While Ok St isn’t good in the pass game overall, they do have an ability to hit a big pass, and in a low scoring game, that could make the difference. Hart vs Bracy possibly meaning even 1 40 yard pass could be a difference maker.

Also, check out our talent advantage:

There is no excuse for us losing to the Cowboys.

Where does this statistical 'star' sheet balance with ND vs Cincy?

We shouldn't have lost to Cincy either, but they're nearly identical to us in OFEI and DFEI this year. We ended the season +9 in TO differential, but were -2 in that game. Some bad luck along with a weak OL and mismanagement of our QBs gave them the win. But if we played Cinci again, we'd probably win 7 out of 10 times.

OSU's talent level is similar, but they're not nearly as balanced as the Bearcats. Better defense, much worse offense. Should be a low-scoring game, but as long as we take care of the ball, the Cowboys should struggle to keep up with us offensively.

I agree... I didn’t want to insinuate I was looking for an argument from you on the ‘star’ comparison. I have a feeling though Bama is going to ‘boat-race’ Cincy. Honestly, 40ish to 20ish. Same scores Bama put up against the Irish the last two times they have played. And it doesn’t have to do with the ‘stars’… I just think with three weeks of prep, Bama/Saban has a hell of an upper-hand.
And yes – I too believe if the Irish played Cincy today – the game would be much different. (Given everyone was healthy and the ones sitting out was playing)

I feel like this is our ceiling. Not sure what else ND can do that is gonna put 5+ 5 star people on our roster.

I have little doubt that Freeman is going to take our recruiting to the next level. We'll never out-recruit the Big Three, but we can close the gap enough to be competitive like Clemson has recently.

The real question is whether Rees can recruit and develop an elite QB.

It's the difference in playing 'College Degree' and playing 'Football'... but, with MF, I see a couple '5s' coming maybe next year or year after. We'll see. I do believe it will have a lot do with how next season plays out.

Agree - 92.0 average player rating on 247 should be what we are trying to hit every year with a Top 150 QB annually.

The Irish have one in TB.... ranked 11th nationally at QB. And with Angeli coming in.. Rees needs to put a plan together for these QBs.

The '23 class is looking like it could have like 10 top 150 players and numerous 5 stars. We don't know what the ceiling is with a head coach that prioritizes recruiting. We will know in the next few years though. My guess is it is top 5 annually which is a full tier better than Kelly did over any 2 year span.

I'm slightly more pessimistic in thinking that our 23 class will be like this. Here is to hoping.

Yeah I think an elite qb is definitely something to take us over the hump. Im just a bit pessimistic that MF can land these 5-star type kids in the NIL environment.

This is going to be a defensive game. Given the TO's that both teams like to create, this could very well come down to who turns the ball over the least. Their QB likes to run at times, but is very average in the passing game. If we keep him off balance or force him to pass on the run, we should win. We have the better QB regardless if it's JC or TB. Advantage Irish!

We don't actually know that tho. MF is a complete unknown outside of def play calling and that responsibility is being given to Elston for this game.

'There is no replacement for displacement'... MF doesn't strike me as a person/coach to take their foot off the 'gas pedal'. I truly expect to see ND take it to the next level with MF.

Call it a hunch......

I agree that I THINK he'll be successful. My point is simply that until we have data points, he's literally an unknown as a HC.

I get that... But I don't think this is the last stop for a young coach at ND like MF. And IF he wants to prove himself and find himself as the HC at O$U (Maybe or NFL), he will have to score and score big.... if the Irish have one - 1 more TD per game they could have scored this year when they had the chance or not played (nicely to not run up the score).... they MAY be in the CFP. Re-watching the game against Cincy, the Irish - at times - played very.. very conservatively. MF doesn't strike me as that with his words, demeanor, and where he came from.
