What’s with the huge discrepancy btw On3/Rivals and 247. Do we think 247 is likely to bump him up later or that he is ranked to high by On3/Rivis?
I don't see Scott as a 5 star. Think he belongs more in the 51-100 range. Obviously you still take that and are ecstatic about landing him.

Even if this ends with Scott committing to ND at some point before the season, this will be a long ride.
Agreed. Won't stop other teams from trying. Positive is he's put out publicly that he doesn't enjoy the recruiting process, so that should help out here. Then again, if he takes a visit with anyone's grandma, brother, just to check out campuses or whatever stupid excuse, I'll check out of this recruitment mentally.

This is true of everyone, everywhere. Past, present and now more than ever before.

Not necessarily. We didn't hear a peep from Vernon, Draky, Jagusah, etc.

This would be a Keeley, P. Bowen recruitment if this guy is Irish Jan. 31.

I'd like to be a fly on the wall when Freeman and Washington went to visit what did they do to get him locked up this quick?

You have to keep recruiting all of your verbals as a coaching staff regardless. It holds true for the guys that are national recruits and holds even truer with NIL now being a factor. The staff can only be honest with players, recruit them after they verbal as if they are still uncommitted and don't make any promises they can't deliver on.

I presume you'd be correct about Scott's recruitment in this respect, but I'm not going to necessarily assume he's the kind of person Keeley and Bowen are, nor do I really care.

FWIW, in his film review, Prister mentioned that ND was "unlikely to lose Scott due to NIL" and that they were "invested in Scott".

Sounds like they've learned from Bowen, Moore, and Keeley that there are some necessary evils in today's recruiting.

Amazing how we went from having no shot with Scott to having him likely commit within a week. Freeman must walk on water, because giving credit to Washington is totally illogical.
You can't fool me, Driskell.

Did those people still exist? I thought there was a consensus among ND fans that this was an upgrade.
Lot of doubters out there questioning whether or not it was an upgrade because of where we ended in the '23 recruiting class, rankings-wise. I think they were genuinely expecting a top-3 finish in this current age of NIL.

The recruiting does appear better. Not sure "we are shopping down a different aisle" or "Gap Closing.".... we need to close more Top 50 kids to have legit Natty chances. I think most fans expectations are 2 losses or less next season (in season). That would be a significant accomplishment in putting ND back in the Top 10 discussions.... No dumb losses. But we need to close 5 stars. We lost 3 possible 5 stars last cycle and that sucked!

Or as Driskell would say to Freeman: "Do Better!"

This recruiting stuff is like watching 365 days of Musical Chairs. Kind of insane. But of course I post about too...

I mean if ND puts it all together with Hartmann then I could see good chances at plenty of Top 100 kids decommitting elsewhere and coming to ND.

I hate thinking about if ND didn't lose to Marshall and Stanford every day...what things would be different.

Did they really pivot or have they just continued to do what was working? I mean, they did just sign a very good class.

I don't really know if I believe anything has changed. Or at least anything of significance. Have they continued to perfect the ND pitch to combat upfront NIL concerns? Sure. Do I think they're throwing money at these young men, upfront. Most certainly not.

As far as transfers go. Sam Hartman won't have to wait a single day until it's a money making opportunity for him. Same goes for most transfers, as they're moving to a better situation at ND, than where they came from. For JJP, he's moving to a better playing situation, likely with some guaranteed spot on the weekly depth chart as a part of it.

As far as recruiting goes, ND is always going to attract talent. It always has and always will. Nothing has changed. The only difference is the man in charge is a dedicated recruiter. Which is going to bring more consistent results. Money was always part of the equation for these young men and will continue to be so. Freeman and his staff being more dedicated to combating that time and time again is the difference. Not sure I think anything has changed just more of the same from him. Freeman was hired to be a dynamic recruiter. And he's doing just that.
