I haven't watched with my parents but that's because GOT was so egregious with the nudity that I'm still convinced they'll do it again.
you watch GoT with your parents?

So for my bday present my wife got me a replica Longclaw (Jon snows sword). It’s a legit sword. It comes with a plaque that says the Nights Watch saying.

I’m pretty damn pumped about it. My wife thinks it’s stupid but I find it sweet as hell

Every time this thread gets bumped I get a little glimmer of hope. Then I check what the update is and my soul dies again.

As of two weeks ago, GRRM says he has about 500 pages left to finish all of his character POV's. He's finished some POV's already. Basically.... he still hasn't actually written anything in the past four years, unless you count 'editing' as writing. All of the shit that's done was done already, as most of it was overflow from aDwD or written shortly thereafter.

The man realized halfway through aDwD, after having already extended the series from 5, to 6, now to 7 books, that he's got too many loose ends with wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much setup to actually finish it in another two books. I think the show only reinforced that for him.

So now he's given up.

All that's left is for his editor to force out an edition of "The Winds of Winter," and then to announce two months later that "A Dream of Spring" will actually be split into two volumes. That will be the death knell on seeing the series finished by the author.

GRRM is 74 years old. He better get moving on those books before he dies. Will be very disappointing if he can’t finish the book series

Oh good grief! Stop worrying! If he dies, the producers and show runners of GOT can finish the books for him.

Nah he’s definitely written a bunch. TWOW is probably going to be ≈1700 manuscript pages. If he’s 500 pages away that means he’s written 1200. I think only about 300 were holdover from Dance.

I’m pretty sure it’s Preston Jacobs who has a great video covering his theory on what’s happened with TWOW. It came out a little bit before George’s most recent big update and it basically lines up with exactly what the notablog says.

I don't want to hear about well-verified sources that are informed on these issues.

I want to wallow in my misery, and continue to believe the gossip blogs I read when they say that he hasn't actually written new content, that he is simply continuing to stall with all of his new projects, and that everything is doom-and-gloom in the GRRM universe, just as GRRM intended.

I still haven't watched the last two seasons of the show.
If he doesn't release by 2024 I'm going to watch and pretend that's his version and be done with it.

For real though, his pages/year is not inspiring lol.

If it's 1700 pages, and he had ~300 in the bag from aDwD, wrote a bunch, and now has ~500 to go... that means he's written 900 fresh, print-worthy pages in TWELVE years!

75 pages per year! Even if we're generous and grant him three years of grace for all of the extra cool shit he does (Elden Ring, at least 5 pilot scripts for HBO content, Wild Cards, etc.), that's 100 pages per year! That puts us at a 2028 release date, and that's if the editing process goes smoothly. I'm optimistic for 2025, now that 'Fire and Blood' and 'House of the Dragon' are both rolling.

Something is off though, right?

Let's be real. He's an incredibly talented writer and incredibly LAZY.
Hand me the keys, I'll knock that shit out by Sunday and it'll blow your fucking mind.

I think he had a significant portion of the book finished and scrapped almost all of it. In 2015 around Halloween time he told his publishers he believed he could have the book finished by Xmas of that year. Here we are over 7 years later and still no book. He’s not that delusional that he could have thought he could finish the whole book in 2 months. He must have been close to the finish line and then something changed.

He took one final look at the notes and outline that he gave Benioff and Weiss, realized it was trash, and went back to 'gardening' from an early point that he liked lol
