Well if anything, Swarbrick reiterated that ND is not willing to go to places that others are seemingly going to in regards to college football.

I'm getting the impression that Jack went to bed on time last time and slept like a baby. I guess we're the suckers for caring about this program more than those entrusted with running it.

I hope Jenkins cans his ass right after this. What an absolute joke. And to think he gets paid millions to do this.....

Jack is a complete moron. And he is setting the program back 12 years to when Kelly took the reigns.

The irony on me is not lost in regards to the story of the titanic. Yah we all saw the iceberg but it was kind of late at night so we had better things to do, like throttle up the ship.

"I knew it was coming, also I did nothing whatsoever to prepare for it."

Time for the alums to storm the Bastille. This was an absolute clown show and anyone who watched that press conference is laughing at ND right now. He'd have been better off saying nothing than doing that.

I think anyone thinking Jack was going to come on here within 12 hours of the news breaking and have answers is clueless. I would imagine that we are in negotiations with the assistants on staying/leaving, not to mention they arent even on site.

I for one am happy we didnt rush to name Freeman the HC. He may end up getting the gig and great for him and ND if thats the case but we dont know who those are that reached out to him.

Let's give Savvy Jack more than 12 hours to actually be, you know, savvy.

Glad I'm not the only one. The emotional takes in here are something else.

Man I stuck up for Kelly in the past, but if I heard that right he didn't even give Jack a chance to counter. Just straight up resigned. What a fuck.

it wasnt about staying at ND. why does Jack need a chance to counter?

My biggest concern with this presser is that I don't think there's a plan...like at all. And I don't just mean Freeman being HCIW or not. I mean I don't think Jack has any idea which of the staff will even be coming back to South Bend. This. Is. Not. Good. I think we might be starting a lot further down the ladder than we initially thought...

In Jack's 14 years on the job, there has always been a plan. I like the fact that he isnt rattled and making knee jerk reactions.

As for the coaching search, this is Notre Dame. Like it or hate it, this is how this school operates. You cant take the good and leave the bad. This isnt "bag man U". They are going to be deliberate and take their time and not over-react to a couple of tweets by recruits. At the end of the day, the adults need to be in charge. I like this.

This press conference is giving me a good indication of why Kelly thought he couldn't take the next step here.

Based on what I just heard, I can't say I blame him. Smart move by BK.

there was nothing savvy about that press conference. If he wanted time, fine. Nobody forced him to just embarrass himself and ND.

But I don't buy that that is why someone would leave here. We were absolutely primed to have a championship level roster with consistent shots at the CFP. And our talent was only getting better.

Is it easier at LSU? Maybe, but god we were on the verge here.

"It's not Jack Swarbrick's culture; it's not Brian Kelly's culture; it is the culture of those young men (referring to the players)." You tell 'em Jack. Also said we have the best staff in America.

For now - give it a week.

That PC just did the opposite of what it was supposed to do, keep ND nation optimistic. Biggest winner from that was BK. Dude got mad money, and empathy from ND fans. LOL

so your best case scenario was him to show up and name Freeman the next HC?

I just dont know what people expected here. By all accounts literally everyone was blindsided. Sure Jack claims to have known BKs time was coming to an end but personally there needs to be some due dilligence in this search and that aint happening over night.

But dont allow me to stop your good time, carry on!

Naming Freeman as the interim would assume that he is committed to staying in the short term. Having your interim out interviewing for HC positions is even worse than not having an interim.

That press conference was a train wreck. Maybe Jack has a good plan, was just unprepared to answer these questions, and thus felt the need to come out and misdirect the media. But taking his comments at face value: (1) he saw this coming and did nothing to prepare for it; (2) he doesn't have a list of candidates, or even a list of "traits" yet; and (3) there is apparently no sense of urgency, to the extent that we may not even have a named interim in place for our NY6 Bowl/ Semi-Final game.

What exactly did that presser accomplish other than to crush the confidence of those who are paying attention and understand the need to move quickly here? We'd have been better off had he just refused to comment.

I'll wait until Jack actually makes a predictable and safe hire before I crucify him.

Did you really expect him to announce anything? No interim yet, because he hasn't spoken to all of the coaches. For all we know, he could be getting ready to finalize something with Freeman or Fickell.

Or....having the one guy on staff everyone knows has the "traits" to be a homerun leave the ballpark without even getting a chance to step into the batters box.

If he is actually on the verge of having answers then it was a mistake to hold a press conference this morning.

Not naming an interim coach implies they have a candidate (Rees or Freeman). There will be no search.
