Heard a few stories that Bob liked to play Plinko with his models. 😉. RIP Bob.

Tony Roberts was as good as it gets. RIP Tony.

Gil Brandt has passed at age 91. A long time member of the Cowboys organization (before Jones) he was the one that started using statistical analysis for evaluating players. The number of guys he found that turned out to be AllPro and HOF’ers is mind boggling.

I'll be tipping a margarita for my guy today.

i'm guessing most people mid to late 30s and younger probably don't know who he is but they need to check out his music if they just like various music in general and just not rap and hip hop because he had some great songs. remember hearing margaritaville on the radio a lot as a young kid in the late 70s and got to really loving it at the start of my teenage years in the mid 80s along cheeseburger in paradise and other songs of his.

Going to JB shows is what Dead Heads did when they started showering and got jobs.

Like going to see the Dead, going to see Jimmy was more than just the show, it was about the tailgate and the postgate and how the lifestyle followed you home and was a part of your daily attitude.

Growing up in Michigan City's beach & boat culture, Jimmy was the patron saint of weekends at Stop 2 (name of a local beach) long before I knew what a Parrothead was. Funny thing is, now that a ton of my friends from home have retired to Florida, they are almost all full time Parrotheads now that they can do it 12 months a year.

Man that sucks. The Buffett tailgates at Jones Beach were epic. What an icon.

Buffet had just broken out as a star when I started college. There were guys around who remembered him playing in local bars and doing free shows at the student union building a few years before.

Gary Wright has passed at the age of 80. Battled Parkinson’s and dementia. He had two big hits Dream Weaver and Love is Alive.

Sad about Buffet. Evidently he had hit rock bottom and couldn’t even take care of his dog. About to give up he hit the jackpot when he got a deal for Margaritaville. Built an empire with one song. RIP Jimmy, you did well.

I didn't know he did Love is Alive, but I'll always remember Dream Weaver because of Wayne's World.

I can never disassociate Dream Weaver from a HS experience. The song was a hit my sophomore or junior year. I played football with a lineman named James Weaver, who was well-liked. At least a couple of times per week while we were showering or getting dressed after practice, one of his fellow linemen would sing, "Ohhhhhh, Jaaaaaaaaaaaaames Weaver, I believe you can get me through the niiiiight!" Just one of those goofy, silly moments from my youth that stuck with me.

One of my favorite Texas singer/songwriters passed away. Not widely known but great artist and integral part of the Red Dirt Music scene.

Hard to believe he was 90. He had a whole new career on NCIS, but I mostly remember him in The Great Escape and getting shot at the train station. He was such a gifted, understated, subtle actor.

He was in his prime when I was in my teens. No one could get anything past him. Great career.

Tim Wakefield, famed knuckleballer for the Redsox, passed away earlier today at the age of 57 from brain cancer. He spent most of his career with Boston, but I remember him mostly from the '92 season with the Pirates when he won NL Rookie Pitcher of the Year award and won two games against my Braves in the NLCS, where they just couldn't hit him.

edit: my initial post said Wakefield played for the Reds. It was the Redsox. My mistake.

Bummer. As a Cubs fan I also remember his Pittsburgh days. Seemed like a good dude. RIP.

His success as a pitcher was a cool story, IIRC he started as an infielder but decided to try his hand at the knuckleball. Good decision it turns out.

He’s one of those players that most fans liked regardless of team loyalty. IIRC, he came up as an OF and then transitioned to a pitcher after learning the knuckleball.

EDIT: sorry Rockin’Irish beat me to it

Former New England and San Francisco Pro Bowl TE Russ Francis was killed in a plane crash in upstate NY yesterday at the age of 70. Apparently, he and a former Thunderbirds pilot experienced a problem immediately after takeoff and crashed, killing both men. Francis was an interesting guy. A superb athlete, he set the national HS javelin record in '71, was a 1st round draft pick, was a heck of a TE and very difficult to cover during his NFL career. He gained a lot of fame on the Superstars celebrity competition due his exceptional athleticism. He was also the center of a lot of controversy and speculation during his career, as he apparently never dated any women and was widely presumed to be gay in an era where that was unaccepted in pro sports.
