I can't imagine why they would want to practice at all, considering that's a chance of injury and they won't be playing in the bowl game. I never would have expected them to practice.

I wouldn't either but it was posted that they would be taking snaps and practicing by another poster. Didnt seem correct to me.

I havent seen that quote from MF so I'll take your word for it. My point was that these guys are in good standing with the team and its not like they said " fuck yall I'm out" and its all acrimonious and shit.

Yeah, MF was definitely clear those guys are in good standing. He made his comment last Sunday during the Fiesta Bowl PC linked below near the 11:45 mark:

If I was Kyren or Hamilton I would keep a low profile for a while. Guys were difference makers and were the difference today.
thanks Guys! I thought ND RKGs wouldn’t pull this shit.

Absence on the field missed on the sidelines no. If I were then I would have slid out as soon as we fell behind.

Tell that to Corral who suffered a serious leg injury and is now in danger of not being drafted. 2nd best qb to undrafted.

People can play this game all day. I think they should have played (especially Kyren), but respect their decisions. I don’t agree with it, but I think it’s understandable based on circumstances. I don’t dislike them and sincerely appreciate their amazing contributions to the university, however I feel that they should have finished (if healthy enough to play). They were captains and that is supposed to mean something as far as selflessness and leadership. Just my opinion and I am quite certain we’re discussing a win if one or both played yesterday. I’ll go on and be big fans of their careers in the NFL and wish them the best.

Understand the sentiment but I would be shocked if a qb dropped like that over a lower leg injury.

But Jaylon Smith... who still made $40M+

Jaylons rookie contract wa way less than it would have been and he managed to parlay one good year into a large veteran contract. What’s the italics for? He now can’t find a team.

According to who? They have not even said what the injury was yet. Only thing being reported so far is X-rays were negative. I doubt a QB goes undrafted even if it is serious ligament damage.

Welcome to this era of college football. Players have been sitting out for a few years now, I think it is going to happen more, especially with the NIL bullshit. College football is becoming a business like the NFL is.

What gets me is that these players say team first, play for my bro's., etc., and then they sit out.

They’re just catching up to the coaches, School Presidents, etc… in the hypocrisy that is amateur college football.

Good post. That's where my head is at too Andy.

Seems like the past few years things have changed from... "I play FOR <insert college name here> to "I play AT <insert college name here>".

Wish I had an answer or solution to all of this but in the end, I understand that many athletes are playing for themselves and a future paycheck.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

Dragging "culture" into this is kind of a reach. The players aren't dummies. They have known for a long time that KW and KH were likely sitting out, and they are probably happy for their boys. They also probably know they would do the same thing if the roles were reversed.

I agree with you to an extent, but still hold some hope that it could be different. Culture can influence perception. I'm not saying the players aren't happy for Kyren and Kyle. They should be happy for them. However, culture can inspire (not coerce) young people to WANT to give and sacrifice more for their respective team. It's harder nowadays when the league and money are valued as the pinnacle of success. That cat has been out of the bag for a while now. However, Notre Dame can build a culture that INSPIRES players to want to protect the purpose and privilege of playing in the ND uniform. This has to be inspired, not coerced or guilt tripped. Hope Freeman can inspire this with time.

Corral's draft stock will be hurt zero. If anything, it may go up.

Because most people won’t make anywhere close to $40 million in their lifetime. He still made an amazing amount of money to take care of his family in ways most people can’t. Let’s not act like his injury cost him everything.

It’s always been a business. Always. Now the players are getting their piece and people cant deal.

He was also an elite talent who Dallas took a risk to draft so high and also gave him time to rehab. No other draftee has been given so much to get back to where they were. That being said he didn’t last but what…. Five years a Dallas. He’ll be out of the league in a few years.

If these players are going to benefit from the world class athletic training, top football coaching, free meal-plan and housing, national exposure that is greater than many pro athletes, and a full academic scholarship to a top 20 college in the country (Which they likely wouldn't have gotten into) and the alumni base that comes with that... its reasonable to expect them to finish out the season. Some of these journalists act like they are damn hostages of the colleges.

IMO we've gone a few steps too far on the "pro-player" movement. The line has to be drawn somewhere. This is a team sport at the end of the day.
