I didn't realize that Purdue's Passing Offense was ranked #5 in the country this year. Holy cow, yeah he'd be a great pick up. Purdue's offense was #33 overall, #5 in passing, #127 in rushing (yikes)

But Oregon's passing offense wasn't really all that good, their offense wasn't really all that much better than ours, just basically swapping rushing vs passing.

Oregon: ranked #24 in rushing, but #76 in passing, and #50 overall. ND, by comparison, was #20 in passing and #83 in rushing (#45 total)

I've seen Crawford (WKU), Dailey (BC), Higgins (WF), Middleton (Kent St) also mentioned. I think the guys from the above list would be fantastic. Obviously Hartline would be the Grand Slam hire but I'd be absolutely floored if ND was able to swipe him. Wiggins is a curious one as I think that would be a big time hire but idk the reasoning for leaving Bama. Banks and Flood both left to follow Sarkisian and Valai is leaving Bama for Oklahoma this year so it could just be that it is hell to work for Saban but that is pure speculation. McClendon would be an interesting hire because he's worked in the SEC, at Oregon and is from Chicago. Could be a great fit and has done a ton while only being 38yo. Scheelhaase is an interesting one because he's been by far the best recruiter on Iowa State's staff in the last 4 cycles and Iowa State's passing game has been solid to very good over the past 4 years. Shephard is another one I really, really like a bunch and has been a good recruiter for Purdue (hasn't had the best cycle this year), but overall I think he'd be a good hire. Lonnie Galloway is a name I've seen mentioned but not sure if there's any connection but he'd be an older hire and has tons of experience and recruiting acumen. Will be super interesting to see who ND lands over these next few days/weeks!

Purdue was minus Bell and I believe their #2 receiver in their bowl game. the rest of the WR’s stepped up big time.

They were also like near dead last in rushing so some context lol. But yes they have a lot of guys that seem to reach or exceed potential

I hope the next DC isn't Tim Banks. The Volunteers' defense stunk this past season.

And he's a safety coach.

We unless it's a slam dunk choice we kind of need our next DC to be a LB coach. If it's someone really good, we can move someone else probably O'Leary to be LB coach.

I don't know what direction they might be going, looking at some Broyles award nominees I guess these guys might be options?

Blake Harrell - East Carolina DC and Inside LB; # 80 D overall, mostly coached lower level with some pretty strong results, is bald, has coached against Navy

Travis Williams - UCF DC and LB; # 53 D, Auburn guy that followed Malzahn, has recruiting coordinator experience in SEC, his Auburn dudes were nasty, spent one year at Northern Iowa, lost to Navy

Tony Gibson - NC State DC and LB; # 21 D, pretty strong track record as coach and recruiter but not necessarily remarkable across a long career, no real reason for him to be a candidate

Blake Seiler - Old Dominion DC and LB, # 69 D (nooge); young, spent vast majority of time in Bill Snyder orbit, strong to quite strong chin

Kurt Mattix - San Diego St DC and LB, # 12 D; Michigan experience as well as west coast and heartland, has a PE degree, voted most likely to join Coach Hoke at Golden Corral on a whim

It was his first year there and that program has been a musical chairs dumpster fire. Take a look at what he did at Illinois and Penn State with those units and with the DBs since he was at those jobs for more than a hot minute. He also coached LB in a previous life at Memphis and Maryland. As a defensive coordinator for the last 15 years, you have to have a hand in everything. He's been recently coaching safeties as a job title to go along with DC. He can jump in and coach LB without being Stevie Wonder.

He's 50 years old and would provide ND a recruiting presence in Michigan that they could probably use.

This is crazy to me. Is ND throwing a bunch of money at him? Does he feel he's hit the glass ceiling at Alabama because their OC's will be outside hires? Does he have an existing relationship with Freeman?

That's certainly crazy. IF TRUE, it makes me think a little less of Wiggins that this would happen during prep for the NCG.

This is Wiggin's third year at Alabama as the wr coach. After his second season, he was promoted to assistant head coach - offense on top of being the wr coach. Pretty sure Saban likes him.

Wiggin's official ND title will be "Alabama's advance scout". He's going to ND to check out Ohio State and Clemson, potential Crimson Tide opponents in next season's CFP.
