Here are some thoughts and predictions.
1. Thank god we don't play Ohio State till week 5, we should be able to figure out guard by then.
2. I'd like to see a 10-12 man rotation on the DL this year sub guys in and out and wreak havic.
3. I'm not sure Christian Gray ends up starting maybe he does but it's a good thing to have.
4. I'm predicting Greathouse ends up starting at some point this year.

And the reports week after week are the corners might be the best they’ve had in years. If the WRs were burning the DBs every practice you’d be saying the DBs suck.
Problem is they're never burning the DBs. The bread crumbs are pretty thick at least at ISD that it's not great. The problem is specific (can't separate). It's not like their head isn't in it and they dropped a few balls, they can't get open and that has been a consistent theme.

I knew it was going to be a problem with that Kicker promo-guy came to ND to do a video, and jammed Merriweather twice off the line and about put him on his back. Can't get punked by a kicker.

Yeah I’m not worried about the receivers based off one report. They had a bad day. Doesnt mean they won’t have a good day tom or in games.
Agree. When was the last time you heard a report where the Defense and Offense dominated the same practice? lol

Heading into camp, I had a lot more questions about the defense than offense. From the reports, the defense has exceeded my expectations, and then some. The cornerbacks might be a legit 5 deep: Morrsion, Hart, Mickey, Gray, Lewis. Washington and the DL seem to be proving people wrong. The Aztec package, which I still have no idea what it is, sounds exciting.

I’m not worried about the receivers. It sounds like they’re going up against a top secondary every day. At this point, be smart in practice for the next 2 weeks and get everyone healthy for Navy.

Also, huge kudos to Pat Coogan. I never really thought he’d be a player at ND. Sounds like they’ve had some good battles at the guard spots.

Sounds like Sneed is a missile on blitzes. Jamie called him a "demon". The younger LBs are going to be so good next year, Bowen and Ausberry show up in every review on ISD. Scratch that, the whole freshman defensive class. Christian Gray could start and even the two DL are making waves. Al Golden can recruit!

Sounds like the sub package with Liufau and Botehlo on one side is generating a lot of pass rush. Sounds like left guard is a mess and no one's taking the job away from the others. With RG locked down though and experience at ever other OL position, I think Rudolph can focus and figure it out in the next few weeks.

I stand by my statement that we're overrating Merriweather. If he's just a deep ball threat, are we seeing any evidence he's going to win 50/50s? Does he have to be wide open to make a play? Maybe he needs another year. Colzie appears lost in translation. In reading the three early morning reviews on ISD, WR is probably our weakest group. All they have to talk about is the two freshman surprising, and that's not good. In hindsight, we should have brought in a transfer. Or maybe they tried, but it sure would have helped.
They did bring in a transfer and he retired from football during Spring practice.

Fair point. I guess a transfer that wasn't an out of shape TE playing WR. It'll be interesting, Stuckey has time so I guess we'll see.

What's outlook?

Wr was a known weakness on the team and while the group of Fr that came in look promising they are still just that, Fr.

Just because we have good DBs doesn't mean that group isn't still a weakness.

There's no one to force defenses into doubles or brackets now either. These guys are going to have to figure it out and we need to pray that Parker can scheme some guys open.

Also, turns out maybe Merriweather not playing last year wasn't just a Rees Iz tErRiBlE!!

Onye has been receiving hype for the past 8 months. He's mentioned in pretty much every report, so it seems legit.

My question is, at what point does that translate into a timeshare with Cross at NT, and not a 10 snap per game backup?

A timeshare would seem ideal for Cross, given his size and game.

I have a few thoughts that will probably be very unpopular since they are about HH, Tobias & Sneed…three darlings of many fans & analysts.

Do please tell. Tbh I think our OL will excel with Randolph. Yes the OL was mostly good against most of our equal to lesser opponents but I think Harry made it too complicated and did have favorites. I think Randolph is going to help simplify and let the overall power come through. Also idk if I believe the beat saying Coogan is the starter. From what I’ve been hearing here and reading elsewhere was that Randolph likes to switch up the starters during camp which IMO is great to help with cohesion. As long as the next couple of weeks the line starts to figure itself out.

John Randolph will prove to be a great hire

If your take is that Tobias is a big WR who plays small, then i agree.

NC state will be a huge test for our offense. They have a good D

I think you'll see 10-12 on the dline, but it won't be all dlinemen. You'll see at least 2-3 lbs on the DL in sub packages with Marist and Sneed

Gray isn't starting, but he can lock down the 4th corner spot and allow us to have 4 really good corners. The question to me is how the Frich do you play clarence lewis if you have 4 really good corners and Harper. I swear if I see him on the field and get burned like normal i will lose it

I'm sure there will be a play that's called as an opener that has greathouse in the lineup, but I doubt without injury he's ever penciled in as the starter.

Not that Grupe was awful, but Sampson and the II guys really are making sound like Shrader is a massive upgrade.

Please replace lewis with harper in your 5 deep. He does not belong in the same sentence with morrison and hart, probably mickey and gray as well.

Any indication whether JJB is going to make an impact? Seems he’s had a relatively quiet camp.

The news of Coogan getting to run with the 1s also coincided with a whole lot of praise for the DTs' performance.

Yeah watched the II YouTube thing and I know it’s been beat to death but I feel like the beat still has no idea about anything going on. They were discussing Coogan like he was a lock.

After reading the II and Athletic practice reports, I am pumped for this defense. Defensive line and cornerback are strengths!? Also, this Faison kid is not just a blip on the radar anymore. It seems like he might actually play. Nobody can tackle him.

Yeah, I was very glad to see the defensive line (and the DTs in particular) have success. I like Howard Cross but you really don't want to need 50 snaps a game from him.

I think ND might have enough secondary to conjure up a pass rush by taking risks with the front seven so I'm a little less worried there.

I haven't really heard much about him so I'm going on blind faith here... but I think he's going to have a big impact on the DL. Since he's very similar to Foskey size wise, when they got him, I thought he was a Foskey replacement but he was a big end. I'm not big on the VYPER position outside Botelho but JJB gives flexibility.
