elicit a reaction from Bear or Deuce?

Staff essentially got unlucky with Angeli and Pyne. Both were highly rated recruits with big time offer lists early in the cycle.

But didn't pretty much all of the big time schools back off/not push for Angeli? That was pretty much the case with Pyne around the start of his Junior year.

One or other...I don't think the staff see a huge difference in long term potential between the two. Duece has some tantalizing physical attributes, but seems quite raw in the few games I have got to see of him. Bear has a strong arm and quick release...while playing better competition week in and week out.

Staff doesn't want another Dante Moore situation. Where they risk getting caught with their pants down, so to speak.

At the time, I had the same thought as you. But based upon what Reaper said, I thought maybe the staff resigned themselves to the fact that Deuce isn't deciding anytime soon and so they did the shirts targeting Bear to hopefully get a commitment when he visited.

I think if Angeli is the guy in 2024, ND fans will be really disappointed after a few games. Eapecially after a guy like Hartman. I've never seen it with Angeli so hoping Minchey pushes him.

And he’s visiting Auburn this weekend.

I think we’ll be at least somewhat disappointed after Hartman no matter who is the starter next year unless it is another transfer with 5 years of playing experience at a high level.

I'm not sure how someone could realistically make that observation already
Painfully slow release, doesn't feel the rush, not very athletic, solid arm, not a gun slinger by any means.

What have you seen that shows you he's a possible CFB playoff QB?

exactly....... A ton of early offers for both, then the big boys backed off when they realized their skill set wasn't all that

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I think Angeli will be a successful college QB. Wouldn’t be surprised if he starts in College Station next year.
Depends on your definition of succesful. I think he's your typical ok QB at Illinois, Indiana, northwestern, etc.

He's a RS frosh that has only been able to actually run an offense in one game. In that one game, he was 8/11, 130 yards, and 2 touchdowns. He had rave reviews from Fall camp. He's not where he needs to be yet, but he's a RS freshman and he will get there. It would be weird to think he'll just stop improving.

Game experience is what Angeli needs most. Hopefully we’ll see more this coming Saturday.

The staff now calls that "getting Mel Tucker'd"

Pocket awareness can improve. Athleticism and a slow release won't. A slow release against a good defense is bad news. It's not his stats that I care about, it's the makeup of him as a QB. If he went 11/11 on checkdowns with 3 TDs my concern wouldn't change. I could be wrong but I think it's easy to think he "has it" now when it doesn't matter and he won't be out there. But I think he'll either 1) not be the guy or 2) ND fans will be disappointed.

Doesn’t matter how anyone tries to spin it, they wanted Duece first.
When Duece was originally going to commit early summer, they were going to take it if he chose ND, and they hadn’t even offered Bear yet.
They offered Bear after Duece changed his timeline a second time.

He's the backup you want while the next future starter is developing (minchey/Carr).

That's the new "buchner" saying. Just needs game experience.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see, we don’t really know what he’ll become. Did we think Sam Hartman would play as well as he has after ND pummeled him his freshman year?

Deuce has way more talent, but is showing lately he may have some mental issues you don't want to see from your QB.

he showed incredible toughness for a scrawny true frosh that game. Didn't play well to your point. But I definitely saw more athleticism, quick release, and accuracy in that game then I have from Angeli so far. He just wasn't ready .

Hartman isn't all world, but he's playing great due to 6 years. We don't have the time to struggle through a year or two of angeli developing and hoping he becomes so much better.
