Scheelchase is an interesting one. Isnt Iowa States leading receiver in the portal?

I am hoping whoever we snag has some cats that follow thats for sure.

Not paying attention to the Transfer Portal. It scares me and I'm afraid the changes to college football will urge me to commit violent crimes. I saw an NFL player taunt on TV and sold heroin for two weeks.

I don't anticipate ND using the transfer portal. I guess we'll know soon enough if Freeman got that concession from Uncle Jack and Padre Jenkins. I'm not holding my breath.

Scheelhaase also coaches RB and was named run game coordinator this past season. I think he's going places and has a good reputation as a young, up and coming coach. Four time All Academic Big Ten at Illinois and has some credibility as a guy who played QB there.

They are definitely hitting the portal this year per Loy.

Byagi would be a good special teams coordinator hire but if you want to go younger, someone with maybe more upside as a recruiter, ND should look at Doug Shearer at Miami (OH).

Driskell opined that MFMF should consider moving Taylor to WR's and making a run at Alford as RB coach. Can't say that's actually a bad idea.

Interesting. That was posted here yesterday. When did Driskell say that?

Theoretically, I really love the move Lance Taylor to receiver and then over pay and over promise to bring Alford home. That is how you bolster two positions and up your recruiting game

I wonder how Del is feeling today? I mean what a complete and utter failure by him. No hiding this. I’m sure it’s going to be an uncomfortable convo w MFMF now that the ink is dry on the Letters of Intent.

Overall I assume Freeman and Rees are considering any number of options with who is available. I considered the Taylor to WRs coach as well. You could consider Taylor covers both and you bring in a QB coach. Just whatever alignment allows you to hire the best new staff member. The most likely of course is just hiring a WRs coach but certainty worth keeping an open mind on.

Why not just hire Alford as WR coach? Didn't he coach slot WRs for Kelly ages ago?

Yeah Taylor was Panthers Assistant WR > Stanford RBs > Panthers WR > ND

Is Alford a real possibility? I mean he is a no-brainer if he is considering a move.

Alford may not be realistic. But I think the thought behind Taylor coaching WR's opens up MFMF's possibilities even more. He could hire a WR he likes a lot, but maybe if one isn't available, he could hire a RB coach he likes.

Taylor recruiting WRs would be interesting applying his RB results. He in general has not landed the big big fish. What he has done though is recruit nationally well and seems to have a good eye towards “mid-level” prospects likely being underrated and then developing them. Also keeping Plan B warm he has done well.

I'm all in on Bryan McClendon for WR Coach.

Georgia kid with 9 years at UGA, 4 years at SCar and the last two at Oregon. He's the interim at Oregon and Lanning isn't giving him the OC job. They were never together at UGa and Lanning's part of the Todd Graham tree so he's after FSU's Kenny Dillingham who I'm sure will be glad to get back to the PAC-12.

McClendon was a short timer with the Bears around the same time as Freeman. His Dad Willie was a Bears RB for a handful of years behind Walter Payton & Roland Harper.

So I put it down somewhere else here:

McClendon for WR Coach / Pass game coordinator

Keenan Bailey for ST Coach / Recruiting Coordinator

Can't argue with his results that's for sure.

He has wanted his alma mater job at CSU and got passed over for it. Again. I don't know if he has desires to be a coordinator but it would seem that in order to get any head coaching gig, that might be his next path. Or he has to HC at the FCS level.

He coached WR at ND in 2010 and 2011. He's otherwise been an RB coach and AHC.

The WR Coach hire is where they need to go big. Boss ass recruiting Gangster that can coach people. The position is way too important now if you're chasing a Championship.

Lezynski is currently coaching LBs and STs. If ND is going for an unproven guy at STs I would imagine he's first in line. Maybe he will be the successor at LBs instead but I'm not sure how that works unless Elston is elevated to DC.

Got to get him and his ND alum wife back on campus. After 6 years at OSU with Meyer, Day and Hartline... he knows the recipe for the secret sauce.

His exposure in recruiting social media is 5*. Dude has a brand... and the number to Tate's batphone.

Think McNulty could coach WRs? There's rumblings that Bernie Parmalee is going to get ousted from Urban's staff. He kicked off the "TE U" for ND under Weis.
