What obvious results? Shitty special teams play resulting in a loss to an inferior team and getting runoff the field by a top tier team? That’s Kelly’s entire ND carrier in a nutshell.

Now, if LSU beats Bama tomorrow it’s a different conversation.

Couldn’t agree more. The whole “Irish fans didn’t appreciate what they had” is a bit off base. We would get routinely run off the field when we played top 10 teams. Most players didn’t seem to have much of any relationship with him. And we all know about his seemingly lazy recruiting while at ND

Good question! I simply went on the various websites and made two columns those Notre Dame fans that were totally butt hurt like little bitches that Kelly would leave for money and wouldn’t admit how he was the HC that turned the program around and was a consistent winner And since he never won a national title he was a failure at Notre Dame and not admitting the hurdles at Notre Dame. Versus those they were not whiny and we’re fine with the state of the program That Kelly got us to being a top five consistent winner but not winning a national title.I added both comes up and it came out that 95% of the Notre Dame fans were butt hurt and didn’t want to give Kelli his due as A top-tier coach. I’m sure now many of those fans realize Kelly did add a lot of value now that Freeman is clearly struggling.

I hope that explains my methodology.
Recalling the reddit shitstorm, it was a good mix of ND fans and SEC fans.

But the difference is that ND fans were very much justified in their spewing.

Brian Kelly did bring ND out of a bad place, but let's not get it twisted. He had to dig himself out of a hole that he created in 2016. And in addition, he ducked having to dig himself out of another hole he created this year with the holes on the roster.

Kelly was able to develop some consistency between '17 and '20, but the cracks were forming in '21 but thanks to Coan and game-breakers like Hamilton and Williams, as well as having a very manageable schedule, ND was able to skate by to 11 wins.

This year, ND doesn't have that and it's because of Kelly. And on top of that, Kelly left ND a week before finding out if ND would make it into the CFP. He mentions how much he loved those kids he recruited. Yet, the dude straight up lied to a kid's parents and left that team high and dry when there was a very real possibility they would be playing for it all.

So all in all, I'd say ND fans were well within their right to throw shade at Kelly.

Someone else came up with this analogy, but it's appropriate. Kelly is like ND's ex who left us with syphilis (the offense).

BK has 2 QB's for the 2023 class if I am reading correctly? 1 will eventually flip or transfer as well as having Howard. It will be hard to keep those 3 happy.

I think BK reached his ceiling at ND- he was never going to win a NC there and I don't foresee him winning a NC at LSU. Do any of you really think he can win vs Kirby Smart or Nick Saban?

The flavor is good right now at LSU, go beat Bama today and I might take a sip of the Kool-Aid.

In the long run ND is better off with Freeman, I don't think Kelly will last his full 10 year contract at LSU.

I’ll continue to poop on BK, and add:

If he wins a natty at LSU, how extravagant is that when you really think about it?

We are literally only two years removed from Ed Orgeron winning there with one of the best offenses in CFB history, and about a decade removed from Les freaking Miles winning a title there.

At the end of the day, is BK a program savior, or is he Larry Coker?

All I know is that Kelly made some great off season moves by bringing in lots of studs in the portal at LSU while Freeman and Rees thought their QB room was just fine.....

He started with just 38 scholarship players at LSU and Freeman took over Kelly's Top 5 program.

All things being equal, if he wants to win a NC; it was the right move for him. Brian Kelly wasn’t going to win a NC at ND despite being the all-time winningest HC & bringing the program back from the depths of mediocrity. I don’t know if MF will win a natty but I know he can do what no coach since Holtz did…bring in elite talent on both sides of the ball.

BK made it clear he either didn’t like recruiting or just wasn’t good at it (or both). That’s fine when you’re at LSU where the program recruits itself. It’s a challenge at ND where you have to navigate academics, atmosphere, weather & distance from home. Seeing what idiots like Les Miles & Orgeron were able to do tells me BK can win a natty in Baton Rouge. Doesn’t mean he will, but still in a better position to pull it off at LSU than at ND. Best of luck to him.

Give it a rest dude.
Sorry Dale - its a real issue. Our QB room is a nightmare. TB is injury prone, Pyne is not ready, neither is Angeli, and RP3 shouldn't have a scholly and we are waiting on a current Junior as the next commit.

Don’t know how long you’ve been an ND fan but to assume they can just “bring in lots of studs in the portal” like the LSUs of the world is pretty telling. Helen Keller could recruit successfully to LSU so let’s not act like that‘s a heavy lift like it is at ND.

Freeman took over a “top 5 program” at ND, and BK took over a pile of junk at LSU. Sounds legit.

Which part made ND top 5? The Pinstripe Bowl trophy?

I understand you keep stressing the hypothetical success (pre-season ranking) instead of the achieved success (Camping Bowl lol), but to act like MF inherited a better set of cards at ND did than BK did at LSU is simply not true.

Freeman has yet to sign this class. We will see how much better it is that Kelly's recruiting. Losing Keeley and not having a QB in this class are serious setbacks.

Yes those are serious setbacks that Brian Kelly couldn’t have avoided either. BK was the man in charge when ND signed Angeli, Pyne, Buchner, Book, etc. Can’t have it both ways.

I am not comparing transfers wholesale at ND. Yes ND has hurdles that other schools don't have. Something Kelly discussed in his move. Something many of us ND fans often refuse to acknowledge, too. But what I was trying to state is that Kelly knows how to turn a program around and make the right moves in the offseason. Not taking 1 Grad QB was a massive screwup by Freeman and Rees.

I am not having it both ways. Apples to Apples. This class when signed might be about a Top 5 class. Not Top 3 or better.

You like hypotheticals though. Shouldn’t we just say he “had the #1 class” because at one point, when it didn’t matter, he did?

Fair but you say that massive screwup like BK was mistake-free during his time at ND. Was it as massive a screw up in year one of a first time HC as going 4-8 in year 7 w/ plenty of talent that BK was responsible for bringing in?

Where does it say either HC have SIGNED the #1 class??? That would be news to me. When Freeman SIGNS at Top 3 Class then that would be worth discussions. I think the class will be 4 - 7 type class when signed. Similar to ranges Kelly has been in.

Last year was 1 of maybe 2 times Kelly had a top 7 class. Freeman out recruits Kelly in his sleep

When did BK bring in a top 3 class while at ND?
Never - but Freeman has yet to SIGN a class. That is my point. Everyone wants to project the best on Freeman and he has yet to finish a single cycle but the class currently is very good but without Keeley and a QB its not elite like other program's classes. Will it be better than Kelly's class? Who knows. Time will tell. Just don't assume it will until it happens.
