Shaun Davis of IB inteviewed Scott yesterday.
Scott admits that ND is recruiting him well, but could be doing it stronger. There are few people in his network, through school and personal relationships, that are trying to push him to ND. Gets the feeling that Scott is getting a bit exhausted with the process, and could shut it down at some point and not drag it out.
NIL is part of the conversation and his recruitment, but his family and mom especially, are pushing education. Bigger points of emphasis that he will focus on his coaching staff, culture and fit (which every recruit says pretty much).

He also said some stuff that’ll make the Al Washington is blowing it crowd mad. But there has to be more to the story than what Justin said in that interview.Shaun Davis of IB inteviewed Scott yesterday.

It’s a boilerplate response, which I understand bc if a kid just said “I’m going to whomever pays more”, he would her grilled. We hear this every year.
Why should ND settle for Ohio State’s scraps? That goes for recruits and coaches.I dont want to become a fire Al Washington guy but I mean come on.
There are many reasons for this - many of these limitations ND fans want to deny. Why should ND settle for Ohio State’s scraps? That goes for recruits and coaches.
If not landing Top 100 kids and 5 stars is a reason for termination at ND then there are a few position coaches that could be canned. ND is simply not going to get the top kids consistently with all the programs limitations and NIL.I dont want to become a fire Al Washington guy but I mean come on.
Spot on, Lion. Freeman, Golden and Washington are having the actual conversations with Justin. If they are getting the impression he's burned out and want to give him room based on speaking to him directly, that's the best play. I don't know how you call a recruit every single day and not come off as annoying. What can you possibly talk about every 24 hours?
"Hey big guy, any corn in your shit today?"
Exhausted and shutting it down soon for the sake of doing so sounds like an eventual flip later on.
I think it's this. ND knows they can't provide the NIL that he's looking for. Only so many hours in the day. Prioritize those hours in ways that might actually result in favorable outcomes for other players. If that means Washington only communicates once a week or once every two weeks, so be it.It might be true that Washington needs to give more effort, even if Scott is exhausted by the attention. It might also be true that Freeman and Washington know that pressing for Scott is a fool's errand at this point.
I'm not advocating it but Mike Elston might be looking for a job in a couple of weeks. If people here don't want Al Washington anymore, who do we want to replace him? Most guys can make a hell of a lot more money recruiting DL in the SEC with way less restrictions academically and a lot more runway with NIL shenanigans, JUCO access and the portal. Washington attended a Catholic HS and Boston College. He checks a couple of culture boxes in that respect. He's a young guy.
Viable targets to replace him?
I personally do not understand all this hate towards Washington...the DL performed decently and had some push in most games...

It's even weirder that it's seemingly over a junior in high school. the IB army found their next scapegoat though, so don't expect the venom to stop no matter what he does.
Do you think that ship has probably sailed?I'm not advocating it but Mike Elston might be looking for a job in a couple of weeks.
Washington and O'Leary are the two assistants I'm lowest on, but I think the bold is a big part of it.It's even weirder that it's seemingly over a junior in high school. the IB army found their next scapegoat though, so don't expect the venom to stop no matter what he does.
Maybe Nick Eason? I'm not sure if he'd leave Clemson, though. If people here don't want Al Washington anymore, who do we want to replace him? I'm just saying that people might have a ready answer for your hypothetical soon.Do you think that ship has probably sailed?
Top guy for me is Charlie Partridge from Pitt. He's been a DC, HC at FAU, coached JJ Watt at Wisconsin and is the best of both worlds in terms of developing DL and recruiting. He has very deep connections in Florida. He's probably making somewhere in the range of $535-550K.
However, I don't think it is time to hand Washington a pink slip based on some wet pant whining and irrational panic on a message board.

Let me guess, IB was left with egg on their face because they publicly declared he was going to choose ND?Washington and O'Leary are the two assistants I'm lowest on, but I think the bold is a big part of it.
If you watch Driskell long enough because you hate yourself and need the content, you can pick up on how they spin a narrative. I don't know what really happened, but Al became public enemy #1 when Driskell became convinced Al and exclusively Al - and not anything to do with Ohio State or their legendary DL coach doing a good job recruiting him - is the reason ND didn't get Jason Moore. Nothing Al could ever do going forward would get him back in the good graces.
