Mason, HH, and Golden would be a solid collection to bring in and still leave WR open. Can't say I have a clue who is out there we might get but I would look for someone tied to the Briles staff back in Baylor.

SMH, so I looked up the WR coach for the Briles team at Baylor. Dude resigned for inappropriate relationship charges at North Texas a year ago or so. You already have the stigma of a Briles coaching tree and you get in trouble youself. What a loser.

Who’s the Bama coach? Looked up the coaching staff….there are hundreds of them. The fellow listed as wide receivers is coach is also Asst Coach of Offence (?). Doesn’t sound like a job you’d choose to leave.

Maybe he wants to be a OC some day soon and knows Saban only takes former NFL head coaches as OC.

I'm ok with this.

The entire recruiting operations team needs to be the Freeman show. Let him stock the cupboard with his guys that are willing to work his way.

I heard Mason might coach the Rovers (coached the Snipers at Cinci). That's good.

I like the idea of the Special Teams coach being able to do something besides talking to the kickers and puntera during non special teams periods.

When Holtz was hired in 1986, ND accepted 43% of all applicants, 75% graduated in the top 10% of their high school classes, and the average SAT score of an enrollee was 1200.

Now, ND only accepts about 16% of all applicants, 94% graduated in the top 10% of their high school classes, the average SAT is 1480 and the average ACT is 34.

The problem is that ND won't admit anyone that they don't believe can hang with the general admissions pool in a classroom. Athletes obviously get a lot of support that other students don't, and no one expects them to be top of the class, but there's a point at which a student just doesn't have the academic chops to complete any course of study we offer.

All this plus Notre Dame used to allow Prop-48 players. Tony Rice, Chris Zorich are two known such kids. They basically had to come on campus for the first year and prove they could handle the workload of normal students. I believe they quit admitting them in 89' or maybe 90'. I'd have to go back and look it up.

I can’t imagine what the pitch is but Holman Wiggins sounds like not just a message board/Twitter game of telephone. The wording on the II pod was a name that has emerged at WR coach is Holman Wiggins. They haven’t used that type of language on anyone else I’ve heard for WRs. Singer also said he heard his names floated too. No links I can find for current staff. West Coast guy. Shouldn’t be on the hot seat that I know of.

Maybe stability? If he produces and Saban likes him I can’t imagine he’s not stable through eventual OC hires though.

Damn if I was graduating HS in '86 I would have been a damn good applicant! Understand why my dad (Class of '80) complains that the school takes too many nerds now haha.

Can you imagine if we poached a coach from Alabama? What incentives would Freeman have for Wiggins to come to Notre Dame that can realistically compete with Alabama?

I can't fathom how we could potentially poach someone from Alabama's staff if it isn't a promotion.

Maybe pitching him as assistant head coach or OC in waiting for once Tommy inevitably gets an HC offer?

Hell of a list of commitments he's racked up at Bama, although i'm sure the position almost recruits itself.

Think it makes sense to spend real money on a WR coach given the state of the game today. Best offenses in CFB consistently have game breaking WRs.

If my math is correct it seems Nick Lezynsky is out of a position group coaching position unless ND goes with the promote Elston to DC route (not here to comment if that is a good or bad move, but I will say obviously the bowl game didn’t leave a good impression).

But with Mason coming in for special teams. The only slot open for Nick L would be LBs but would leave no room for DC.

So is Nick back to being an analyst? Is he out of the program? (I will say while our LBs lack certain athletic attributes which isn’t on Nick, the Fiesta Bowl was an exceptionally bad game for the LBs, so not exactly a great audition for him as an LB coach. Also maybe we missed having Nick in the booth).

If they bring in a secondary guy for DC, does O’Leary go back to being an analyst, and Nick L go to LBs? Can O’Leary coach LBs?

Does the next DC have to be a LB coach at this point and we should disregard any speculation if that person is not a LB coach?

IDK. Others posting similar. Footballscoop is too. After reviewing his tweets it seems to be posting factual stuff at least.
