Lenzy looks to be quick out, hitch type of receiver. 5th year senior, let him have this role moving forward, but hopefully the staff push Merriweather/Colzie into the third wide receiver role.

UNLV game in two weeks should be a tune-up game, but also the game to get some younger guys in position to contribute more.

Yeah that is interesting, Waiting for someone to come up with an explanation.
I'm not certain, but I think that was Xavier Watts. I believe he was listed as #4 at some point but probably switched to #26 to not conflict with Styles on special teams. It's just a guess, but maybe the jerseys were produced earlier in the year and Watts was issued the #4 prior to the switch.

A very mild opinion by me (i.e. I'm willing to say I'm wrong): On the fourth (or even third) and short rushes which got stuffed --- When the defense has roothog tackles and the DC expects a for-sure run, the defensive call is for those tackles to submarine the OLine and create a pile whether the OLine is good or not --- i.e. the pile will be there especially if some thick Polynesians are involved (and BYU has them.) SO, what do you look for?

As a back, you should expect that pile. If you are a flyer, great, hurdle it. Estime is not THAT kind of hurdler; he's a cannonball on these plays. If you can't/won't hurdle, you need to be quick-minded and quick-footed enough to recognize that it's a Polynesian Pile, and veer to the edge of that pile --- re-watch the game, you'll see that at the edge there are "thin" areas, where an Estime (if he gets there,) will get the yard and probably more. (Or, with a QB with an attitude, a QB pull and run will do so.)

I believe, counterintuitively, that if we are facing a DLine capable of that kind of pile-making, Estime is not the right RB to have in there then. ... because he will just thump into the pile. Tyree should be able to see and make that cut. But his footing seemed weirdly unsure. So the right guy that game might have been Diggs --- powerful yet a directional slasher.

If any of that makes sense (and it might not), Tommy should recognize what sort of DLine "theory" the opponent has prior to the game, practice against specifically that with the correct back (or maybe alert Estime better of the possibility that he occasionally might want to cut.) Whatever happened, I think that we had the wrong back in for that particular kind of DLine strength. I know that this is not simple to do, but we have great athletes, and I have confidence that we have the choices to make it work === and will before long.

Postgame Thoughts:
1) Pyne is looking more and more comfortable & confident, the timing of this couldn't be better.
2) Estime & Diggs were a nice 1-2 punch. If ND can have a nice 1-2 punch out of our 3 starting RB's any game, I like our chances of winning.
3) Mayer was unstoppable in the first half, he should've had 20 total catches.
4) The o-line is starting to gel.
5) Thomas's first TD catch was beautiful.
6) Nice to see Colzie and Merriweather get reps, they need more.
7) If a recruit saw this game the half time and postgame comments by Manti and Freeman were a seller.
8) The Manti moments this football season have been great to see.
9) Hopefully our defense can build off this win.
10) Might be looking ahead on this one...get Jeremiyah Love to commit next weekend!

Go Irish!

Young team with a young coach. Everyone learning on the fly. Take the wins where you can. A lot of the small mistakes can be corrected with experience. Learning how to win is the hardest part.

Who could’ve guessed NBC screwing up another ND commentary pairing. 100% would take Mayock back.

Jayden Thomas drop on nice Pyne pass on second drive! Unacceptable. DJ Brown hit to cause a fumble was great but we should’ve got that one. Dline seemed to get pushed around in the first quarter. Unacceptable. Bo Bauer stop at the goal line was ruined by our DB being MIA. Mayer first half was incredible.
Bone head pick 6 drop by Clarence Lewis.

He had a bad game. I think that if we look at his performances against UNC or Cal we would have a different takeaway.
100%. The first 4 games on the season I thought Tyree was the best looking of the RB’s. Last night Tyree was not good, he was off. Saying that Diggs looked bad until the UNC game. I think it’s ridiculous people are saying Tyree should get less reps.

Take a couple of Prozacs
We outplayed the number 16 team totally
If they finish the season #16 I will relax. Hoping they have a winning record. Both teams. After Marshall will never relax again. I’m a Valium man.

Pat Haden and Ara were the best pairing imo. Pat did a great job of pretending he never played for USC let alone beat us.

Are you high? He is awful, has no instincts, constantly slow to react, and when he blitzes he just runs into the OL and RB to get stale matted. IMO he is the biggest issue at LB.
No kidding, just rewatch the game. Liafau is very poor at diagnosing where a play is going and is constantly chasing the ball . Yeah he's big and fast but he isn't effective.

We're seriously a not fucking up the Marshall game away from being still in the top 10-12
That loss is absolutely killing us. Still not ranked in the polls. James Madison is ranked 25th. The Marshall loss is going to dog us the rest of the year.
Really doesn't matter. The playoffs were never a reasonable expectation for this team anyway.

The goal has been to maintain momentum on the recruiting trail and build for Freeman's following years. We've got a good shot at double digit wins and a NY6 bowl appearance, which I'm quite happy with.

BYU was a ranked team with an elite offense and we dominated them statistically. Just keep getting better each week, getting the younger guys experience, and cleaning up the mental lapses.

I get that the voters are throwing James Madison and Coastal Carolina bones for being undefeated, both are getting more AP and Coach's votes over us...but neither has played a P5 team yet and each team only plays one. They haven't played a ranked Top 25 team, nor 3 teams that are at least receiving votes.

So a kid w/ world class speed is relegated to a possession WR? And he’s had every chance to be who they thought he would be coming out of HS.

It was a good game but still not dynamic enough on Offense to keep up with Clemson and SC.

Your not going to beat Clemson and SC by holding back throwing down field. Running back and Tight End Play are not explosive enough against the elite teams.

The defense still gives up big plays.

Freeman seems like a wonderful onlooker when the offense is on the field and a tortured soul when the D gives up big plays. He will need two more seasons to gain confidence as a HC.

This will be a 4 loss Season at best.

I think both games can be winnable, but Clemson does get two weeks to prepare for us and they're probably the better game between the two. I'm guessing we drop the Clemson game, but we should absolutely dominate the trenches against USC and have a tight one with them. If Oregon State can keep it interesting I think we can absolutely find a way to win against USC.

I was skeptical about USC at the beginning of the season but they are getting better with each game. What they tend to do is muck around during the first half and then grind teams down in the second when their offensive talent kicks in and they pull away. Will be interesting to see how they do against Utah and UCLA.
