Collingsworth and Garrett? I've found them both good at their jobs.
I knew that Jac would be at least OK at play-by-play, but originally had doubts about Garrett on color --- but he does his homework and has head-coach detailed insights which I like. I like to see how the inside thinks, and don't care about rollicking entertainers with my football.

I've enjoyed the commentary as much or better than any since the Mayock era.

I don't hate Garrett but Collingsworth is tough. He's just not ready. He should be doing sideline or half time stuff.

The broadcast is just kind of bush league right now. If you're going to be breaking in a new play-by-play guy like Collingsworth, you need to at least match him up with an old vet that can carry the broadcast. Garrett is new to this too. I don't think it's unlistenable like some, but it's just like a C-.

Part of the reason ND hired Freeman was to bring an edge to this program that has had a kind of boring, anesthetized image for the past 30 years. A fresher NBC broadcast would only help in bring that further along.

Collinsworth is fine. Garrett is sort of flat and I think he tends to conflate the pro game with the college game (which is natural given his career, I suppose). Cracked me up a few weeks ago when we got the ball with like 90 seconds to go in the half and one timeout and he seemed to suggest Pyne could just march us down the field with a few quick out passes like you'd expect an NFL QB to do.

Mostly though I just want a color guy who wants to be here and actually understands Notre Dame. I don't really get that sense from him.

The problem is I bet it’s gonna be really hard to get a good play by play guy and I bet that’s why they went with Jac. You’re found at best 7 ND games and other than that what can you do? SNF is filled, no NBA, NHL, MLB, NCAAM.

I'm a bit testy because my best friend just joined the Convent and her mother and I are still grieving. But even outside of that, I'd disapprove of the kids dressing up in faux habits. There's just nothing good coming from that, even if it's not in mockery.

this reminds me of when my friends and I were driving back to the dorms after midnight, and we saw a full on friar, with the robe, the rope-belt, everything, walking down Angela. I remember saying "if we went literally anywhere else to college that would literally be the trippiest shit we've ever seen"

Similarly, only on an ND fan site would anyone have strong feelings on 21st century monasticism

Amen.

I think Tirico + Garrett would have been fine. Garrett has decent insights. It's nothing special, but he isn't terrible. I do feel like he gets a little too amped when ND's opponent is doing well, but that might just be my perception.

I like Jac as a sideline/halftime guy, but he isn't ready for being the ND play-by-play guy.

The problem is that NBC doesn't have many play-by-play people on staff for football since they only broadcast two games (at most) a week. But, they should value the ND contract more than putting a legacy kid in the booth when he isn't ready. I'd love for them to go get someone competent from ESPN or FOX that is doing their 3rd best game of the week and give them the ND gig.

I can live with Collinsworth - he is learning and I think he has improved as the season has gone on.

I don't like Garrett at all. I don't think he is able to communicate his football knowledge to the viewer very well. He comes off as not having a good understanding of the college game and he is soooo dry. I don't need someone that tries to be more entertaining than the game, but JG actually takes away from the excitement of the game with his lack of connecting to the audience. Of the last three or four color guys NBC has had for ND games he is by far the worst one.

I actually wish NBC would just drop this neutrality nonsense. It's ND's channel, treat it like that. Put a former ND player in the booth for a segment every game to let them pitch ND and interject LETS GO in between interview questions. It's college football, make it fun. Show the students more. Turn up the on-field and crowd mics. It doesn't have to be G rated all the time.

I still cringe when I think about the 90's and early 2000's halftime show with that guy that always wore a cardigan and shirt and tie, sitting at a wooden desk with all the wood paneling on the set. It looked like he should be talking about polo not football.

Should have PIIHB first. Now you’ve lost your chance.

Mayock was excellent. I'd take him back in a minute.

Have also really enjoyed the road games of ours that Orlovsky has done the last couple of years.

Orlovsky has grown on me. He's much better in the booth imo than he is at a talkshow table. He should've tried for an color spot when all the shuffling was going around last year.

Lot of people don't like Dan Orlovsky (though I don't understand that at all.)
He is QB-smart, analyzes offenses superbly and defenses pretty good, and is full of energy.
I see no "southern bias" in him (naturally) and no OSU/MI bias either.
He's actually quite humble.... self-deprecating ... not afraid to make fun of himself.
I've enjoyed every broadcast I seen of his. (despite the apparent minority opinion that this is.)

Number one comment I have gotten from Clemson fans today - "How can you stand to listen to those announcers every week...They're terrible!"
Everyone I talked to has now realized that they have some issues on offense that need fixing. I found out that they have a OC that calls plays on 1st and 2nd and another that calls plays on 3rd and they all are fed up with the offensive coaches especially Streeter. They are all pissed about Dabo hiring from within.... and they all want DJ benched. THey knew that was a problem all season.

The majority of them however absolutely cannot wrap their hands around the DL getting manhandled and they all commented on Estime and how punishing he was.

Orlovsky is a good broadcaster people just hate him because he's forced to be the contrarian on first take/get up.

Are people seriously mad at a bunch of college kids wearing nun uniforms.......jfc. They were taking selfies with priests at the game lmfao.

Guy who uses "jfc" isn't offended by kids dressing up as nuns, more news at 9.

I'm evangelical, so I don't think dressing as nuns is sacrilegious. Not sure what the official Catholic take on this is.

Yes, they are all done with this offense and DJ. Most of them fully hope Klubnik will get the starts going forward and are really frustrated that Dabo pulled him out after one series. They think he ruined the confidence of two QBs Saturday night.

Some are also afraid that Dabo will bring Jeff Scott back and they hated him the first time around.

I am more impressed with Miller.
Not a good look for a little pussy to pull out the double barrel with cameras rolling. Clemson guy would have been suspended for hitting a little girl like that. Does he do that in the parking lot? Not impressed

Considering they were literally taking selfies with priests at the game.....probably fine. Lol.
