One of the best to ever do it. His self titled album is one of my top 10 all time. It was part of Daniel Lanois’ holy trinity that he did back to back to back with Peter Gabriel’s So and U2’s Joshua Tree in 86-87.

If you’ve never listened to this front to back, you’re missing out.
If you didn't know any better and listened to that song, you might think it was U2. RIP

This album and Joshua Tree were recorders at the same time so there’s a lot of shared DNA. Peter Gabriel sings back up on this particular track.

RIP Terry Funk
A legend in the world of professional wrestling. I didn't follow the territory stuff, that was before my time, so my first exposure to Funk was as Chainsaw Charlie when he teamed up with Cactus Jack in the WWF. They put on a hell of a match with the New Age Outlaws, a dumpster match at WM. Then Foley and Funk faced each other in the Royal Rumble and it was a hardcore smorgasbord, just hitting each other with foreign objects over and over and loving it. He was a crazy mofo.

I am surprised Terry Funk lived as long as he did.

My dad first took me to WWF wrestling in 1984 and Terry Funk was on the card. As a kid from the NW Side of Chicago, he really was the ultimate heel to me. Just a goofy redneck looking dude with a branding iron. I despised him.

Later on I came to appreciate him and his role in the gig. His cameo in Road House was excellent too.

I'm today years old when I found out Terry Funk was in Road House. Of course, it's probably been 20+ years since I've seen the movie, I barely knew who Funk was then.

He was also in Over the Top, The Ringer and did an episode of Quantum Leap in 1991.

Here is the house show I saw him at. It was 1985:

WWF @ Chicago, IL – Rosemont Horizon – December 13, 1985 (12,400)
Don Muraco vs. Ricky Steamboat .
The Junkyard Dog vs. Terry Funk
WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan & Paul Orndorff vs. Roddy Piper & Bob Orton Jr.

I saw the Tweet from HHH 15 minutes after it was posted. Pretty unreal, gone way too soon. Windham was one of my favorites in an era where there aren't a lot of impressive younger talents that can put it all together. In a business that often struggles to find charismatic performers today, Bray was a truly gifted one. Everything he did revolved around the characters he created, not a move or boring persona. He created entertaining gimmicks in an era where gimmicks were dead. His Bray Wyatt "Eater of Worlds" was creepy and mystic. The Firefly Funhouse was a strange twist that married a children's performer with dark and twisted multiple personas. The Fiend had it's ups and downs, but at one point it was popular with the fans. This makes two members of the "Wyatt Family" that passed early, the other being Jon Huber two years ago. Windham had been battling health issues since February and was actually recovering, he was cleared just two weeks ago to return to wrestling. They're saying it's a heart attack that did him in.

I love a good entrance. Bray did a lot of things so well, but I always thought his entrance was pretty cool, especially in later years when people would get out their cell phone cameras when the lights went out. This was the Wyatt family debut, and for a guy still early in his career he did such a good job playing a sadistic character and exuding mystery as he'd come down to the ring with these entrances.

This was the first promo he did after he was rehired last October (He was let go as part of the pandemic layoffs). It's pretty emotional, but you can tell there's some truth in what he's saying.

An industry of people who are gone far too soon.

Mike Rotunda's son, Barry and Kendall Windham's nephew. Where does the time go?

So sad.

The Funk brothers were the ultimate “bad guys“. I remember being a big Dusty Rhodes fan and the Funks & Harley Race were his biggest rivals. He had some crazy rant that went something like, “Terry Funk, Dory Funk, Daddy Funk & Mother Funk…if you know what I mean!?” So dumb but Dusty made it hilarious w/ his delivery.

Heard Hulk Hogan say that wrestling has lost 100s of athletes over the last 20 years or so where sports like baseball & football have lost a handful comparatively. Who wins & loses is definitely fake but what happens in between is not.

The gal who played Mrs. Garvey on Little House on the Prairie passed away. She was Merlin Olson's wife on the show.

Everybody is dead from that show now. Except for the kids. And even then, Mary is Canadian now, which is even worse.

100s is a bit of an overstatement, but not by a whole lot. There's definitely been too many gone too soon. It's murder on your body, and while house shows have been down substantially the last several years between the pandemic and such they used to be on the road 300 days a year. It's a lot of wear and tear on your body, a lot of guys turned to pain killers, booze, and other crutches to keep the pain away. Steroids to bulk up and assist in recovery were common, and for some like Eddie it lead to an enlarged heart and failure. There's been a number of suicides for sure. Heart attack or heart related remains the #1 by a good margin, although cancer and drug overdose are also big contributors.

Those wrestlers are a different breed who live the fast lifestyle. Not surprised they go out sooner than other sports people.

Steroid use is extremely common with pro wrestlers. It probably accounts for or at least contributes to many of these early deaths.

Don’t doubt it. The Hogan interview was great. He started in 1977 and basically went through his history up till now. I had forgotten that Bruiser Brody was murdered by a fellow wrestler/booker down in Puerto Rico. Slit his damn throat and then got off w/ no conviction.
