Looking at some of the gameplay footage, it doesn't appear to have enough boobs for @ulukinatme to want to play...Seems like the #fashionsouls crowd is going to love this game.
15 hours in and I haven't beaten the first story boss yet (Margit). Picked Astrologer for the same reasons you did (first DS game I've played). So I bit the bullet and purchased Elden Ring. I have zero Dark Souls experience soooo... any advice? Im thinking of starting with a Confessor (I love Paladins) and it looks like this would be a good choice for me not only for my style of play but also survivability with zero experience. I have found a few videos on beefing up quickly so im going to try that before doing anything hard. Game looks fucking amazing so far.
My advice is not to play it like any other game. I'm usually a little more comfortable just running around and raising hell at the beginning of a game while I learn to craft/forge/etc. This game is not forgiving and I hate gathering items/relics only to die because I challenged a group of dead soldiers to a sword fight. So I bit the bullet and purchased Elden Ring. For Margit, get the Jellyfish summon by exhausting the dialogue with the ncp in front of Stormviel castle. With that, and the ai summoner before the fog entrance, you should have a lot easier time taking turns distracting him. Plus if the Jellyfish last long enough, he will poison Margit and you can just avoid him for the last ~10% of life and he’ll die.15 hours in and I haven't beaten the first story boss yet (Margit). Honestly, found that a melee guy would have been better for the starting dungeons since it's a lot of CQC. Use your lone wolf ashes as often as possible to help keep the enemies aggro'd and it should make things a lot better.
This is amazing to know! I've been trying with the wolves and just figured my mind/intel wasn't high enough so I've been grinding that. For Margit, get the Jellyfish summon by exhausting the dialogue with the ncp in front of Stormviel castle. I’m convinced for the 2nd boss my character just isn’t strong enough. I’ve been exploring the world, and ran into and beat a bunch of random minor bosses. 2 of them I was even able to beat on 1 go. But I haven’t upgraded my weapons at all yet and I here thats a major part of this game.
Honestly, the lack of loot is the only disappointing thing in this game. In dark souls 3 I had tons of weapons and armor combinations after the first few hours. Here, I’ve found maybe a dozen weapons so far, but only like 3 I can even use yet, and a handful of mismatching armor.
Super impressed with the comments. All are spot on. I agree it's easier, but I appreciated that because my friends actually decided to join the franchise for the first time.
You on Switch or PC? I wanted to get it for PC originally, had it in my Steam wishlist, but I was surprised to find out my buddy had bought a Switch bundle that already included the game and planned on playing it at some point. That kind of forced my hand to get it for Switch.Super impressed with the comments. All are spot on. I think the biggest advantage to the palamute is the ability to hop on and sharpen your weapon while in a fight. Game changer. Lets you stay right next to the monster the whole time.
Running a dex/int build and while it started slow I've got so many spells to play with now. I tried Godrick once and decided I'd go explore and get much stronger before coming back. Wrecked him on my second try lol.Beat Godrick the Grafted two nights ago. I think the early castle is definitely the "you must be this good to ride the ride" moment of the early game because since leveling and practicing enough to beat it the game has become much more open and BotW like, with the map getting way bigger way faster. I'm playing as a strength/faith build and my starting class was a wretch so it took some time to get some momentum.
Jellyfish summons is definitely a must for people struggling with early bosses. It serves as a useful distraction if nothing else, but if you stay mildly aggressive with the boss and learn to dodge the boss's attacks while kiting it away from the jellyfish the jellyfish's spray attack will eventually poison the boss and help shorten the fight immensely.

Wrecked him on my second try lol. Don't know if you've got it yet but I'd also recommend the skeleton militia summon. When they die they they can revive like most skeleton enemies with full health as long as you can pull the enemy away from them before they reform. Huge asset for taking aggro from bosses and bosses that outnumber you 2v1, 3v1,etc.
I saw a post on the 'Dad Gaming' Facebook page about how to get your flask and primary weapon upgraded super early, as well as acquiring the wolves spirit summon and a flask that buffs your strength for 3 minutes at a time.Beat Godrick the Grafted two nights ago. I followed this guide (not that you need it):
It says it takes about a half hour... but I spent 3 hours taking my time and making sure I accomplished everything without dying lol. I also have not been able to locate the Cliffbottom Catacombs to get the glovewort items to upgrade my spirit summons yet... that's on my to-do list for tonight, and then I'll start seeing what kind of enemies I'm capable of challenging.
Some very cool areas to see. I'd love to post screenshots showing them off but I'll wait so as to not spoil anything. Just recently beat my new all time favorite Fromsoft boss.Oh also I "fell" for a trap this weekend that transported me as a prisoner to another part of the map that seemed very late game. (I figured it was going to do something bad to me, but I wanted to see what would happen haha.) That late game area got me extremely hyped. Looks like the late game is going to be Bloodborne levels of nutty.
Dang, that brings back some memories of my PS3playing need for speed hot pursuit remastered on nintendo switch right now. haven't played my switch for a few months and so i thought i would dust it off and start playing it again
Wait till Wiz sees this... 1 man army.I keep seeing BotW/Zelda fanboys in various Nintendo and gamer groups getting all percolated over Elden Ring because' it's obviously going to impact BotW2'..... why? Witcher 3 came out like a decade before the original BotW and I felt no carry over or impression on it.
Honestly, I tried real hard ringo to get into BotW... and I just couldn't do it... so many better open world games out there. Anyway, I'm sharing my thoughts here because sharing thoughts like that in those groups is like coming here and saying you 'hate Notre Dame, Go Blue' on this board and yeah, I want no part of the mob.
Army of none.Wait till Wiz sees this... 1 man army.
I spent three hours farming runes between the first enemy camp you encounter and a bridge that's nearby last night. Kill enemies, rest at Site of Grace, repeat. Playing like a total coward, and having a blast lol.
I did venture out a bit to tackles some other enemies, but mostly just wanted to grind in the early area. I tried taking on one of the Night's Cavalry in Limgrave on one of the bridges, and got him down to a sliver of health in mounted combat... but then I got too aggressive trying to finish him off and got my ass handed to me. Decided to head to bed at that point.
Another couple hours tonight and I'll have my faith and arcane leveled up enough to try a Darth Maul build I found via a Facebook video.
- Get the Twinblade from the Dragon-Burnt Ruins
- Get the Bloodflame Blade incantation from a Teardrop Scarab somewhere in Liurnia of the Lakes, near Rose Church
- Get the Dragon Communion Seal from the Hero's Grave, near the starting point of the game
- Take out trash mobs with giant sweeps of a double-bladed lightsaber; take on bosses while playing 'Duel of the Fates'
Weird cause I think BOTW and Elden ring actually already have a lot in common: Vast, beautiful, yet ultimately empty open worlds.I keep seeing BotW/Zelda fanboys in various Nintendo and gamer groups getting all percolated over Elden Ring because' it's obviously going to impact BotW2'..... why?
