Great effort by Lyght.

Just now watching his tape. Some people on here previously stated that he had the "lower ceiling" compared to guys like Boykin. That could be true, but I don't see it. I saw everything I needed/wanted to see in the first 3 minutes of his senior film. Jumps the short routes very well, showed speed on the deeper routes, and certainly wasn't afraid to stick his nose in on a tackle.

This class went from "oh crap, we have zero corners" to "wow, we might have 4 guys that could be major contributors have multiple years".

To piggyback off this, it was Loy or somebody on a podcast recently who said that his opinion of Brown's floor is 1 to 2 year starter

If he's really 6'1" (the video says he's 6'2") he'll be starting by his sophomore year.

I thought he was more like 5'10". I like him either way, but that is A LOT different for a DB.

Interested to see how well his adapts to the speed of college WR's because I loved his senior film.

Played 66 snaps last night, second on the team. I wrote him off but he was already eating into Houston’s time going into this week. Had PFF’s third highest grade only trailing Foskey and NaNa. 5 tackles, none missed. Targeted 3 times, 1 reception.

Against Va Tech, had PFF’s 4th highest grade. 3 tackles, none missed. Against UC, the highest grade! 5 tackles, none missed.

BK singled him out in his postgame presser. Sounds like he’s stepping up and getting comfortable in his role.

Two of his best games have been when Hamilton was out. Is it just that Brown is so much better suited for the Hamilton safety position then the one Houston plays?

Extremely happy for him. I mentioned him a couple/few times in various post game notes throughout the season. Just so impressed how he battled back after what as a very difficult start to the season. I hope we can get him to come back. Brown, Watts, and Henderson would be a solid group to start with.

Yep. Walters has certainly flashed at times whether in practice or the Spring game. My post wasn’t intended to slight him.

just to say say that if we’re looking for who will play the most snaps next year at S, it probably starts with the 3 guys that are ending this season as a focal point for the defense.

On Gee, I’m going with Jamie U on this and say he’s doesn’t stick at S. Which is fine. Let him play Rover/Sniper/etc once Balis has had time with him.

Agree with your thoughts. I’d also expects KJ Wallace to get a look at safety with the 3 others you mentioned above. Additionally I could see Wallace getting some snaps at the nickel spot replacing Bracy’s role. Back to DJ Brown; he doesn’t do any one thing spectacular, he is just a solid/good all around player.

I hate to be negative but my first thoughts that game to mind seeing this was the staff doesn't think they are getting Brandon Joseph.

Don't think you can read much into it. Our numbers in the defensive backfield are so thin we can't afford to let any willing senior walk, regardless of his quality.

Nope, if Joseph picks ND he jumps the line forcing Xavier Watts back to WR I think.

With the plethora of safeties, and possibility of adding Joseph as a GT, makes me wonder if one of them may move to the nickel next year.

especially considering there has been no news on Tariq Bracy and his fifth year yet

That was my reaction too until I saw Joseph’s tweet this AM.
Really didn’t expect Brown and Griffith both back as they are both depth pieces and we have to start playing the young guys soon.

Thought DJ played well this year and showed big improvements over 2020. Hope he can get himself some playing time Bc I think he has a chance to get drafted. Will be tougher now with Joseph in the fold.

Bring all the safeties back. Even move Lewis. If one leaves post Spring so be it. Better than having no numbers.
