Where does Tommy fit into all of this and was Kelly in the background giving thumbs up and thumbs down to all of the WR targets brought to the table?

Del, shouting down the hallway: "Hey, Tommy! What do you think about shutting down WR recruiting now that we've got verbals from Merriweather, Walker and Williams?"

I understand the sentiment and I don't disagree with any of it. But it is reassuring to know we should have at minimum 2 very good TEs and 3-4 very good RBs with at least one fo them capable of being flexed out. We can mask the depth issue a bit until we get this corrected. We need Rees and Freeman to do their best recruiting pitch to keep Lenzy/Austin/Davis in the fold for next year. Along with our 3 young WRs and potentially 2-3 more with 22 and portal, we shoudl still be able to field a very competitive unit.

I get the consternation but this is not the OL. You don't need 3+ years to be prepared for a starting spot. Young WRs with enough athletic potential can play their way onto the field.

I made a similar comment in previously. I truly believe that Price, Raridon, and Merriweather have elite collegiate football players. But, If the goal is legitimately to win a NC, we're not going to do it "masking" issues. We need to have more complete classes.

Rees has had 2 years as OC, to elevate the QB and WR rooms under his watch to build a more complete offense. He's really yet to do that and that will remain the same, after this class. Which is disappointing.

We went into this cycle knowing we needed to improve the QB room and WR room to get over the top. Tobias is an exceptional player. But solely him and then Angeli at QB does not do that.

I hold Rees accountable for QB recruiting, but I really don't know how much to hold him accountable for other positions. I'd love a deep dive on who besides Kelly/Del was responsible for the WR board and WR recruiting, and who was allowed to make the final calls on ND targets. For example, would Kelly tell Del he was only allowed three guys and not to take any more in this class. Or was that Del's decision, or someone else's?

If we only sign 1 WR this class. Over the last 4 classes (2019-2022), we'll have signed 4 WR's that are still on the roster, at WR.

It's truly inconceivable to me that Del and those who are overseeing Del in Tommy/BK, etc. could let this happen. It didnt all happen at once. They've had plenty of time to address this.

It didn't get bad until the transfers this year. They should have taken a couple of 3 star guys to go with the big 3 though.

From what I understand, Del is the one that wanted to only take 3. That's his preferred number.

That's what I've heard as well. That's when Rees said that he doesn't care what he wanted to take because we're taking what we need to make sure we can at least have a two-deep at WR in 2023.

The OL situation was on Quinn and to some extent Harry for some poor recruiting on his way out. The WR situation was on Del. Gotta remember that Tommy has only had his finger on the OC job a little under 2 years, and one of those seasons was a messed up COVID season with no Spring ball to work with the guys and they still managed to make the playoffs. When you look at his impact you look at this first freshmen class they brought in and how good they've been out of the gate. I don't think we've ever seen a freshmen class make their mark this early. The future is bright on offense in '22 and '23 I think, although the schedule looks to be brutal next year.

merriweather has signed with ND and that is huge with walker to um and williams most likely to usc. no ND needs to get back on the recruiting trail for at least one more wr.

In the drama of our WRs, let's not forget that Tobias is probably the best of the bunch and he is coming here. Let's go.

Walker is a project and Williams is good but operates on the same part of the field as a flexed out TE. Merriweather was by far the most important of the three to the '22 class and the only one I was really worried about losing (after the BK visit nonsense).

I love how he demolished the DB within the 5 yard line and was completely cool listening to the ref tell him why it would probably get called OPI... even though fuck that. hahahahaha

He looks awesome. He's not a burner but I'm no longer wondering if he has enough speed. Quick feet too. Too soon - Davante Adams?

I’ll say this he’s going to be hard to keep off the field as a freshman. I’m glad we ended up keeping the best WR out of the 3, Tobias may end up being one of the best in this class.
