I realized I kicked off speculating who it could be, but I am going to take a step back until there's actual news as it's not fair to the kids.

Am I losing it? I don't see any speculation beyond that locked Loy post.

Did Loy post it originally then lock it, or did someone else post it & Loy locked it?

It’s probably something like ND re-upping with Under Armor or NBC.

Loy posted it, then locked it until the news comes out.

Not sure why he wouldn't just lock it to start, you know there is going to be a ton of speculation when you post something like that

Staples leaving is a loss at the athletic for sure, I wonder how long Sampson will be there. He hasn’t done a podcast in a month and doesn’t exactly churn out content. Fortuna is out on paternity leave so I know that has affected the podcasts.

Where's he going to go?

He's a Notre Dame beat guy, has been his whole career, and he's no kid. If you want to write good smart stories, as he does, (and not just chase recruiting scoops) it is the best job covering Notre Dame, in large part because they don't just "churn out content," as you put it. The other would maybe be the South Bend Tribune, but I'm sure The Athletic pays better. Did the SBT even replace Hansen and Tyler James?

And from The Athletic's perspective, Notre Dame has got to be one of the ten programs that drive the most readership for them. Maybe top five. Yes they dropped their Va. Tech beat guy but as long as they have beat reporters, they'll have one covering Notre Dame. And Sampson is the best around.

I’m not saying Sampson would leave on his own accord. I think the athletic is in some big trouble. I think they could be cutting a lot of positions.

Would not surprise me if Staples, Spencer Hall, Ryan Nanni and those guys all end up starting something new.

Can't stand half of them because of how douchey they are about ND... but most of them are funny and good college football writers, at least.
