USC has missed on every major OL target so far.

The OL coach hire was absolutely essential to kick this off right with Bedenbaugh not following to USC. They hired the A&M coach who’s entire recruiting classes were TX kids every single time. Maybe they can patchwork a transfer OL every year but this will be interesting to follow. At their core OU like anyone was best when they had a good OL, not just QB.

USC has been a glorified 7 v 7 team for the last decade so seems like nothing is changing

Unsure of whether to put this in the media thread or this one, but whatever you think of Farrell, Caleb Williams seems like a complete ass

They didn't start telling the truth about Caleb until after he was already out the door

They don't give a sh!t about their players, and the NCAA lets them do it.

This is a great example of why the NCAA needs to move to 4-year scholarships.
This is an adult thread. We can say whatever the hell we want.

I saw a less prestigious school was going to do something similar, paying $37,000 a year to each player? Don't remember the school, but that's pretty crazy. Getting paid for likeness is one thing, everyone being paid like a near full time worker...eh.

I know for a fact that certain SEC schools are doing something very similar but keeping it under the radar.

Gonna be real hard then to fight back employment issues at that point. They gonna get workers comp now? Hostile work environment claims. Union rep gets a call if you’re not starting

Pretty hard to claim that they are USC employees if they aren't being paid by USC and USC doesn't want them being paid.

And we 80,000 plus new IRS employees. Time to pay their share of taxes.

They make the school at least $100 million per year. I’m not gonna cry about them making the equivalent of minimum wage considering the hours they put in.

It's definitely going to lead to some bad things though. Not every school taxes players educationally like ND. You've got the athlete courses, online classes, etc. Lots of 18 year old kids with full rides are going to be sitting on $40k+ with nothing to spend it on but stupid stuff like booze, weed, cars, strippers, bling, guns, etc. You're talking about a lot of kids with no financial responsibilities and a ton of cash to blow.

Correct and good point. It would be this Student Body Right responsible for any labor laws.

$37/k would need to pay out as hourly too, so OT laws would apply. And in California they’d also be on the hook for paid sick time.

The article lists Notre Dame as among schools with something similar (an independent, donor-funded collective). I assume they're referring to the FUND. But that's not being done "against Notre Dame's wishes." What's the difference here, exactly?

That was SMU. Just shows, once again, how much money Texans have when it comes to football.

And this is a non power 5 school which has not won anything in years.

SMU has outsized % of alums with fuck you money that care about football. Not fair to compare them to say BC or Northwestern.

Everyone is talking about their offense and rightfully so, but their defense in less than 7 quarters has had 8 takeaways and scored 3 TD's.

So you’re saying not only is ND gonna get blown up…they’re gonna get shutout.

Number 1 ranked prospect in OR in 2024, plucked by USC under the Ducks noses (beaks?)

Caleb Williams is really really fucking good. Like #1 overall pick quality good. They might go undefeated despite all of their flaws just because of him.
