Geronimo was a healthy scratch. He's just not a good player. Good athlete and can shoot threes but can't put it together.

Bates was 0-13 for the tourney. Yikes.

Hood does need another year but will probably leave as he's a first rounder.

The Big Ten suffers from 'three yards and a cloud of dust' ball. It's football not basketball. Michigan State started this over 20 years ago with Izzo's 'make it a football game' mantra.
Wisconsin, Purdue, Iowa and others followed suit. And when they get to the tourney, they are surprised when they all get beat by fast, quick, shooting 'basketball teams'.

Indiana has been lost since Knight. Terrible coaching hires, terrible culture. Terrible AD and athletic department. Archie Miller set the program back 6 years. He was that bad. Glass was warned by alums that he was terrible. He did it anyway and retired when it became apparent he was a loser.
There is just no excuse for them not to be able to go out and hire a good, proven coach. I hope Woodson succeeds.

I laughed when U of I lost to UNC in the 2005 championship game and whined about Sean May playing bully-ball. A lot of people from my h.s. went to U of I, so I got to hear about how tough and physical Big Ten basketball was compared to other conferences for years, only for them to bitch about it when they got beat at their own game when it mattered most.

Big Ten programs to have won championships (I am leaving Maryland out as they were not in the Big Ten when they won their title):

Wisconsin 1941,
Ohio State 1960,
Michigan 1989,
Michigan State 1979, 2000
and Indiana 1940, 1953, 1976, 1981, 1987

The 80s was easily the best decade and that Michigan team was a total fluke.

Why was the ‘89 MI team a fluke? GREAT roster that responded well to the coaching change. Best player in the country. Big line up. Unusual circumstance to overcome? Yes. Fluke? No.

BTW… 1988-89 was the greatest year in college basketball history as far as elite teams.

Apparently you don’t know it’s not University of Indiana.

Miami owns Indiana. Beat them twice in two days.
I watched the last three quarters of that game last night. It was almost a carbon copy of the men’s game in terms of how it was played.

Probably should have used the word "surprise." They were a three seed and had the very late coaching change. Certainly were not favored by any stretch. Michigan State and Indiana's titles were more expected, for certain.

Good call out.

The Duke-Georgetown regional final was one for the ages.

I always prefer to throw the "Those were Bill Self's guys anyway" argument in their faces, even though I don't believe it. LOL.

Again, so much of sports comes down to timing and luck. That Illinois team was really good but they ran into what was a really good UNC team in the Final. 1989 Flying Illini, same thing.

Kentucky was probably less than a minute and a couple of good bounces from Three Peating. They got the upstart Bibby/Simon Arizona team in the 1997 Final. One of the best finals ever.

I loved that Flyin' Illini team. They were really fun to watch. One of the more entertaining teams during that era. Four of their five starters all got some time in the NBA. Amazing they never won the tourney.

It was a pretty old team--all of the contributors were at least juniors, so I think it's fair to say they were Self's players, but it was Weber's team by that point. I think Weber was a good coach, but he couldn't recruit for shit. People give Brey a hard time about his recruiting, but look at what Weber was doing at U of I in the aftermath of making it to the title game. Yikes. Then he goes to KSU and takes Frank Martin's guys and wins a share of the Big 12 championship before losing in an upset to LaSalle...and promptly wanders in the wilderness for a few years before a nice run in 2017-2019 before falling off a cliff again.

I was in attendance. It was about as electric of an atmosphere as I've been in live. Only ND-SC 2005 and seeing the White Sox clinch the AL West in 1993 really compare.

Lute Olson was not wrong about Allstate being a dump. I just thought it was funny. Felt like sore loserville.

Well, SDSU just outplayed us. I thought we had it, but they got salty on defense, we went really cold, and they went on a 23-5 run. We clawed our way back to within 2 down the stretch, but they just straight up beat us. I'll tip my hat to them.

Glad to see Sampson get the boot. First time since seeding started that no #1 seeds make the E8.

Should be some more interesting games today and tomorrow. UConn looks like they may be the best left out there. Maybe Texas .

I think Miami vs UConn could be the best game of the tourney if both hold serve. They've been the two teams that have stood out the most to me. I'd put Texas right behind them with Creighton & SDSU rounding out the Top 5.

Big East was an afterthought coming into the tournament, but they’ve flexed their muscle.
