I just don't get the same vibe from MF[SUP]2 [/SUP]like I did with those others. Kelly proved you can win, but he didn't recruit much and with MF[SUP]2 [/SUP]in place that should be the difference in getting a Natty if everything else stays status quo.

Why hasn't Quinn leaving been announced? They're both likely for the same reason: we can't replace them right now before ESD or the bowl game or whatever reason they have, so instead of having an empty coaching position they are keeping the person on for now. The only coaching positions that are "open" are Special Teams, DC, and Linebackers, and each of those are only open because the previous occupant left or was promoted.

What is the deal with this guy? I have seen his name come up a few times..... I used the Google machine to read up a bit, but why is the board getting all excited about him?

ND alum working under maybe the best WR coach in the country at one of the best programs in the country and is already making an impact in recruiting even though he is only an analyst.

He certainly has some reason to be at least considered. I don’t know if I agree with being like a home run, top choice though. I’m sure some of the kids like Bailey but Hartline is clearly the one driving it and we have no idea about Bailey’s actual coaching ability which is kinda important once a kid gets here lol.

Ohio State quality control coach who prior to that was an intern.
  • Viewed as a rising star among Ohio State staff and outside of their offices as well.
  • He's in line for an assistant coaching job, be it there or somewhere else, soon enough.
  • Is assisting with Ohio State’s quarterbacks but had previously worked with Hartline with WR.
  • He spent two years as a recruiting analyst at Notre Dame.
  • Coach Winner at the Jaguars was the one who brought him to Columbus.

I'd be happy with Bailey for the same reasons I was happy with Freeman's hire. We need high-upside guys with the energy to recruit in order to take the next step. 30-year coaching veteran with a proven track record has some advantages, and we certainly need a few of those guys on the staff for stability, but the ones who are going to take us over the top are like Freeman.

The only issue is Bailey did not play football and has never coached himself. His first coaching job ever we’re expecting him to put us in the WR arms race? That is a much bigger leap than Freeman is making. I just don’t think we should be viewing a guy with next to no experience the way his name gets floated. His name will have little cache detached from Hartline

It's definitely risky. Though I'd trust Freeman and Hartline to know whether or not he's got "it".

Timeline wise, and I know nothing about him really, I’d say another ND name may have a bit more under his belt: Trey Holtz. He’s had the mid-level type job (currently at LA Tech) in between OSU assistant and possibly here already.

All this being said, he was an analyst at ND and is currently QC at Ohio State working with QBs. He's been detached from Hartline since his promotion about a year ago. It isn't glamourous work, either. He's probably getting about $70K to do what he does, which is a lot. You want to rise up the ranks and learn the game fast? Be a QC coach. At any level.

I'll say this, if somebody else gets him and he winds up being as good as anyone who has ever been around him says he is, there shouldn't be any whining about it on our end if he wasn't experienced enough because he's never played football.

Hartline would be an absolute whale of a hire for anyone right now. Getting Bailey would actually be a great get for this staff too. This guy knows how the Ohio State QB and WR are coached. That's a sauce recipe I want if I can get my hands on it.

For WR, if I am looking at young up and comers who are going to recruit like no tomorrow but have the X and O knowledge, here is my short list of names:

Keary Colbert (as of now, I don't think Lincoln Riley is keeping him at SC)

Keenan Bailey, Ohio State

Brian Hartline, Ohio State. The unicorn

Trey Holtz (not being retained at La Tech as far as I can tell)

Brennan Marion, Pitt. Top choice. Future OC and HC very likely.

Nathan Scheelhaase, Iowa State

Scheelchase is an interesting one. Isnt Iowa States leading receiver in the portal?

I am hoping whoever we snag has some cats that follow thats for sure.

Never said not playing football meant he couldn’t coach. I only said that + him not coaching a position group on his own yet makes me not view him as an auto home run hire. He surely could be a fantastic coach. I don’t think saying I don’t know for sure if he’s a home run hire, first choice candidate is that much of a slight haha. Corey Raymond to Florida was a sure fire home run hire. This COULD be. It’s just not my initial assumption.

I know what you said and never said. I got curious and put a list of names together. That's his bar.

Find me a home run hire and I'll find you the hire that couldn't get to second base with a head start.
