I actually feel bad for Fickell. By all accounts, he really wants the ND job and I think 11 months ago it would have been his. Freeman made the most of his opportunity this year and is the proverbial "right guy in the right place at the right time". I still think Fickell will be a fantastic coach. But Freeman already has his roots in ND's program and ND simply can't wait around.

Don't feel bad. After Ryan Day gets a job he's totally unqualified for, Fickell will go home.

I hear ya. I like Fickell and would be excited for him to come to ND.
I actually feel kind of bad for Clark Lea too. Imagine if he stayed on another year and everything played out the way it did. He could be on the verge of ND job. Instead, he's stuck with Vandy. You know he's gotta be second guessing himself.

Yea....if he were smart, he would take the DC role at LSU LOL.

Woah - Tim doesn't clickbait - at all. I think he wants to share something, but can't and this is loophole

Wouldn’t be shocked if this played last year if Lea was still at Vandy. It’s a tall task but one he wants plus if timing was more natural would have given easier avenue to pursuing Fickell

I understand the politics that Jack is faced with in hiring the Kelly replacement at ND. But, you have a very charismatic, very energetic person in Freeman who’s already on staff. It’s clear the players want him, the recruits want him, I want him, and I’d say most want him. What does Jack have to lose at this point? Give him a contract that gives him the same reach as any other coach within the programs limits, coupled with incentives for performance. If he fails, he fails and it wasn’t a bad decision on Jacks part because he gave the most popular a shot, Marcus has to learn somewhere.
