There is a big difference between sitting a kid down and saying "you are never going to play here, so I think you should go elsewhere" and just pulling the schollie.

I'm fine with the former... I think most would not be fine with the latter.

The issue of course is that you sell these kids on the value of the degree before they sign, so some of these kids are going to be OK with waiting it out till they get their degree. I guess you have to recruit kids who are good enough that they wont be happy if they arent playing.

I wonder what they are considering so significant because to me, that number is like 20+.

Just based on what the staff seems to be doing they are expecting at least 10.

EDIT: I should say 10 more since Wilkins and Lacey are already gone.

I think anything over 10 would be surprising to me. However, I don't remember how many guys transfer out on a normal year.

I can't imagine it is anyone on the 2 deep.

It’s been like 15 on average the last two years by the time we’re done. So actual December entries less, but that is like 8 then if you cut it in half so 10 doesn’t shock me.

I wouldnt be surprised if Rees doesnt like him since he is BKellys golden boy and no one disliked BD more then Kelly
Bk didn't like Sampson either.

I think when Sampson spilled the beans on how BK dropped the ball in the Tyson Ford recruitment and Freeman had to come in and save the day, BK told his staff that he would fire them if they talked to Sampson.

I don't like it.
I don't like it, but I support the coaching staff doing it. Bama, UGA, OSU, and a plethora of other schools "process" kids all the time. We also can't offer JUCO's and can't take every undergraduate transfer, so we might as well do something that all the other schools do.

This is an inevitability if you want to compete in major college football. I’m good with the players being able to transfer and to make money but with that comes a more “pro” approach to roster management. You’re basically on one year contracts/scholarships.

Notre Dame has to take this approach if they want to continue to compete at the highest level. We’ll see if they have the stomach for it. I understand those that don’t like it.

I would expect most of this is on the defensive side of the ball + OL (which we normally see). There are barely any WRs to move on from. QB we’ve discussed. RB maybe Tyree. Likely 1 TE which we’ve expected.

Lea gonna have some pickings of his former guys.

There's a big difference between telling graduates they so not have a place on next year's team and cutting people who have not graduated. We've done the former for years and have steadfastly avoided the latter. I hope it stays that way. "Everybody does it" is a shitty reason and besides, everybody does not do it.

Semantics. Sure we’ve “encouraged” let’s say instead of cut undergraduates to seek elsewhere. This is just like the Jack Nickel, Sedrick Irvin stuff.

What don't you like this is what you do if you want to win, if you have a guy whose 2 years into the program or a Junior and barely plays, you recruit over him. Simple as that
Sure, recruit over them. But don't sell guys on the ND degree and try and strong arm them into leaving so they aren't dead weight on your roster.

I don't think anyone would ever be cut or have a scholarship pulled. That would be shocking.

I think it is more sitting kids down and telling them "you are a scout team lifer here. We know you want to get on the field, so we will help you find a new landing spot if you want to move on." If a kid is happy with that and wants to stay to get a degree then transfer out, I am sure he would be allowed to do so.

I wouldn’t imagine many if any (hopefully) leaving this year Freeman recruited. That’s the reality of a coaching change where no one liked the guy who left enough to follow or feel the desire to leave when he did.

But not as a counter, otherwise this new roster management technique doesn't work. Will be interested to see how ND opts to keep such kids on scholarship once it's made clear they won't see the field for us.

I don't think anyone has any problem with this. But agree we shouldn't be selling the "40-year-decision" and then aggressively processing kids after three semesters when it's clear they're never going to see the field. A medical is a good compromise, in some cases.

How many kids leaving are we thinking are getting processed or encouraged elsewhere by the coach that actually recruited them? Let’s be honest we’re asking almost the entire staff really to cash checks they didn’t write. There will be a few but we are still one year removed from a staff overhaul

Maybe they get them on track to graduate early.

1) I have no idea. If the transfers are a bunch of sophomores and juniors who don't have a degree but have made significant progress toward one that would be an indication, I think.

2) It really doesn't matter to me if it was Lance Taylor and Mike Elston sitting on their family couch.

I'd take off Bauman and doubt they move on from Kiser/Bertrand, but overall that looks close to accurate.
