Imagine having to try and explain to a potential coordinator why they should come work for you, after you were only able to bring one previous coordinator with you. I mean Elston and Tommy are Kelly’s guys. Elston has been with him for years and Tommy probably wouldn’t have had as fast of an ascent if it weren’t for him. Both of these guys chose not to follow him. They chose to work for a FIRST TIME head coach over him. A guy they both have only known for around a year.

It’s a bad look, and no matter what the reasons are it probably is hard to overlook for potential future employees. Kelly is in a tough spot, but I guess that’s why he’s paid so much.

No doubt, particularly after the stories that have surfaced about Kellys last few days at ND and how he made his exit…i cant imagine sitting there thinking “now THATS the guy I want to be my next boss”

It could also say A LOT about Notre Dame, and how it's not about coaching for Kelly. It's about coaching for Notre Dame.

No doubt that was a huge part of it. I think it has to do with a little of both, but that isn’t what someone looking for their next job is going to think. It is pretty unprecedented what has happened at ND this cycle of coaching changes. It’s not typical for a coach to not retain at least a few assistants. I would assume it’s even more unlikely when you consider the context of Kelly’s relationship with the aforementioned coordinators.

Limited veteran QB w/ promising FR and SO QBs. Exactly the QB competition BK always wants lol

In retrospect, it's amazing just how long BK's been able to ride the success of Tony Pike and Zach Collaros to 'QB Developer' status.

BK has always been able to scratch together adequate QB play, which should be commended! Especially when so much about getting elite QB play is simply about luck. And LSU would have killed to have BK's acumen at plug-and-play-without-dropoff prior to Joe Burrow's season...

But the idea that he's a QB whisperer/developer, or that his system is QB-friendly, is way off at this point.

I have to look at it like... hey this dude took low rated 3 star qbs and turned them into the winning most efficient college qb in the history of ND

Maybe Brennan figured out that BK always goes with the lower rated quarterback and is assuming that Walker Howard will transfer to BC or something.

I think BK showed him how all the QB transfers from ND played out at ND and AFTER. Not sure that means BK developed anyone but he likely maximized the talents of who we had compared to how others did with same player.

I am just glad we don't have to hear BK say the words "Relative to" anymore

Or "grit." Although, Burnt Ends brian may, amazingly, actually start saying "grit" even more than he has the past 5 years...since he eats them for breakfast, e'ryday.

Well... again... I would say our expectations about winning at a very high level are relative to the grit we see every day when these guys show the traits we see.

Again... I would say relative to the traits...

Getting Denbrock back as the OC.

Watching the old gang take on the SEC is going to be awesome this year. Popcorn viewing.

Its like getting all those 2015 hypotheticals answered.

Was talking to my cousin (LSU fan).. we were talking (almost) about this. His friends/fans are thinking the same style is going to be played out at LSU now that BK is there.

We are all eagerly waiting to see how this plays out but it feels like Kelly was trying to play competitive chess but stepped in a pile of shit, slipped, grabbed the table to try and keep himself from falling and in-so-doing, launched the pieces everywhere while pissing himself.

I really can not wait until the start of next season. Gonna be a long 9 months.

I don't have it in for BK at all in fact I still like him, but that response from the players to his first speech to them appeared very cold.
If he somehow gets them on board and playing for him he is indeed worthy.

This is peak BK to assume that he legitimately could pry the OC from Georgia to come work for him at LSU. The audacity of it all is palpable.

Have been here in a few years. Came back to check the mood.

Yeah Georgia to LSU is virtually a lateral move. And an offensive coordinator is going to have more autonomy under a defensive HC like Smart than Kelly who is heavy handedly involved in the offense . Not sure what BK was expecting unless money is no object and he thought he could just buy this guy.

Reading that article, I have never heard of the guy, which means little I know, but watching Georgias offense against good teams its not very... Exciting.

He’s starting a walk-on QB. Right up BK’s alley
