I think it was PI but the no-effort-on the ball put the PI in question when it should have never been, and you saw how that played out.

Every single WR coach in the world will tell him that when he came to the sideline.

Before any of you rag on Merriweather, just look at my parlay...if I'm not criticizing him this game, no one should be.

This is a natural part of some player's evolution. Merriweather will have some big games for us, just be patient.

He was waiting for the ball to arrive. Nothing more he could’ve done.

Hartman hesitated on the throw and then they ran out of space in the back of the end zone. It was a 50-50 PI. Probably Merriweather could've sold it better but also it was one of two less-than-awesome throws Hartman made all night. It's fine.

It was clear PI, and the ref even threw the flag and as usual another from theother side of the field comes to overrule it. Yes, he should attack the ball but doesn't negate a clear PI. Also didn't help that it still would've been a TD if not for Hartman hesitating on the throw and causing Merriweather to run out of real estate.

Did he get any additional targets??

I agree it was one of Sam Hartman’s worst throws all of otherwise very good day

I suspect he will be fine and really get going through the year.
There is less pressure on him now as he is likely now the 4th target for Hartman at this point. That could change quickly with some big plays.

Somebody should analyze the game to see what the coaching staff thought about his effort. How much did he play relative to other WRs? I don't know the answer to this, but it would add an actual fact into the discussion.

he needs to catch the bubble RPO. Hartman was late (probably because the play was under center and not something he is used to). Both can be true
