Is the Pratt speculation just based on the assumption Fritz was leaving or is there some other reason to think Pratt will transfer?

That's what he believes, or is that what he is hearing from the ND side?

Kind of reported than kind of back tracked

I would think Fritz possibly leaving could have played a part but I mean a chance to level up from Tulane.

Mike Singer on the on3 board:

"So yes, Notre Dame has a legit shot here. When he officially enters the transfer portal Monday (new NCAA rule), I expect Notre Dame to be in a lot of contact with him and will look to get him on campus for a visit.

Multiple connected sources tell me that Card is very interested in Notre Dame. And the Irish want a transfer QB."

If you have a shot at both Card and Leary, I think you have to go Card. Three years of eligibility left verses one is huge. Ideally, he does so well he’s only there for two years and then we have a Minchey-Carr QB battle

My goodness,… perfection
I don't but it's going to be interesting to see how ND plays this. Do they go all out for a Hudson Card when there is surely more to hit the portal?
They have to push hard right??? Right??

Added what you left out

FWIW, Loy says three years of eligibility but I don’t see it. COVID year, then played in ‘21 and ‘22. Maybe I’m missing something.

I think you go with whomever you think is better (provided ND has the option). Eligibility isn't a big deal to me. Having another college-aged body in the QB room next year is a big deal though.

The Covid year would have been his redshirt year.

Loy is incorrect. He played in enough games in 2021 to not receive the traditional redshirt. He's a redshirt sophomore with two years remaining.

I go with whoever they think is the best to lead the team, right now. If that is Card then the added eligibility is a bonus. But, if it were me, I'd just be focused on who can win in 2023.

This is fair. I just look at what ND has now and 2024 seems like it’ll be such a loaded year on both sides of the ball that they are legit contenders. Uncertainty at QB doesn’t necessarily squash those hopes, but just something to have to likely fill again through the portal unless they really trust Buchner or Minchey.

Doesn’t the COVID year automatically give you an extra year?

So, even if he plays two more traditional years, he still is eligible for one more season because of the COVID year?

So confused.

Two things.

1. I think one could make a very good argument that the future is much brighter, at QB, than the present. So, most of my energy or concern would be on just that, the present. Because the calvary is one the way.

2. In general, I don't really even want them thinking that far ahead or making any pre-conceived notions about the depth chart until it's in front of us. For example, what if you take Card for 2023 and by 2024 Minchey is just better. Or, Carr is the real deal and ready to take over. I think the whole QB room needs to have less certainty too it. More competition and less certainty. Gone are the days of so and so is the QB for the next 2-3 years and then it's so and so's turn. IMO, that breeds complacency and that's how we got to this spot. We were recruiting space fillers between the "it" QB's. The problem is, those "it" guys never hit. And the space fillers ended up being the starters. Some turned out pretty good and some did not. But, none were as good as they needed to be.

The COVID year could technically give you a sixth year, but only if you have already used a redshirt. The plan of it all was not to have any player lose a year of eligibility, so the "five years to play four" still holds up. In the long run, it may not have been the best decision, but then again, some conferences only played half a schedule.

In Card's case, his redshirt year was his COVID year, so that year is wiped entirely off the books. It is easier to just say that in 2021, Card was a true freshman would didn't redshirt. So, he's a true sophomore that still has his redshirt eligible if he needs it.

When looking at eligibility, everyone needs to look at the COVID year and say that it never happened. No years exhausted.

Watching a little bit of Card film.

If he were to come to South Bend, there would be a hell of a battle between Card and Buchner. I'd probably give the edge to Card because Buchner has played about 5 minutes of football in the last 5 years.

I know nothing, Jon Snow, about Hudson Card but give me him.

Texas QB, experience, basically forced out by a Manning and a stud QB. Have a good feeling about this one. ND better pay up.
