I just read on twitter that the UFO/UAP terms automatically blow things out of proportion, and what has likely happened is that the military and other agencies have changed their radars to account for slow-moving objects like the balloon, and now we are seeing and reacting to things that have actually been regular occurrences for a loooooooooooooong time.

Could be foreign agencies sending drones around... could be science experiments sent into the sky by American students. Could be rogue/forgotten US technology just drifting about. Regardless of origin, the most likely possibility seems to be that this was already happening, without incident, for a long time.

The question is why the US is suddenly addressing 'trespassers' with hostility. The easy answer there is that they want to make it look like they know what they're doing lol.

With NORAD and its various sensor systems and platforms having to deal with way more sensor data based on lifting velocity and possibly other filters due to the presence of these balloons, artificial intelligence will become key to managing this data and properly evaluating...
— Tyler Rogoway (@Aviation_Intel) February 12, 2023

This guy has been all over this. Pretty interesting information on his Twitter timeline.

Yes - this is a thread about the radar changes. Pretty informative stuff by this guy.

This and Biden et al. looked like complete IDIOTS on the World Stage for allowing a Spy balloon, they had been tracking for DAYS, fly over ICBM sites and a FRIGGIN B2 base, then exit out to see.

Then Biden comes out acting tough. This is akin to getting your ass kicked, then getting up and shouting tough guy things to the guy that just kicked your ass.

NOTE: This isn't an anti Biden/ Dem vs Rep rant. This is a pointing out how stupid we are being rant. Had Trump or someone else been in office, I would say the same thing. Unless it was REP Luna or Mace... They are rockets and can do whatever they want.

Another Train derailment in SC. From the photo, looks to be tanker cars involved.

What are they seeing from a balloon that they couldn’t just see from a satellite?

OMM, you have any insight on the two latest objects shot down? Reports I've seen sound similar to past encounters of flying objects with no visible propulsionary system, et. Cylindrical and Octagonal in shape. What are these?

Any insight? The last one damn near landed in his yard.

OMM's too busy yelling at the MIB's to get off his lawn to fill us in at this time.

More from the above account.

Great read on the Michigan "balloon"

I've seen this website often. Is it a reputable site for information? Speaking on the above link to TheDrive.com

IE dumped me off the site for a while. So ... silence. (I hear cheering by all)

Unless the military intel community gives us more specifics on the now-famous balloon, all commentary is BS.
Here's what the responsible UFO community thinks at this time:
1. The famous object is a spy balloon from China. (China has admitted this), therefore it has nothing to do with UFOs.
2. This is just another of a very long history of irritating balloon overflights by countries over other countries. The Japanese FUGU balloons over the US in WWII are probably the first famous ones, but the US began longrange spying in the late 1940s before we developed the U2 spyplane. Anyone who thinks that this is particularly unusual doesn't know history.
3. So why? This is speculation: This balloon MIGHT have contained instrumentation of a type which would not work as well at low Earth orbit distances, so that universally-available satellite data could not get. If true, this probably would mean sensors penetrating the surface at that distance and with finer accuracy. Then such data would need to be sent back home by satellite bounce to China. There had also to be some small amount of propulsion ability to hold the balloon over Montana even at that altitude.
4. The government handled this properly. They detected this early on, and immediately (apparently) sent signal jamming radiation at the thing to stop the send-back. Then they waited until the thing moved on before shooting it down over a safe place (water) and still shallow enough to allow easy harvesting of the technology. This seems very well done, and China has feigned being pissed.
5. The balloon MIGHT not have contained much of anything at all. We need to remember that the Chinese Premier has been particularly "political" in his posturing to his people (who are still somewhat pissed at him.) This particular display might have been for non-military reasons --- thus the easy viewing of this one by the American press.
6. Anyone believing that this stupid techno-dance of poke-and-respond has not been going on continuously doesn't understand anything about the cold US/China engagement over many years. Our military and theirs are very experienced in coping with these stupidities. It is the publics who are not. China can corral its press; we cannot. This reminds me a bit of the dances between the US and Soviet nuclear subs where they would "test" one anothers' Rules of Engagement by swimming so close that "You could hear the Russians when they flushed their toilets."
7. The American press will now for a brief while put forward every odd balloon like thing that someone reports and glom it all together to create fears and clicks. These other stories will have nothing to do with the China/Montana incident (almost suredly.)

So what the He!l could a serious reason be for such a blatant display? It's really hard to say without more info. Our recovery analysis will tell us for sure what if anything the Chinese were trying to measure. IF they thought that they could get away with fine detailed subterranean mapping of the missile sites, MAYBE that tells them what sort of orbital nuke strike it would take to fry the base electronics. I.E. how much blocking Earth do we likely have here to add to the techno-hardening that we'd add to our mechanisms. Even then ....

Mike thanks for the post. But I think most people are less curious bout the Chinese spy balloon and more curious about the three unidentified objects that were shot down since the balloon. Point number seven in your post suggests the American MSM are just clinging to any story for clicks. However the US Government's actions to quickly shoot down the objects (which they confirmed) seems a far cry from being manufactured headlines so the 24/7 news cycle has subject matter on which to speak in order obtain said clicks/views. They, the Government, were patient with the balloon and not so much with the more recent objects. Why?

Who knows? The Michigan object was almost ludicrously just an escaped homemade balloon. (rubbery blackish car-sized blundering thing with lots of little strings/ropes hanging down? --- not much of a hi-tech object to me, and certainly not a UFO --- which is my area of study.)

Humans at much lower USAF posts influenced by the media themselves? Pilots report. Ask if they should take it down. Officer in charge says if safe shot, yes. They do. It's happened before in the UFO files. (rarely)

Did I miss where they confirmed visual description?

And if these are just homemade balloons, why are we sending $400,000 missiles at them? lol

I would like to introduce you to the USA government, they are willing to pay 29 grand for a hammer, 400000 grand is cheap for a missile to shoot down a dangerous balloon.

Yeh, you apparently did miss the description. (as I described it.)
And yes, if the object would be classed as a flight safety hazard, they might shoot it down.
And yes, they did classify it as a flight safety hazard, so they shot it down.
And yes, they might not want random balloons flying around over conspiracy-crazed civilian populations anyway.

So LOL away.

Always great to discuss things with such collegial correspondents on IE.

Because SHOCK AND AWE. We have to teach these amateur balloonists a lesson they won't forget.

Damn inflation. Back in the 70's the government only paid $75 each for those $5 hammers.

What else are we gonna do with our arsenal of air-air missiles lol. Did they say which one they used? Sidewinders have been around for like 60-70 years.

So are we to believe that these balloons only just now started appearing in the skies? These balloons that pose enough danger to flight safety that they must be shot out of the sky? A tweak in radar filters suddenly caused us to be able to see them, in which our response is to light up the sky like The 4th of July every week from now until who knows when? Or is just a convenient time to begin reporting and shooting in order to provide a warning? a smokescreen/distraction? tv ratings? what?

Honestly, I'd rather be talking about Ohio and the economy and a million other things, but daily, I'm seeing notifications and reports and Press Secretary responses about this stuff. WTH are they doing and why?

Judging by the tones and diversionary comments in most of the threads, I judge that IE is malingering a bit here in March, so I'll toss out something to possibly amuse (or terrify.)

There has been a Facebook and Twitter dump recently about Japanese Killer Lab Robots destroying 29 lab scientists in a Japanese Lab, before we humans finally gained control by disassembling them --- the last while it desperately was contacting a satellite to try to repair itself and go on living. We won. It was a great moment in Human History. The story came from a six year old talk given to a California-style conference by the notorious spewer of crap, Linda Moulton Howe. Elon Musk was then promptly linked to the story saying that the thing he feared the most was the Artificial Intelligence Revolution, as they would be smarter, faster, stronger --- just totally better --- than us.

One of my brothers got wind of this and sent the story on, with a degree of concern. The following is my response to him, FWIW:

The robot side of the story:
Stay in room, contact satellite, target your end, THE End.

... play incidental music from Japanese Killer Seizure Robots.
