This isn't someone who has been on the national radar since 8th or 9th grade. He's not some NFL HOF son or anyone's legacy. The way this went national hot and heavy was not expected. The people around him knew he was good, but no one was really expecting where it is at. His offer list and book of offers has gone far beyond ND and the Big Ten region, obviously, and that was something that I'm not sure Scott or the people around him were prepared for.
That was not intended to be an indictment of the young man or his family. More so an observation of the situation.

My push back would be, I think we're short selling how far along in the process he is. He visited OSU, Miami, and USC during the season (while also not visiting ND). A lot of these programs have been recruiting him for close to a year now. He's been getting big boy recruited for long enough to know what NIL is and how those school are playing it. Hence his top 8 includes mostly NIL schools. He also was outspoken enough to tell an ND media outlet that ND wasn't recruiting him hard enough (paraphrasing that a bit). ND then throws the kitchen sink at him. He sets a commitment date and we're off...

That is until UGA offers, he wants to take a visit. And, now the commitment is being pushed back. I have no problems with this, at all. I would just say that a majority of ND commitments that stick don't look this way. That is all. Scott could be a Stephon Tuitt. Or he could be a Peyton Bowen. I have no idea. It's just not the traditional recruitment.

it very well might be due to NIL but I feel like its disingenuous to this young man, and to all recruits, to simply assume that every time they decide to slow things down, it's based solely on chasing a bag.

Didn't he just recently receive a UGA offer? If I was offered by the B2B National Champs, it would catch my attention, too.

The dude is a five star, 11 months away from early signing day, and is picking up more and more offers. I wouldn't have been surprised if he took a beat pre NIL era.

It's a mature decision to take a moment and gather all the data before making a decision, especially this early in the process. This doesn't spell doom and gloom for the Irish. If anything, if he does commit later, it'll be a more solid commitment than before.
Stop bringing a level headed clear thinking approach to this board.

He could also be seen as a we learned form Bowen situation. The paid sites imo sound like they are pushing him to take these visits now. We want this rule of no officials to stay but we also don’t want to be played and you take 10 unofficial visits.

I want Scott in this class badly but the staff is doing one hell of a job recruiting players across the board. Some players are different than Carr and that’s ok. The staff will continue to be in his ear a lot unless they see things changing than I expect them to switch their focus.

When you said "unusual volatility", I was agreeing and took a stab as to explaining why.

Even with all of this being said, his season ended in November in the state semifinals and he's gone into basketball, but the national portion of his recruiting has taken on additional momentum recently. It's rather odd that he said he was tired of being inundated with communication, ND was giving him space, then he says ND isn't in contact as much and suddenly Al Washington is a fixture at Chicago Catholic League January Basketball fixtures.

It's definitely weird and I agree with you on that. I do think that despite the big boy recruiting has most certainly ramped up a notch since the turn of the New Year. It's a lot for some of our snowflake fans, imagine what it's like being at the center of it at 17 years old.

St. Ignatius hosts Brother Rice. Should be a good one. And I hope Ignatius gives them the business.

There’s a funny rumor on the Michigan 247 board that Washington showed up to Scott’s mom’s place of employment uninvited and she is very upset he would do that.

Apparently she called a number thinking it was the NCAA demanding to speak to Freeman about the situation. Instead, she called some UM fans place of employment. When she realized it was the wrong # she hung up. They did some digging and are assuming the recruit was Scott. Only reason why they’re assuming is because her last name is not the same as his, but she did have a Chicago area code.

Loy locked the thread on II saying he doesn’t believe it’s true, but the UM thread is still up if you want a laugh.

I'm really starting to wonder if opiods are more popular than I thought. Not just an IE thing, but the blanket "recruiting sux, I don't care, wake me up on NSD" is taking years off my life.

#WeMissDale #FreeDale #DaleManEra?
Wait. What happened with Dale? Is he permabanned?

Welp if they are at the basketball game tonight then it didn’t happen or didn’t matter. If they aren’t then kind of a hilarious fuck up. I mean if Al Washington is that level of a dog on the trail, then I am willing to eat the L under the safe assumption that the commitment level of that nonsense will lead to plenty of W’s. Also somebody calling for the NCAA or Marcus Freeman but getting generic Michigan Fan’s employer sounds impossible because whenever I put into google “Walmart” it gives me a local walmart number not one in Ann Arbor (the whore).

I guess you never know but this certainly sounds pretty implausible. In addition, Scott is supposed to be visiting ND over the weekend which is another cog in the storyline.

Stop stabbing it’s not working. A St Ignatius Chicago 5 star recruit for ND is akin to a 5 star Mobile AL recruit for Alabama. You land him or sit around scratching yourself and writing lengthy posts making excuses for not closing this kid early.

You want Nattys then you close 5 Stars.

Has it been reported where else he wants to take other visits?
I haven’t seen anything about scheduled visits. But, Loy seems to indicate UGA and UF could be two since those are recent offers.

I don’t think it’s a matter of recruiting him too hard or not.

Clearly in announcing his decision date he was going to pick ND.

We clearly were favored but he has now opened up his recruitment.

ND simply can’t offer what UGA can or other SEC programs. ND will rarely close 5 stars. Big issue.

We can’t offer what UGA or Bama offers. True. Few can. At some positions maybe LSU has a better track record. Pure bag-chasers may prefer A&M.

Beyond that? Florida? Florida sucks.

The only reason anyone should pick any other SEC school over Notre Dame is if they want to stay close to home or they don’t want to play school. Neither seems like a strike against us here.

Florida has one of the most aggressive NIL games out there which is how they're trying to get past being bad on the field. Same with Miami. They are throwing money at the problem and hoping it works.

Loy saying he doesn’t think Scott will make it to campus but didn’t say why.
We just got pounded with like a foot of snow yesterday(if his trip was planned for today).
I set my golf sim up at work and that may have been the worst driving conditions I've ever faced.
4x4 lifted beast of a truck was still sketchy when all you have is tire tracks in 10+ inches.

Get a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks for your truck. It's all about the tires in snow. The skinnier & stickier the better.
