Not sure how you all feel but Shrewsberry has really grown on me the last month or so the more I’ve watched them. How does everyone feel about him? I know when he was first mentioned at the beginning of all this there wasn’t many who would be on board (myself included) but I’ve really liked what I’ve seen since I’ve started watching their games.

He would be an absolute disaster.

According to ESPN, these are the names that are linked at the moment.

Penn State: Micah Shrewsberry (heavily linked)
Colgate: Matt Langel (picking up steam)
Ohio State: Chris Holtmann (mentioned, but nothing current)
Drake: Darian DeVries (a likely option)
Creighton: Greg McDermott (nothing concrete)
If the administration is serious about allowing Micah Shrewsberry build a program (lessen restrictions for academics, allow transfer portal, etc...) then he would be a very energetic hire to a program that badly needs some new energy.

Lengel has been great at Colgate, but I'd rather take someone like Shrewsberry who has the Power 5 experience and deep recruiting roots in the Indiana an surrounding states from his time at Purdue.

The rest of the options would be "fine" hires, but Shrewsberry is a rising star in the industry and would be a very inspiring hire.
He has the NBA experience as well that high end recruits will covet.

He would be an absolute disaster.
He turned PSU into a tournament team in two seasons, after taking them over on the back of a 11-14 season with the program in turmoil.
According to 24/7 he has two consecutive recruiting classes in the top 30 at PSU!! …again this is PSU basketball we're talking about.
He has NBA experience with one of the top franchises in the sport.
He is from Indiana, and has experience recruiting this area from his time at Purdue.

Calling him a disaster hire is harsh.
If ND doesn't get this hire right we have a real chance of falling into complete obscurity as a program.
He isn't a slam dunk hire by any means, but nowhere near a disaster.

I'm open to hearing out better options, but I don't see any realistic options right now better then him.

This Eville dude was a troll during the offensive coordinator search too I wouldn’t even acknowledge anything he posts on any thread. He’s probably the typical ND football IU basketball fan who can’t pick a team.

McDermott seems to be the kind of guy that retires at Creighton

Could've said the same thing about Brey, but all signs point to him taking another job before retirement. He's already been linked to G'Town

Can tell some of you either don't watch much hoops or you are just clueless when it comes to hoops. Shrewsberry is a savant. Just so happens he's at PSU. Dude can flat out coach. Just watch his games. X and O genius

Shrewsberry would be a grand slam. The dude went to Cathedral and was on Butler’s staff during their run. He’s the top of my list.

I still want Sweeney. Idk if he's even being considered anymore, and it certainly could be the biggest failure of the names mentioned. Something about his love for ND and his NBA experience draws me to him.
It's him or Shrewsberry for me. Agreed.

Holtmann would be a good fit. He kept Butler rolling before the lure of big money took him to OSU.

How would we feel about Steve Pikiell? He's getting 5 stars to Rutgers and turned them into a winning program. I can't overstate how difficult that is here. Their facilities are garbage and they're in a recruiting ground that is constantly pillaged by the big dogs. They also just have a loser complex in Piscataway (maybe I am a little biased).

We aren't even going to give Brad Stevens a call? He might be wanting to get back into the college game. Feel like it would be a total home run.

I feel confident that Zona and JR will return. We have Burton coming in next year, that’s it for that class right now. Starling and Lubin need to re-recruited to return most likely. Cormac has a year left in theory but seems like a long shot. Best-case we have 6 scholarship players penciled in before hitting the portal. Worst-case we have 3.

I suppose best, best case would be the new coach gets Dunlap and Friedrichsen to re-commit as well but that seems unlikely.
You forgot Sanders. You’re not alone, so did Brey

It seems unlikely because there hasn't been any smoke...but what I would love about the Pikiell hire is that his teams are consistently rated high in KenPom's defensive metric.
In my opinion, highly rated defensive teams have a better chance at long-term success in this age of college basketball then teams such as Mike Brey's offensive focused (with little to no defense) the last few years.

He has no connection to the Indiana area or even the ACC so it seems unlikely, but of course Brey didn't have any real connection to ND before he was hired either.

It's a good shout. He was a very good coach at Stony Brook as well for many years. I had a few players from my high school play at UAlbany during his time in the American East, and can vouch for his coaching abilities.

Gregg Popovich is from Indiana, Monty Williams sick of the NBA game? - add them to the list as well

I know this was said as a joke, but the Suns do have a new owner.
It's not out of the question that Monty would get fired by the new regime if the Suns were to not make a deep run (which is possible with how stacked the west is)

The main issue other then Monty likely wouldn't want to coach college kids...is that the earliest he would get fired is probably late May if the Suns were to flame out of the playoffs...so that timeline makes it probably impossible.

I forgot that Creighton has Trey Alexander.
Give me Greg McDermott with a TA transfer.

I hope that ND is aggressive and they don't drag their feet. They said they were going to wait until the season is over, their season is over. If ND were still in play for basketball and other schools were looking to poach Brey the story would be out there.

Have we seen anything official (from ND) of who ND is after, who cares if the coach they are after is still playing.

If the coach can get Starling & Lubin to stay that is a huge win; Starling needs to stay in college at least 1 more year. Lubin is going to be good no matter what jersey he is wearing next season.

How about Zona, develop him into a Luke Harangody type of player.

I would also make changes to Purcell Pavilion....too friendly like ND football stadium.

Not a fan of the PSU or OSU coach, I would like them to go after Sweeney from the Mavericks.

He is the President of the Boston Celtics. In what world would leaving that job make any sense?
Yeah, there’s no way he’s coming back to coach in SB, but I would absolutely love it if a miracle occurred.
