I think Saban will want Rees to RTDB. Buchner will have the luxury of a solid OL, great RB, and TEs and the playmakers at WR when called upon. He won't need to shoulder any kind of load and for him, that's probably the best possible situation.

With that said, Saban is notorious for his DGAF mentality and if the season goes sideways, heads will Roll. Bama is a place to put up or shut up. Thoughts and prayers to Rees and Buchner. It could go amazingly well or it could get painful quick.

Man I really don't know. Buchner at his best could be an NFL player. He is so inconsistent though and has played such little football.

There is a world where he is literally Heisman caliber for Bama but based on what we saw this spring does anyone actually think he should play over Hartman? I sure as hell don't. The bigger question for me is almost "how did ND get Hartman instead of Bama getting Hartman?" Seems like a total coup. We clearly got the more polished, consistent, and accurate passer and he's probably going to be way more productive with ND's lack of proven talent at WR than Buchner would've been.
I've wondered this for weeks. Not just Alabama, but most NIL schools. Totally don't get it. Are we actually paying Sam some big time money?

Umm.. this wreaks of desperation. Looks to me like Nick is not happy with his QB room.. Buchner will surely have the opportunity to shine.

We'll see..

So is Buchner officially a villain now or do we have to wait for him to post something stupid about appropriation on IG 1st?

The only answer to us getting Hartman (#1 QB transfer) + him not leaving after Rees, Kaleb Smith, and Styles all leave has to be because of $$$. It's the only logical answer. Why else would he be this loyal?

Because ND is headless at OC and probably letting Hartman have a hand in his own scheme?

Yeah, I think Hartman is worried about the draft more than NIL and thought that playing in a Rees offense would make some better film for NFL scouts.
I'm still surprised that a Bama or UGA didn't go after Hartman. He'd be better than whoever they could trot out at QB in 2023.

They might have but the path to PT probably didn't look that clear in the winter. (Admittedly, OTTOMH I don't know what Georgia's roster looks like at the position).

Idk why ND fans refuse to accept this.

Bama has an OC that has done VERY little successfully as a college football coach. Great moments, but very inconsistent like his new QB.

I just don't see buchner having the mental ability needed to do well on 3rd downs even in shortish yardage. His ability give you a ton of options, but man does he make the easy look hard at times, or the worst possible read you could ever imagine. Plus, i really think he struggles to get the offense into the right protections.

Calling it now, he'll do well. Minchey and Carr competition next year will be interesting
What do you guys consider well? The last 4 QBs were crazy successful. I’d be very surprised if he comes close to the level of Young, Jones, Tua, and Hurts. I’d say he ends up closer to Blake Barnett than any of those 4. Will be very interesting to follow.

Why would Hartman care about Styles?

I'm kinda shocked he actually went through with the transfer. But TB will go 11-1 at Bama before UGA comes in for the knockout in the SEC CG. That's if he even wins the starting role, Bryce Young went 14-30 for 150 yards and a pick in their spring game. It's actually pretty common for the Bama QB to suck in their spring game. Either way, I'm not rooting for him or Bama.....Too bad they both can't lose when LSU plays them.

Would you take one of the Bama QBs that hit the portal after this as a backup?
No. If you need depth, take an upperclassman with some game experience that fits the offense you've crafted with Hartman. Taking an underclassman risks additional musical chairs. Keeping Angeli and Minchey on board, as well as Carr's commitment, needs to be a priority.

I'd almost be willing to put money down that there is another name in this competition before it is all said and done
Agreed. No doubt in my mind they go after another super senior to compete for the job.

I don't think Buchner has been given any assurance of being the starter. He didn't need that. The simple fact is its Alabama. Bama wins championships and thats all he needs.

If you are going to be #2 QB at Bama or ND, where would you rather be if you want to win a Natty??

Bama and UGA are in a class of their own and so the value for transferring is there. It sucks.

This is not a good look for this staff either. We can't be going into seasons without a legit, experienced Backup. Typical ND crap.
