lmao. Never could figure out why they kept him around a couple of years ago. Evidently he's a "great guy"

So if they fired him after one bad loss this year, why didn't they just fire him at the end of last year? Seems like a really short leash.

Just bad process and bad administration here. Completely pointless. And they are not going to replace him with Urban Meyer, either.

Franklin because he takes over for Del Rio in always getting mentioned, O’Brien because of his PSU history and he’ll be hot after Bama’s season and Fickell because of the AD is who I would guess are the big 3 names that will continuously be mentioned

Williams isn’t a coordinator, is their big name recruiter. They have little interest in the rest of the season and are just thinking about recruiting already

EDIT: He did have Associate tag, which I think enticed him with $ away from Oregon. Still.

Really looked like they quit against Stanford. If they didn't quit, they're poorly coached and motivated. It should have been done years ago but better now than later from a USC perspective, so I'm sure their fans are just happy he's gone, even if was handled poorly.

I would have been fine with Swarbrick firing him midplay if he was pacing the ND sidelines.

Odds on favorite has to be O'Brien right?

Fickell and Campbell aren't taking that job.

Big mistake firing Helton, imo. He deserved a lifetime contract.

That being said, PLEASE let them hire Campbell or Fleck

Great, they'll probably hire someone competent now...well, the last 11 years have been pretty decent since the Cheaty Petey dynasty ended.

I really don't see Petersen going there. He had the chance before and opted to stay in Washington (Or maybe he went to Washington instead, can't remember if he was still at Boise still at the time). The only reason I can see him possibly going now is the fact they're further away from sanctions than they were the last time USC tried...maybe that's what kept him away last time, but who knows?

Mario Cristobal has gotta have his agent on the phone now asking for a raise. “I beat OSU and USC is about to call my phone, show me the money Phil Knight”

I do think they’ll, if they are smart, follow the Oregon plan. Need a HC that will prioritize line play and let the skill positions recruit themselves

Gotta believe their short list is (in no particular order): Campbell, Cristobal & Fickell

I hope they hire Fickell. He wouldnt scare me at USC at all. No recruiting ties to the region.

As for Donte Williams... He can't go from Interim coach back to a regular position coach can he? Strange that they may have just guaranteed that their best recruiting coach will no longer be part of the program.

Based on what? They brought him back this season and fired him after two games. That screams cometent adminstration to you?

Horrible process if you ask me. If this thing went off the rails and he lost his team after a bad game at home against Stanford, how'd he even make it back this year in the first place? They have to buy him out now the same as they would have in December unless he's got some kind of clause in his contract. How the hell are they going to recruit the rest of this cycle? Plus they fall behind on the juniors now too.

As for Franklin and Cristobal, both of them are fine recruiting head coaches as far as I can tell, but I'm trying to find the big games they've won to this point. Prior to Saturday for Cristobal anyway. Jack Del Rio is 58 years old and has never coached in college. He's making $3.5M to be a defensive coordinator in the NFL. I can't see why he takes this job with all the recruiting and bullshit he's going to have to deal with pushing 60. Matt Campbell has had his ass handed to him every time he's played Kirk Ferentz. If you cashed in your chips now on him, you'd probably owe the house money.

It's the same list of names for every other upper tier Power Five job that's going to open up. Helton was making almost $5M and was the highest paid coach in the conference. SC isn't a destination job anymore is it?

Brady Quinn tweeted that two names that are very interested in the job are Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart, but neither have been mentioned (for obvious reasons).
Can't imagine USC would even consider a HC with no prior experience, so it makes sense neither has been mentioned. I also doubt USC would consider bringing back Reggie Bush in any coaching capacity, but I'm not surprised they're both interested.

He works with them on Fox. I'm sure this was tongue in cheek.
