So, what’s everyone’s honest record prediction now?? I had 9 wins,… I’d prob go 6 and would take it in an instant if one of the wins is somehow USC,… I know,… but still

Offense:
- OL had an abysmal 1st half, but came together and was decent in the 2nd half. Correll still needs to sit. That fumbled snap was horrid.
- Estime and Tyree carried this team hard today.
- Pyne was atrocious to start, but he regrouped and played a fairly solid game after that.

Defense:
- Foskey and Jayson finally decided to show up this season.
- Lacey was excellent today. Didn't see much of Cross, but what I did see was pretty good.
- LBs....smh...if it wasn't apparent a change needed to happen, now they are going to be forced to make it (I'm going to make that a point of it's own). Bauer is just....awful. How this guy is a 5th year that consistently plays with such poor awareness is beyond me. And Marist...boy, I can't be more disappointed in this guy. He had such upside and potential but he is almost non-existent and shows horrible discipline.
- JD Bertrand....if Marcus is half as smart as I think he is, he's going to rip that C off his chest and never see the field in a competitive game again. Talk about selfish, dangerous and stupid. Let me tell you something kid, you're nowhere near good enough to get away with that crap. Freeman will have to play somebody else for the first half of UNC and if he's smart, he'll KEEP IT THAT WAY. This is a lesson in accountability son, and it's a lesson you're going to have to learn the hard way.
- HOW DO WE NOT HAVE A SINGLE TURNOVER IN THREE GAMES!?

Special Teams:
- Sot is easily the MVP of this team so far.

Overall:
- A win is a win.
- However, I saw a team that scraped by with talent. Discipline is beyond atrocious and the leadership seems almost non-existent. First half, the OL was as sloppy as I can remember. Symbolized by back to back false starts by Correll and Patterson. Again, two key penalties from two veterans, including a captain. Then there was the Bertrand garbage. Correll and Pyne teaming up to fumble that snap that led to Cal's first touchdown. And for once, can this defense hold the momentum? Glad they ultimately kept them from scoring, but we needed a botched Hail Mary for that to happen.

I am riding with 7.... Why? No clue. We're mess. Cal is not a good team.

STA, UNLV and Navy could be wins.

USC, Clemson, BYU probable L's

Toss up on the rest, although I'd bet on losing to UNC, too.

Happy for the coach getting a W
Happy for Pyne
I think Jadarian Price would have been valuable. Bigger than Tyree and faster than Estime.
Why is 16 returning punts. He can make the first guy miss but otherwise is useless.

Before the season I was all over 11-1 or 10-2.
Now I'm taking each game as a mini season in itself.
Just find a way to win and keep this class together.

One small complaint: 7 goes down very easy for a 230 lb beast. I expect more from him.

I think we’re a 5 win team but could get to 8 if things break right.
A lot depends on if we can find a way against a beatable UNC it would feel like an upset at this point. The Ohio State game plan may be appropriate here again too

For all the ‘never schedule soft’ morons,…

Wouldn’t you love to have scUMs schedule right now??? We’d be having a totally different season right now
Seriously. It's like going all-in pre-flop on every hand.

Yeah, 6 is possible. So is 3. I’ll be an optimist and say 6-6.

It’s not just him. I’ve noticed all the RB/WR/TE “slip” when trying to cut on the turf. The inexcusable part of it is that it’s been mostly on ND’s home turf. So is it the turf, the cleats or the coaches?

Happy for MF.

OL and DL stepped up. Both need to build off of today and continue to improve.

I thought Rees called a better game today.

Pyne played a steady game in the 2nd half, but it's clear that he limits what we can do on offense.

WR is still a nuclear wasteland and will be all season.

Still a lot of undisciplined mistakes on both sides of the ball.

6 or 7 wins remains the ceiling for this team because we are going to have to consistently score in the 30's (at least) to win more than that and this offense doesn't have that capability on a weekly basis.

Yep. Next two games will determine a lot. If the lines play like they did today a lot more is possible. And Pyne should get better with experience, up to a point. It just needs to happen quickly.

I could see us as a team this year that is better on the road than at home. The hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth (while warranted) has got to be taxing.

Big take always:
Pyne finished 17/23 after an awful start. Would really like us to implement more slants or other easy, quick but still having big play potential plays.

Defense had 6 sacks, and easily should of had 10.

Iowa and Wisconsin have built perennial 10 win season programs based of strong defense with a limited offense. We need to copy that blue print the rest of the season. With the exception of UNLV, every game this season will be a battle to pull out a W the way we’re playing. I’d still take 7-5 in a heartbeat.

it feels like it’s been this way for a decade
Feels like it, but man have we taken some players for granted. 2/4 of our last starting QBs played in the NFL, starting actual professional games. With Jack Coan, this is an easy 10 win team.

We HAVE to stop with all the pre-play motion. We have more motion than Shakira twerking and it never amounts to anything more than causing confusion for our own players and drawing false start and illegal motion penalties. We went away from it mostly in the second half and our operations seemed to improve quite a bit.
