LOL, not for everyone.
The secret is icy hot on the lower back. It keeps you loose AND generates heat under the under armor.
Love winter golf, never tried the icy hot move, will give it a go. I always walk in winter rounds and keep it moving, usually works. There is a course in Staten Island that stays open. Gotta find previously used tee holes to get your peg in lol

Walking is a must.

My buddy brings a drill, but I just buy a set of golf simulator tees and cut them down to the desired heights.

come at me...

I went back to Makray today and brought the back up driver. It's quite a bit longer than my gamer due to its hotter face, lower launch, and lower spin. It's pretty unforgiving though so that keeps it from sticking around very long.

The course was playing frozen fast and with the leaves off the trees it felt very wide open. It already has generous fairways, but the winter weather made it look linksy. I typically will bring the Stealth when at least 2 of 3 things are happening: striking it well, wide open course, or a windy day.

I started off great with three pars. I tripled number four due to a frozen green that sloped away from the box. The tee was elevated about 30 feet above the green and it was only about 135 to the middle. I hit a towering PW that came down in a near vertical line and landed about 10 yards past the pin. The ball bounced about 10-15 feet in the air... like a cart path and trickled off down the hill onto the frozen pond. Yesterday I landed short and chipped up for a two putt bogey. I should've done the same, but thought I could hold it.

Anyway I recovered and played the next 9 holes one over before my back started acting up. I started to get little spasm waves that weren't overly painful, but got in my head. I doubled the next two holes and was having trouble picking the ball up. I always lather up the icy hot before a cold weather round, but it wasn't enough today.

It freaked me out a bit and I decided to call it a day over risking my whole summer over a round in January. A percocet, a couple very healthy pours of Patron, and a soak in my hot tub has me feeling "A" ok now.

Here's to the snow staying away a bit longer! I'd love to do it all again next weekend.

Damn.. chess, not checkers. Fair play lol. hit em straight

If you buy the sim tees, buy the big pack. You'll be surprised how easily you can lose them on the course. I'm considering tying two of them together with a 2 foot string to "anchor" it down after I hit my ball.

I got a new set of Calaway Maverick’s over the winter. Still waiting for the weather to turn before breaking them out.

Anybody used these before? Any feedback please? I’m sure they’re an upgrade over my old $300 Strata stater set.

I’ve had the Mavrik Max driver in my bag the last two summers and just absolutely love it. Don’t have to put a big turn into it to get big distance, and it’s the most forgiving driver I’ve ever used.

Was waiting for an opportunity to put the irons in my bag as well, and Callaway Preowned just did a blowout sale and I snagged the iron set for just over $400 last week. Can’t wait to bust them out

Damn, $400…steal. Nice

Yeah, I’m excited to bust them out too. Too cold though but there is a simulator down the street that I might hit up. Still need to get the 3 wood which will happen soon.

I promised myself I wasn't going to make any changes this year, BUT I went and tried all the new drivers and fairway woods and spent some $$.

Updated WITB:

Ping G430 LST
TM Stealth Plus 2 5 wood
Apex Pro 20 Hybrid
TM DHY 20
PXG 0311P 5-7
PXG 0311T 8-P
50, 54, 58 Cleveland RXT full face wedges.

The 430 is like the G400 reincarnated only better. Sound, feel, forgiveness, and long! The 400 LST was my favorite driver of all time. I hated the 410. I had a spectacular honeymoon phase with the 425 so I gifted my 400 to a buddy and have regretted it ever since.
Ping has hit this driver out of the park!

The Stealth 2 FW has so much more adjustability than the OG. It's a lower loft (18 over 19) and I turn it down 2 degrees anyway for gaping purposes. The huge sliding weight had me hitting low lasers when forward or high soft landing bombers when all the way back. It's going to be awesome to adjust according to conditions or shot needed. Windy? Weight forward. I need it to stop on a dime to hold a green? Weight all the way back. Need a fairway finder with some roll? Weight in the middle.

Can't wait to tinker with it.
Like I said, I'm a club ho.

I was looking into those PXG’s. They give a really nice first responder discount and I’ve heard people love them.

Looking for some advice on clubs for my son. He's in middle school and has really taken a liking to golf and played on the golf team last year. At this point, I think he should just start swinging men's clubs, though they may be slightly long for him now, he can grow into them. I used to keep up on golf technology, but it's been 15-20 years since I cared.

Buying new probably isn't an option with prices these days, I'd like to find a decent set of used clubs, less than 10 years old. I'm thinking a driver, 3 or 4 wood, (he has a rescue wood), and then 5-SW probably. I hope to spend between $500-$600 for a set.

I don't live in an area with a bunch of big golf shops so my options would be either Ebay or 2nd hand online stores.

Any help would be appreciated. I just don't know what brands have kept up anymore. I'm still rockin' Ping Eye 2 black dots if that tells you how long it's been since I bought clubs, haha.
Do you have a Second Swing or any sort of golf consignment shop close? I really like to hit a set of clubs before I buy. I’ve gone the eBay route a few times, but only for single clubs (adding a 3 iron to my 4-PW set, for example).

I really like Ping irons and would highly recommend those for intermediate golfers. They’re pretty forgiving and a solid choice for youth golfers. I played my Ping I3+ set from 8th grade until I was 22. I also have had a lot of good experience with Cleveland irons.

I love the irons. Played every generation of the 0311, but not a fan of the woods. Didn't get along with the drivers or fairways. I've heard great things about the hybrids, but I'm in love with the Apex Pro and have stuck with it the last three releases.

I try every driver every year, but can't get away from the Pings.

FYI, They have a eBay store and will honor offers if you're a first responder/vet.
I picked up a full set of Gen 4 darkness for $400 cheaper than they were selling for.

Not really close enough to run quick. Denver is about six hours, they’d be the closest.

I play Ping Eye’s as well and have always liked them. I haven’t golfed enough in the past decade to keep up on the technology or pay the astronomical prices.

I’ve always been a believer that, sure, equipment can help, especially for people who are just learning, but the stroke or two difference for more experienced golfers isn’t worth a grand plus to me. If I want stroke gains, I’d practice more, haha.

The masters had dreadful conditions to finish the second round. Tiger makes 23 consecutive Masters. Tied for the most.

Update: I'm 27 rounds deep into 2023 already. I've played the Irish course in Kolher a few times, but yesterday I took on the Straits!
45 degrees, rain, and 15 mph wind (luckily from the west).
Somehow it was equal parts heaven and hell.
Miserable conditions, but what a spectacular piece of property. Pete Dye mind f's you on every shot. Even a simple 120 yard par three had me questioning myself and nervous. I'm definitely going back this year when the conditions get warmer.

Great photos. I was there for the Ryder Cup a couple of years ago. Amazing course. Had plans to play a round post tournament but had to cancel. If you're shooting a 98, I'm shooting 125. Gotta get my money's worth, I suppose. haha.

So awesome to see our local club pro make some news and become the story this past weekend! Our friend's son works at Arroyo Trabuco and had texted Block about his work schedule for this week. I told him I doubt he will get a response and the text is probably lost in the 40k other texts he likely received over the weekend.

Block got invited to play in the colonial tournament this week, there was a big deal where he got the invite and his boss from the club was with him and said he didn't need to show up to work this week.

He also got invited to play in RBC canadian open in June

What a slap in the face to the players that stuck with the PGA.

They just can't stop tripping over their own dicks. They had the moral high ground (which was all BS, obviously), and the better set up (i.e., final rounds meaning something for the players, lack of guaranteed money, non-team events).

We going to set up blaring speakers at Amen Corner now? Are they just going to stuff cash into the mouths of the PGA pros who stuck by the Tour? What a galactic mess.

European tour is merging with the PGA and LIV as well. Not sure if it’s good or bad. Similar to the AFL and NFL merging in the 60’s and the ABA and NBA merging in the 70’s. Hopefully they take the good parts of each tour and this stops some of the infighting and makes golf better. Probably will see an increase in purses across the tournaments so will eventually be higher payouts to the players. I definitely do not want to see music blaring and other “non-traditional golf” happenings from the LIV tour.
