I'm all in on Bryan McClendon for WR Coach.

Georgia kid with 9 years at UGA, 4 years at SCar and the last two at Oregon. He's the interim at Oregon and Lanning isn't giving him the OC job. They were never together at UGa and Lanning's part of the Todd Graham tree so he's after FSU's Kenny Dillingham who I'm sure will be glad to get back to the PAC-12.

McClendon was a short timer with the Bears around the same time as Freeman. His Dad Willie was a Bears RB for a handful of years behind Walter Payton & Roland Harper.

So I put it down somewhere else here:

McClendon for WR Coach / Pass game coordinator

Keenan Bailey for ST Coach / Recruiting Coordinator

I would love that.

I would love stealing Taylor Stubblefield even more.

I just don't get the same vibe from MF[SUP]2 [/SUP]like I did with those others. Kelly proved you can win, but he didn't recruit much and with MF[SUP]2 [/SUP]in place that should be the difference in getting a Natty if everything else stays status quo.

I hope I'm wrong (as a subway alum who gives to Notre Dame athletic fund) but I'm afraid this guy will be in over his head and then the next coach and so on-this is not a job for a position coach to break into head coaching and there will be consequences before they decide what direction to take. I am on board with the schools stance on integrity of college life experience but it will now take 2-3 head coaching changes to catch lightening in a bottle and find another Kelly. The school has proven they can survive mediocrity for about 10 yrs then they grow tired of being irrelevant and make the necessary changes. I've seen this before. We just witnessed a best case scenario for Notre Dame football (under Kelly) and they should have seen this coming and did something about it-the guy did a tremendous job with what he had to work with. You can criticize this comment all you want but the old guard on this board has seen this before.

Good grief. Dabo, Ryan Day, and Kirby Smart are first time head coaches. Jimbo Fisher at FSU was a first time head coach. ND is not some special place that prevents first time HCs from succeeding. If first time HCs failed everywhere else, it would be a different matter.

As for Kelly, let's not go nuts. This was not "lightning in a bottle." We beat that the teams we should have beaten in 2018 and 2020. Every other year we had at least one inexplicable loss to a mediocre team and often multiple such losses. He was certainly an improvement over "awful," but given our resources and schedule (we have more talent than 9-10 of the teams that we play every year), 10-2 should be the floor every year.

Isn't he an OC? Sounds like speculation just because he was considered pre Quinn

It makes sense in that Chip Kelly’s seat is pretty warm so he may either be reshuffling his staff (moving the OC duties) or Frye may just feel that ND is a more stable situation.

I am also pretty ok with Watts if it combined with Barry Beestand close by in an analyst roll that has been floated a little bit

No thanks to Hiestand. I feel like this is fan fiction being spoken into exisistance.

There are others out there

I am pretty willing to ride with give Reesus what he wants and see what happens. I got a quiet confidence in TR. If he wants Harry back I am all in. He got many of the OL recruits he wanted until his last cycle when he already knew his future at ND had been sabotaged. Also coming in being known as not the most vigorous recruiter, TR can scheme around that like how it was mostly TR who landed Schrauth this cycle.

This sounds feasible, especially concerning Tommy. It may not be feasible for the head coach though. If he's preaching "recruit, recruit, recruit" to all of his assistants, it may not go over well with the staff if his first assistant hire is a guy that isn't going to bust his ass recruiting.

Personally, a part of me would like for HH to come back as OL coach. I can also get behind another OL coach who may be more likable for today's 18 year olds, as well as somebody willing to do the nitty gritty in recruiting. I'm not sure what the right call or direction is for MF. It seems like getting HH on staff, at least as an analyst, makes some level of sense.

This is all, of course, assuming HH is able and willing to come to ND.

I agree with all of this. That early suggestion of Chris Watt back as the cool young bust ass recruiter as OL coach with harry as a hands on analyst helping make sure Watt is getting the X and Os right is my choice number 1. Fry as OL coach would be my next best choice. OL at notre dame somewhat recruits itself so this is maybe the one position I am most willing to eat a lessor recruiter to get the best actual position coaching.

Well this is interesting.....

He also retweeted the Jaylen Sneed signing day video.

He hasn't coached before, so it seems like it would be a little risky to hire him as LB coach, so maybe he is on the Hartline path of being a GA first to see how he does.

Edit: looks like I should have refreshed the page lol. Beat to the punch by a few minutes.
