The question is does Riley's prevailing "ethic" fit in with or act in conflict with

USC Now Has A Residential College Named After Al Cowlings

Posted on June 28, 2017 by Scott Wolf

The new USC Village project now has a residential college named after former USC defensive lineman Al Cowlings of the Wild Bunch/O.J. Simpson Bronco fame.
So how did Cowlings get a residential college instead of Sam Cunningham, Lynn Swann or Marcus Allen? A $15 million anonymous gift was made to USC to endow and name the residential college.
“This remarkably generous gift enhances USC’s world-class living and learning environment and will carry Mr. Cowlings’ name, in tribute to his tremendous passion for his alma mater and our students,” USC President Max Nikias said.
For many years, Cowlings has been a close friend of Wayne Hughes, the founder of Public Storage.

No surprise. The school has always been an ethical cesspool.

I'm not sure. But any house in L.A. that only has 7 fireplaces in it isn't even worth my time. I won't stay in any house out there with anything less than 11. Riley's basic.
It’s especially true when you live in an area that never gets below 65 degrees, where your HOA requires you shit on the rest of the country for their carbon foot, and yet you fire all those fuckers up on the reg anyway because you’re that special.

A friend mentioned that SC to the B1G is picking up steam. I'll see where he heard this from in the morning. He was the same friend who told me that SC absolutely wanted to pull Mike Tomlin weeks before his name was put out there (and his later denial).

Gerard Martinez at 247’s USC site stated that they’ll be putting something together on this, in more detail for their subscribers, but this was an NIL victory for Oregon. Just a bigger/better deal than what USC had.

Makes me want to go out and buy Nike shoes just so Uncle Phil keeps sticking it to SC.

The gist of it is that SC reached out to the B1G, not the other way around.

Looking for an explanation of what USC is thinking from a roster management perspective from anyone who has experience or insight in recruiting. We've discussed that they have incredible skill talent and bad OL talent, but I didn't realize how bad their OL situation was:

2023: No OL thus far. No crystal balls.
2022: 1 OL (3 star transfer from Virginia)
2021: 3 OL (All 3 stars, nationally ranked 392, 808, 912)
2020: 6(!) OL (Headliner is 4 star Monheim, who is ranked 365 nationally. After that though... yeesh. Ranked 689, 721. The other 3 were unranked.)
2019: 2 OL (1 4 star, 1 transfer from Tennessee who I think is long graduated now)
2018: 2 OL (1 4 star ranked 110 (hat tip), 1 3 star ranked 505)

I'd be worried for my head if I was their QB, especially after the 2020 class rolls off the board

Their OL is gonna be a problem, but Riley will probably be able to scheme his way around that, at least against most of their pac 12 opponents. Bigger concern for them, IMO, is their defensive roster. It is......not good. And Alex Grinch's boom or bust style will exacerbate that problem.

As I'm sure Tommy Rees can attest, there's very little you can do to scheme around a bad OL.

It'll probably not matter against less than stellar defenses, but when suddenly they have to go up against a stout unit up front (aka. us), we'll see just how much you can "scheme" around that glaring flaw.

Definitely. Of course, Caleb Williams not having lead attached to his feet will help. But when they have to face teams that can beat them up in the trenches (ND, Utah, UCLA, etc.) it's going to be a big problem. And one that will take years to fix.

if we sign all five DL guys that we have verbals from or could get like Moore to go with the front seven we got for the 22 class then Williams or any other USC QBs will have very rough days against us because of not having any time to look down the field for open WRs due to very bad OL recruiting over the past few years and that will take time to fix like you are saying

I think SC will have a much better line than most think

LT = Bobby Haskins - 3 yr starter at UVa, HM ALL-ACC.
LG = Andrew Vorhees - 4 yr starter - AP Third Team All American
C = Brett Neilon - 3 yr starter - PFF First Team ALL-PAC -534 snaps w/o a sack (led the country)
RG = Justin Dedich - 7 starts over the past two years at OC & RG. PFF ALL-PAC HM
or
RG = Jonah Monheim - 7 starts at RT as a RS Fr.
RT = Courtland Ford - Started 8 games at LT in '21 as a RS Fr.
or
RT = Jonah Monheim - See above.

If they stay healthy, they'll be good.
