I agree that's most likely the case. The BoT and administration needs to take a look in the mirror and reflect on what the program has meant to the university itself.

Hopefully we get some extremely wealthy alumni who take matters in their own hands because you're right. The BoT and administration has handicapped this program since circa 1993 imo.

I'm not confident that they will adapt. Two questions for the BoT and admin.

Do you support Capitalism? If so, a measly few million per year for players is worth the demand for these players and the program. These tiny investments are a drop in the bucket and absolutely bring back the returns 10 fold in comparison to what the football program is responsible. ND Football is the bread winner for the the University.

Question 2. Where is the University of Notre Dame and what would the campus look like if it wasn't for the football program?
I didn’t attend ND, but as a sub alum, I can’t advocate for the BoT lowering themselves to the levels of TN, ATM, etc, so early into the infancy of NIL. We don’t know how this is going to pan out in the next 3-5 years. By all accounts, FUND is a legitimate operation based on showing recruits what their anticipated earnings could be once they arrive as a student athlete. Fucking Braden Lenzy is featured in a national ad campaign for Dicks. It’s working and is legitimate and above board.

Let’s wait and see if ATM, TN, and that ilk ever win anything out of all this wheeling and dealing. My gut tells me this advance pay is going to cause them more turmoil than success.

So NIL is legit now. So it's not lowering any standard. It's a function of Capitalism, suppy and demand and perceived value And 250 k a year is chump change for ANY 5 star in the top 10 of his recruiting class. You hit it on the head, that's exactly what they will do. Stand pat and watch. And another 3 decades will roll by and they will Watch, instead of being progressive. It's not lowering any standard, it's the cost of business

I agree. If Keeley is gone the class is status quo. Swapping Kelly for an inexperienced coach will lead to turmoil unless the gap is closed in talent. We could be headed for a pre Kelly era post Lou. It’s not an over reaction to say losing the elite guys is a tragedy for what this needs to be to push the needle.
Yep, I like the hire of golden big time and I think Rees is fine, but I have zero confidence in freeman coaching. Recruiting and leading players and coaches are his strength I see. How unprepared our D was game 1 vs FSU has me really concerned for Ohio state.

It took Norvell 2 series to figure out freemans stupid unique scheme and then slash us up with average talent.

First 2 series -20 yards next 11 series 450 yards.

I think HS recruits should not be allowed to verbal anywhere until their Sr year. By the time they first step foot into their SR year they should be able to sign their LOI to play for whoever they want. This “verbal” stuff and “silent” stuff is really dumb if you really think about it. You say you want to play for ND… fine here is a contract.

I have high hopes for freeman; but not if he can’t land or keep elite talent … Bowen and keeley leaving would be disastrous for what freeman is trying to do/build

Our top db commit last year decommitted when freeman was hired

Lmao what a garbage post
I think the first part of his comment was valid, but I don’t think the db had anything to do with Freeman. If anything, Freeman is why we kept the class intact. That said, I agree that I have 0 faith in Freemans ability to coach. I’ve never seen it. Maybe he will be great. Maybe not. I literally have no idea. I like the hire bc he’s supposed to close the talent gap. If he can’t do that, I don’t like his chances at ND. He gets ‘24 b4 he’s fully judged in recruiting. As of now, it’s a big boost. If he can’t close, it’ll be BK level recruiting. He was not hired to outwit Day, Dabo, Riley. He was hired to recruit at their level. People like to compare MF hire to Day, Dabo, Riley, etc. as first time coaches to justify why he will be elite. However, all of those first time coaches recruit better than ND has in 30 years. They win bc they are elite recruiters or hire elite recruiters.

I do think MF is going to be a better HC than DC. Why? I don’t really know. I hope the ‘24 class will be legendary. Maybe false sense of hope.

ND's defense was 11th per this metric. Cincinnati was 2nd in 2020. He is an elite defensive mind.

If he’s liking ND stuff and responding to our recruits publicly, that’s always a good sign. If that isn’t happening, they’re usually gone. It’s a very good strategy to feel the waters when nobody knows anything. For instance, Hanafin last post was a retweet of he and Vizzina in Clemson jerseys instead of responding to our receivers tweeting at him to come home. That’s when I knew he was gone. I didn’t need to listen to Driskell assure everyone he’s leaning ND.

Fat Soup Nazi said Notre Dame Insider said that the staff isn’t worried their top recruit is visiting Bama - so all is good!

He doesn’t like anyone posting contrary to his insider info.

I don't think many would disagree with you. The issue is the BoT and others look at NIL as moving away from ND's core mission and how that looks in the eye of the public. They don't think you can maintain your core academic mission if your paying kids to play FB.

The university and the football program have different boards.

What?
A verbal means nothing.
The team and coaches can’t even talk about it.
The only way of knowing is a kid publicly saying they plan on going somewhere. It means nothing.
My 6 year old can say they are going to ND. Nobody can stop them.
What’s next, a kid can’t say publicly who they rooted for growing up? LOL

A verbal is nothing more than a kid telling the world who his current leader is.

And a high school Sr. can’t sign a contract unless they are already 18.
And even if they sign a LOI, which is not a contract, they can immediately get out of it whenever they want now.

It always has been & always will be, a business about trust & relationships.
All you can do is build relationships and trust what the kid tells you.

I'm sure it's strategic on Bama's part but sucks that this is happening right at the start of a dead month.
