Freeman didn't hire Rees. Swarbrick did.
I know and that makes this setup even sillier. Does that make Rees untouchable is Freeman wants to make a change? Isn't Rees's father work or affiliated with the AD's office. Freeman should have done a national search and hired his own OC. It might still have been Rees but I bet this will become an issue.

Hey Gramps, nobody goes to malls anymore. Dating yourself, old timer…
Old timer AF. Point stands.

Speaking of Gramps, I do have this grandkid 8 months who is huge. Lives ten minutes from his G’pa’s College WS banner too, worked out well.

Back on topic. Whatever you want to call it. It’ll be ND, not Michigan, this time.

ND plays 3 shit defenses in a row before BYU. If we can’t score 35-40+ against each, we aren’t winning 10 games this year. Really need to hope to see improvement from Buchner as a pocket passer next week.
And if the OLine dominates he will. BTW Cal is not a “shit” defense. Offense is, but they are a solid defense.
We better show much better offense next week or it’s going to be a long season

Mike Frank just did his game rewatch notes and swear to god 50%+ of the bad plays in some form involve Correll fucking up. The drop off from Patterson to him is insane.
Yup. didn't watch his show, but even this short highlight tape lends credence to bad OL play. Lots of misses/miscommunication/simply getting beat.

Stroud and the receivers really did make some tough plays to extend drives. Also, the opening kickoff was brutal.

Freeman has to be having buyer’s remorse with Rees.
Should have been smart enough to bring in proven play-caller.
He won’t admit it publicly but guessing his focus will be on the offensive side of the ball going forward.
Believe he responded to Rees pass on 2nd down right before half instead of running out the clock was “that was stupid”
Freeman is responsible for whatever happens on the field. Sad that this team is going to go from 11 wins a season to 6

I'm absolutely floored that so many people must have thought the Oline was going to dominate last night. Even with Patterson in, I would have still been worried. I feared that the communication could have miscues and that Knowles front 7 was going to take a big step up.

All of that happened. OSU is really really good guys. Their defense is not last year. They played hard as shit and Zeke didn't have Patterson beside him to help.

I wasn't confident about the group entering the game last night. With that said,I'm also convinced the Oline is going to abuse normal teams as they gel. I'm confident in that. Clemson will be the only other front 7 that I worry about, even slightly.

Notre Dame isn't gonna be a 6 win team lol. They'll probably win 9-10 games.

Defense looks stout. Offense will be good enough to score against lesser teams.
I think 6 wins is more likely than 9…just think we will have some growing pains and I’m just not sold
on Freeman yet. 6 wins and a bowl may be the best we can do this year.

The 6 win crowd needs to take a serious deep breath. If the schedule was reversed and they played Marshall game 1 and had this same result week 2, no one’s outlook is significantly changed.

The same knee jerk reactions happened after the Toledo win last year. 7 win team at best…

This is NOT a 6 win team GMAFB. The reality is this team will be no better or no worse than a Kelly team. Freeman better land more 5 stars or we will perpetually stuck as a Top 5 team but not Top 3.

Holy shit man. It wasn’t perfect but this team just went toe to toe with Ohio State in their house with a first time starter. The Oline will get better. Let’s not act like OSU is devoid of elite talent all over the field. The goal was clearly to limit TB from making mistakes. He threw some awful balls last night but stood tall. He and the offense will put up a lot of yards and score a lot of points moving forward. This was as tough an opener as you can have with a brand new coach and QB.

If you don’t think having your senior captain in there in a game of that magnitude would have made a world of difference, idk what to tell you.
ND should be at a point where his backup should be capable of being 90% of him.
Alabama and Georgia wouldn't have flinched. That's what we want to be, right? Then we must have those expectations.

If Brian Kelly were still the coach, the game would’ve played out the same way for the first three quarters. Then after OSU took the lead he would have pulled Buchner for Pyne in the 4th who would immediately throw a pick 6. Then Kelly gets that petrified look on his face and Osu goes on to blow the doors off and win 35-13 (because kelly would kick a field goal with a minute left)

I agree with ACamp, why all the bitching about the WR's?? Buchner started out 8/8, then got worse. Is that the WR's fault?

I think it's time to move on with our younger core of WR's and give them PT. Why didn't Colzie play?
Our WRs caught all of 3 passes last night. For reference, Mayer had 5 just by himself. They aren't good as a position group. People blamed low WR numbers on Book, but he had no problems hitting Chase for 1000 yards. We've developed the position poorly and recruited even worse over the last several years. Good news is it's getting better, but we won't see the improvements for another year or maybe two depending on how soon the talent adapts.

I expect we'll see Merriweather and Colzie more as the season goes. It was too big of a stage for a true frosh getting his first playing time is my guess.

I was disappointed not seeing Merriweather. I would typically have low expectations for a true freshman at any position, but WR is one where you can play early and the media talk about him since he arrived has been nothing short of Manti Te’o level hype. At one point someone at IB said he was at least the third best receiver on the team and that was way back in the spring.

Why are people missing the fact that it’s Rees’ own fault he has nothing to work with?
He didn’t just show up in January.
His first recruiting class is the 5-6 Sophomores that are currently starting for this team. They're talented, but they're young and rather inexperienced. We're setup well for the future, especially with the additional talent that is coming in, but there's no way that offense was going to be prepared for tOSU in Week 1 in Columbus.

This is a shame. It seemed like reports coming out of camp said the 2nd string was a surprise after last year, they looked very good. Harry is going to need more time, but I expect he'll push that group and make improvements soon. We definitely had communication issues last night, and those are easily fixable.

What is there not to be sold on about Freeman? He is recruiting his ass off. The players, alumni and his coworkers all think really highly of him. He is young, energetic and ultra competitive. The team overall was at least as well prepared for the moment last night as they were at any point in these type of games under Kelly who has been doing it 30+ years.

There is work to be done, but he is a quick study, wants to be great and is a tireless worker. I see zero reason to not believe he is that dude and will get it done at an extremely high level here.
