Nobody is.

Lion points out, however, that Riley has done a similar roster overhaul and no one is really talking about it. Hypothetically speaking if Meyer or Schiano were doing it, the narrative would likely be similar to that of Riley doing it. Silent.
Understood…..do you think that maybe Deion is getting more attention because maybe that‘s what he wants? In addition, he was a polarizing player because of his “style” of confidence, I think that comes into play here as well. The more attention that you crave, it will bring positive as well as negative. Riley appears to be pretty confident (cocky) as well but maybe a bit more understated. That in itself will garner less attention especially if someone else in the same occupation is soaking it up. BTW, I don’t think Prime deserves a lot of negative attention at this point but he might after things play out.

Sports media, the NCAA, other schools, coaches, etc are treating this as pro sports - roster construction story and not a broken promise to student-athletes scandal. Tells you all you need to know.

I think that is part of it.

He's a story for the media, without question. He's definitely not in the coaching good ol' boy network either. There are a lot of moving parts.

It all has a very business, NFL like feel to it and that makes things very uncomfortable, along with his brashness as a coach in his mid 50s. He made people uncomfortable as a player too.

I think once you look past all of the cake and watermelon over what he's doing, it makes a lot of sense for a program like CU. I think HC hired into similar situations are going to follow and will do so much more quietly. Then we'll start to see the blue bloods get on board in an effort to maintain their own edge.

Coaches can come and go as they please. The players can too now. It's the players who really won't have football after college that are actually trying to get degrees for the real world I often wonder about, and there are quite a few more of them than we realize.

My primary issue with him is not the roster overhaul. I don't like his message, approach, undeserved bravado in the coaching world, and frankly don't like him.

One of my favorite football quotes was one Andrew Luck used at Stanford "My actions are so loud you can't hear what I'm saying"

Deion is the epitome of the opposite of that. Can't stop screaming about how great he is and how hes bringing his bags of Gucci. Meanwhile he wasn't able to win a championship in a pretty weak league with FAR superior talent.

His schtick worked as a player. He didn't need to set the standard for 85 kids. He will demand discipline, attention to detail, and ultimately success from his players but is placing emphasis on things that don't breed a culture to cultivate those qualities. His hypocrisy bothers me more than anything.
Spot ON!!!!!! I can't wait for NE to roll in there and win by 20+

I think I may have figured out a way to fix the portal and college football, but not sure where to put it. I know there are some holes in it but it may stop/slow guys from blowing up rosters, gray shirting, buying up all the 5* talent, and reduce transfers.
I am all for commentary, as I said this is just my random drive time thinking here. This is the first time I put anything down.

What if we dropped the Scholarship limit from 85 down to say 60 (this number can change).
I know you can't have 53 like the NFL, because the NFL can trade/pick up free agents mid season but....

- Force coaches to develop the entire roster
- Force coaches to recruit quality, not just quantity
- Limit schools like (OSU/ALA/LSU) from being 4 deep w/ all 5*
-Parity - talent gets spread out as teams fill up

(MODS please move to a more appropriate thread if needed)
This isn't all that crazy to me. I wonder the impact it would have that we can't think of. Even if you went to 70, that is 15 less per school and roughly 2000 players now being bounced down a notch. Which in reality would increase the play at MAC level and below because kids would have to be more serious in their recruiting about a Miami of Ohio versus Miami due to roster spots. The kid stuck in the portal that can play should be less likely. Or, the portal kids are more apt to take a DII spot or less to play knowing they're limited. There is just over 8000 who entered the portal last year, this cuts 2000 spots from FBS level... that's the only concern. What impact does that have overall?

That is what I don't know, I would like to have further discussion about it, some really bright minds (and not) on this board. It was one of those things that came to me and the more I thought about it the more it made sense.

The blue bloods are already getting the kids. I don't think there will be much change there. The key for CU is two things. 1. Can Sanders coach and 2. Will CU continue to invest in the FB program to make CU attractive.

Yeah. That's not what I'm saying.

At what point do Alabama, UGA, Ohio State, etc. start cutting players to make room for better ones? You have a certain amount of scholarships to give to recruits and portal transfers. The guys that don't exhaust eligibility or transfer, you run out if they're not cutting the mustard, right?

That has to be the next frontier.

Comparing what prime is doing to what Riley did is a reach. Riley took in 20 players and a large handful came from his Oklahoma team.

Prime took in 51 transfers then add the 20+ he took in as freshman. This is basically the whole roster compared to about half. This is unprecedented.

He brought his Louis. Coach Prime doesn’t mess around.
i think he’s smart. He’s setting himself apart from the status quo. He’s showing the success he had at the ultimate level which is where most CFB players want to go regardless of how realistic it may or may not be. He knows he’s takin on a Herculean job to turn around a once successful program at a school that really doesn’t care about football so he’s the carnival barker luring people to come watch b/c they haven’t been worth watching in some time. Lastly, he‘s got broad shoulders and take any negative feedback he may or may not be receiving which also keeps the pressure off his staff & players. And Louis Vuitton is expensive as shit. It’s what I expect a pro athlete to carry…not a CFB coach (even though most can afford it).

It is funny that Deon preaches he is a devout Christian, but constantly refers to himself as “Him” with the capitol H.

That article is a good example of why many dislike Sanders.
I don’t know. I like the dude b/c he zigs where others zags. Yes he was Prime Time & had all the gold chains & jeri curl but at the end of the day he came from a strong family, kept his nose clean, loves Jesus & connects w/ today’s athlete while still instilling discipline. I hope he upends the apple cart.

All that to say, TCU isn’t getting much respect coming off a NC game appearance so tomorrow will be interesting & probably the highest rated tv game TCU & CU have played in a long time.

I know. He shouldn't respond to every middle aged white guy that comes at him. At some point, just stick to Saban. Narduzzi and Kanell are not worth the time.

There isn't anything DS said that isn't true. It is true for most unanimous All Americans who became top five picks and Hall of Famers. These college programs didn't really "give" them as much as we've been led to believe for so long. Harbaugh talked some truth about Michigan years ago, too. Was he wrong? No.

Again, DS falls outside of the regular narrative and says things in places he doesn't belong. Then Narduzzi, Venebles and Kanell clutch their pearls along with others.

Deion won me some money today. Took the over on points scored, took Buffs +21, Buffs outright, and parlayed the Over with the Under in the Iowa game (when is that not a lock?). If only I had conviction in the Buffs and emptied the rest of my FanDuel balance into them…
