He posted this yesterday I believe...

One of the Irish podcasts put a side by side blind comparison to McNamara's stats and Pyne's and they were pretty identical. Biggest difference is Drew isn't coming off a major knee injury. I'm not saying we stick with Drew in 2023, just saying I don't see a huge upside.

Loy says ND isn’t talking to anyone who’s not in the portal. Right…..

Regardless of stats his size and arm strength have to be far superior to Pynes. Pyne has padded his numbers with dinks and doinks almost all season. ND has more weapons to make a QB look good. Question is do we have a beat on someone better? Hopefully they can pull another rabbit out of their hat. I would think ND would be stop #1 for any good QB with confidence in their skills. When we get someone hopefully Drew then guys the portal.

"Program sources have indicated a willingness inside Notre Dame to rethink how much the football program can get involved with college football’s analog to free agency and how quickly the institution must move on potential Irish targets."

FWIW, Pete's article today confirmed that ND is working to change it's approach to the portal.
Good! Anyone at ND who may be reading this, please take my suggestion - anyone with a ND/Stanford/NW/Vandy/Duke/UVA/WF/Ivy offer out of HS should be able to transfer to ND as an undergrad.

Alright. This is exactly the kind of institutional support the team has lacked. This feels like a real step in the right direction. This is kool-aid powder.

Yeah, Mike at ISD implied something similar that discussions were being made.

Frankly, I don't like it, but I think ND really needs to re-examine both it's NIL stance and it's transfer policy.

Not just for the fact that it keeps ND competitive in football, but just...ND's transfer policy seems really outdated in general. A LOT of ND's academic policies seem outdated.

It is pretty obvious Marcus Freeman loves ND and has embraced it in a way BK never did. The way he speaks of the university and the type of people it attracts, and his desire to pull the community together…have to wonder if the powers that be dont recognize how good this man can be for this institution for a long time and arent willing to consider supporting him in ways that they would not support BK because of everything MF is that BK wasn’t. He has showed an incredible amount of character since taking over and is what it would look like if you could create in a lab an ambassador and figurehead to lead this football program for the next many years.

Hope not. Freeman probably noticed all these offensive studs Riley landed from the portal (primarily Williams) and thinking he needs ND to get with the program. Only way to win a title going forward is to master the NIL game and be a great coach. Riley is nailing it. Fisher not so much. Interested to see if any real changes come about for this for ND.

Could be that.

I think Freeman has a few things going for him.

Kelly did not get off on the right foot when he got to ND and I can imagine the BoT and other admin were hesitant to put their faith and assets into his program. Keep in mind, the first two seasons, ND went 16-10 and we had to endure the Declan Sullivan tragedy as well as the Lizzy Seeberg all in the span of 2 years. Then, the second ND finally sees some legitimate success under Kelly, what does he do? Interviews for another job. How could the university put their faith in him at that point?

Freeman is just flat out far more likable, charismatic and I think he has a clear vision for ND that Kelly never really seemed to have. He would coach-speak his way around it, but with Freeman, you can tell he's being genuine and isn't leaving the fanbase in the dark. He knows what needs to be done and I'm pretty sure he's going to be persistent that ND does what's necessary to make sure he and his staff are best equipped to compete in this new CFB landscape.

Couldn't agree more. It's all about the salesman. Kelly just sold the facts. MF sells the facts with emotion and passion.

I don’t know if it could have been said any better!

Biggest bunch of BS in that Athletic article is that “some in the institution” don’t want someone to transfer in and get the same degree that someone who spent four years there. FOH, you’re just pissed you didn’t get to milk them for hundreds of thousands of dollars to get that degree. How many transfers are going to even qualify to get their degree in a year without intensive work. Such elitist bullshit. We’ve got games to win bitches, open up those damn floodgates!!!

Yep. I've come to grips with this. What's disappointing about it is that we've seen, too, what doors ND has opened via football for guys like Chris Zorich and Robert Hughes in the past.

I mean this with complete sincerity—if all this is true, then losing to USC how we did likely has a better outcome for the program than a win would have.

Haven't read the article, but on the pod, they made it sound like it was the Marshall loss that made them realize they need a different approach when they realized Marshall had a billion transfers.
